  1. Just validated quite a few, if I've missed anyone I'm sure you will let me know please. I'm out most of today but will check again when I get home.

  3. Whilst this topic is extremely helpful and instructive there are a couple of quite sarcastic and uncalled for replies which I don't really think are helpful to anyone. I feel the person who wrote them should apologise, if not then they could probably be removed from the subject.

  5. Hi, have just validated all outstanding new members. The e mail notification still doesn't appear to be working, Jon is trying very hard to solve this. Much as I'd like to be at the PC all day it's impossible, so please accept my apologies and all new members welcome If I have missed any please let me know.

  7. We go on a cottage holiday in the Yorkshire Moors to get away from the infernal fireworks each November and often have basic supplies delivered, finding them very useful for the first day on our arrival. They don't seem much more expensive and to us worth it.
  8. Behave yourself. Will check now.
  9. Jon is trying very hard to get this sorted, meanwhile I have just validated several A/C your's amongst them. So a warm welcome.

Have you tried Ikea? There is bound to be a store near you, if not you can at least browse and if you do fine anything suitable I think you can order online, not too sure about that though. http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_GB/ikny_splash.html

  12. We both have one of those poncho's and find they are big enough to wear and drape over the hatch opening, helps keep things dry including us, and we paid a lot less than the price quoted on that website. In my youth they were called cycling capes.

    Lynndale

Looks a decent boat, but beware if they recommend a surveyor. If you want an explanation PM me and I will explain.
  14. After having boats for well over 20 years, all with gas appliances and no problems, although one time we did come home to a smell of gas, we turned off all appliances opened the doors and windows to get rid of the smell and we found it was a loose connection to the gas bottles, rectified this and all was well. If there is a gas leak then surely as we did you can smell it. The only time I have heard of an explosion was actually when an idiot decided to change bottles with a cigarette in his mouth.
  15. Does this help? http://www.boatbuilders.org.uk/
  16. You could contact Mike Webb on 0161 629 8200. (manchester ship canal co) he won't be able to tell you of vacant moorings but will send you a list of where they all are with relevant names and telephone numbers.
  17. Don't feel bad I don't get any either.
  18. OK, The time the wind blew us into the side and I couldn't get the boat pole quick enough to help push us off so tried to use the ewbank instead, my OH was sure I'd cracked up.
  19. What do you want to know about, The time I closed the gates against an oncoming boat because I'd read 'always close the gates on leaving a lock' The time I couldn't get off the side in high winds, so moored up instead then watched a tiny cruiser do it easily? I didn't know you could use reverse to wind a boat so travelled miles to find a place the boat would turn full circle. I could go on but I'm sure you'd find most of it boring.
  20. Hello and a warm welcome I'm sure that you will be able to glean lots of advice from the people who live on board.
  21. I really don't think it could have been you Carrie, unless you had 2 big strapping lads as crew, one hiding thinking we didn't see him. I did actually ask if they would like me to walk back up the flight and open and close all gates for them.. Yes we all had to learn of course and I remember my learning curve very well, but we won't go into that.

    Dog days

Where there are people you will always have idiots.
  23. When approaching a lock, bring your boat into the side but if the lock is in use by another boat coming in your direction, quickly jump back on then erratically steer your boat so that you block their exit by accident. Anything in fact so that you don't need to give a hand.
  24. I totally agree, still it happens as often as clockwork. The dog wardens would actually have to be out at around 6am and 12mn to catch a lot of them. We have the phantoms who walks his/her dogs at ungodly hours, we never see them but find the leavings frequently along the road where we live. My nosy neighbour even followed one home, had the evidence reported them to the authorities but were told there was nothing they could do since they hadn't witnessed it. So he posted it through the offending people's letterbox. To be tarred with the same brush as the irresponsible though does really irk me and to be made to feel guilty when my dogs even stop to have a sniff surely is not what dog ownership is about. Now if anyone would like a list of the places where you don't need to clean up I have that too.
