  1. I have 2 dogs, one absolutely hates the boat when cruising, he is a very sensitive BC and is very restless at the noise of the engine, in fact he walks up and down inside all the time. In his case it would be extremely dangerous to have him on the deck or anywhere else outside when on the move. Once we moor up he loves it and will jump on and off the boat to explore. My other lad just settles on the bed and is quite happy to cruise all day long. As for dogs on the roof or on the rear deck I am very much against I'm afraid (we have a trad style) since I have seen dogs fall into the canal and remember an occasion when one went under the boat and drowned. Another thing I am against is dogs hanging round locksides with their owners working the locks, again I have seen the results with dire consequences. Perhaps I am being a little overcautious but even the best trained dog can be unpredictable.
  2. You could try Miracle Brass Brite from http://www.miracleleisureproducts.co.uk/cl...g-products.html it does work with very little effort.

  9. Don't know but maybe something to do with the IP boards, another site I belong to uses the same system and since they upgraded same thing happens. I have to log in most days, but until I switch PC off can return with no problem.

    Winding

It is called winding. Having said that I usually just say to my O/H shall we turn her round. An indentation in the bank allows the bows of a narrowboat to be held whilst the prevailing wind blows the boat round. Hence the unusual pronunciation - ‘winding hole’.
  20. If they promise improvement and amenities it's a load of drivel. We have been promised dredging since 1998 and water points for at least 2 years, but nothing has materialised. We have to go down a lock to get water and then wind and ascend the same lock which is not an easy lock to begin with since that also has no maintenace except when another boater or we grease the gear. To shut us up I think, their own workboat did a depth test and they couldn't even get within a couple of metres of the moored boats due to lack of depth. Each year the bottom gets nearer to the top. When our request for the mooring fees arrives I will be writing once again a letter of complaint but nothing materialises. I know we could move, something which has been implied by BW in the past but trying to find another mooring is almost impossible.
  21. I put this one up for all to see since I do know a few who moor not far from Middlewich and we actually are at the junction, but thank you for the link.
  22. All over the country a 'Day of Action' is being held to try to help save our waterways. There is one in Middlewich on Nov 25th. I have scanned and copied the leaflet so you can all read and decide if you wish to attend. SAVE OUR WATERWAYS day of Action In order to pay a heavy fee imposed upon it for failing to pay the farmers their due, the government is taking away from British waterways funds for running the inland Waterways. Worse still, BW's grant in the year to come will shrink even further. Already 10% of BW's staff have been made redundant amid fears that the number of redundancies will increase. Spending on restoration and regeneration will have to be reduced as will spending on repairs and maintenance As the waterways decline there is the prospect that some of them will close hitting businesses and jobs. All waterway users - walkers, anglers boaters heritage enthusiasts, nature lovers and the public at large will be adversley affected Supporters of the waterways are protesting nationally against these unfair cuts and are intent on getting for British Waterways a fair and secure grant settlement MP's have been bombarded with letters and the weekend of November 25th/26th has been declared a national day of protest rallies will take place all over the country Your Help is Vital The canal junction in:-- MIDDLEWICH has been selected as the site for one of these rallies which will take place on Saturday November 25 If you have a boat, please bring it to the rally. If not, come in person with your family and friends to demonstrate your support for the waterways
