All over the country a 'Day of Action' is being held to try to help save our waterways.
There is one in Middlewich on Nov 25th.
I have scanned and copied the leaflet so you can all read and decide if you wish to attend.
SAVE OUR
WATERWAYS
day of Action
In order to pay a heavy fee imposed upon it for failing to pay the farmers their due, the
government is taking away from British waterways funds for running the inland
Waterways. Worse still, BW's grant in the year to come will shrink even further.
Already 10% of BW's staff have been made redundant amid fears that the number of
redundancies will increase.
Spending on restoration and regeneration will have to be reduced as will spending on
repairs and maintenance
As the waterways decline there is the prospect that some of them will close hitting
businesses and jobs.
All waterway users - walkers, anglers boaters heritage enthusiasts, nature lovers and the
public at large will be adversley affected
Supporters of the waterways are protesting nationally against these unfair cuts and are
intent on getting for British Waterways a fair and secure grant settlement
MP's have been bombarded with letters and the weekend of November 25th/26th has been
declared a national day of protest rallies will take place all over the country
Your Help is Vital
The canal junction in:--
MIDDLEWICH has been selected as the site for one of these rallies which will take place on
Saturday November 25
If you have a boat, please bring it to the rally. If not, come in person with your family and
friends to demonstrate your support for the waterways
