  1. I have an Event Calendar on the RCTA web site. It only carries events where trading is allowed, so you wouldn't, for example, find Audlem Festival of Transport on there: http://www.canaltraders.org.uk/webcal.html Mike
  2. Matthew B winding Hare and then heading into the boatyard - you only get one shot at that...

  3. Almost the last call for traders at the Birmingham Floating Market, Sept 27, 28 & 29. I currently have 18 booked in and have space for a few more. I you're interested please email me for further details: michael@canaltraders.org.uk http://www.canaltraders.org.uk/bhamfloatingmarket.html Mike RCTA Admin
  4. Am considering a 2 mile walk each way to Willington, haven't got past the considering stage yet...

  5. The only problem with our temporary home here at Alvecote Marina - well, the layby to be exact - is that we are only app 50 yards from the Samuel Barlow and currently down wind of it - and Paul keeps cooking steaks!!!

  6. Bit of an echo Phil lol. Not sure you can get a paper one now, unless the examiner can print it out for you. Mike
  7. The first thing I find wrong with the idea us it's on the roof, the second thing is it's on the roof in a horrible big box, the third thing is it's on the roof.... The only things that should be on the roof, in my opinion, are poles, planks and ropes. Ok, we do have some solar panels up there, but they were originally pole-mounted at our (then) mooring, but when we had to leave they had either to be sold or put on the roof, Krystyna persuaded me to keep them. Mike
  8. As the ventilation requirements are advisory only, how on earth could changing them invalidate an existing BSC? Stuff and nonsense! Mike
  9. In the DAF we had in our Luxemotor - same engine by the sound of it, straight 6 ? - I used to use Morris's 10/40. I still use their oil now in the Lister, but straight 30. Mike
  10. If you overload the inverter at the very least you will blow a fuse or trip, at worst the inverter itself, so then you will have to drag it out anyway. Check first, somewhere on it (label or model no) it will have a rating, most likely in VA, multiply this figure by 0.7 to get a good margin of safety in Watts. Mike
  11. The meetings were advertised in many places, not just on here. Edited to apologise fir the wrong bit quoted... Mike
  12. To re-assure those who asked, the Birmingham Floating Market will be going ahead, it is now very much an entity on its own. As for the Friday night social, we think this will still happen as planned by Cotswoldman, I am sure he will keep us advised. Just as an adjunct to this, there may well also be a floating Christmas Market and there will be a summer one too, both at the Birmingham Waterfront. All this the result of an idea originated by Cotswoldman. Mike RCTA Admin
  13. I fitted a very similar range in our (then) Luxemotor, 5 burners, grill and double oven. Supplied from one 27kg bottle with a standard single regulator via 10mm pipework. Never had a problem, rain or shine, sun or snow/ice/freezing conditions and we lived aboard 24/7. Mime
  14. Beware Galvanic Isolators, they are not always doing what you presume they should be. The action of a GI can be completely negated and even reversed (such that it starts to cause corrosion) by simply plugging in a Switched Mode device into the supply. Do I have one if those I hear you ask, most probably you have several, laptop charger, mobile charger, etc., etc. Mike
  15. On a previous boat we had real spider problems (they lived in the 0.75m space under the floor). I put a couple of bowls of fresh conkers out and they all moved, into the bowls of conkers....... I kid you not Mike
  16. I'm with him, Galaxy S4 now (mines an S3). Krystyna has an iPhone 4S, bloomin disaster, will change it as soon as we can, and her iPad! Mike - Android rules
  17. Thanks for the clarification Tim, yes I was really meaning towing hook. Incidentally, Success, a Bantock Butty, never had a tunnel hook and being a butty she was designed for long distance work, as opposed to the day boats. Mike
  18. 12v Nikon battery charger, does of course depend on the battery model, but search on eBay, £12 to £15 Mike
  19. Yes it is, but although one of the oldest boats currently working the system, there are one or two even older Mike
  20. As an aside, that new fuel tank cap, with it's holes drilled for a breather, will NOT pass the next BSS Mike
  21. Getting back on topic lol. We always tow Success on a pair of short straps, with Success pretty much tight on to Draco's fenders. Btw, aren't tunnel hooks generally only found on GU motors? Mike
  22. I'm with Tim, in 53 years of boating and of-the-order-of 14 or so boats we have only ever had one survey and that was for Success, but then she is 120 years old.... Mike
  23. What is even worse is cruising with fenders down..... Mike
  24. The simple answer is yes Mike
