  1. Hi folks its been a while and a new career!!! Anyway after neglecting my 'newbuild boat' I am keen to get on with finishing it and moving on so I require the services of a decent carpenter to repair a few small problems in the boat and do some work. I'm fitting real wood to the interior walls instead of the existing Ash faced ply, ceiling T&G requires a little tidying up, water tank boxed off etc - I estimate maybe a weeks work and I'm now based 10 miles north of Newark if anyone can suggest someone local who would be interested?? Obviously cash is available thanks Michael
  2. Hi, been a while :-) I'm looking for some decent hardwood Oak/Ash/Maple etc hardwood T&G for the interior of my boat - its harder than I ever imagined to source so does anyone have any contacts? Thanks
  3. Hi I cant seem to find the relevant Beacon Boats thread and I searched under tha tas well?
  4. Hi, thanks for all the replies which I've found really helpful! Summarising - the Galley should be OK using one outlet skin fitting for a Belfast sink and washing machine plumbed together. I already have a whale Gulps 220 pump for this which I'm going to install. The Bathroom should ideally have two fittings, one for the bath and one for the hand basin - the hand basin should be fine gravity fed - but the bath will use another Whale Gulpa 220 which I've already got. The expansion tank for the hot water system is fine to vent into a separate skin fitting higher up on the side of the boat. Bilge pump is single skin fitting. All the skin fittings should be at least 10 inches above the waterline and it isn't required to have non-return valves. Have I missed anything? Many thanks Michael
  5. Hi, sorry for the delay I've only just checked this! My problem was because the T&G had ben fitted tight against the sides of the boat, had got slightly damp and expanded over the Winter. I took it all down, sanded all the glue off which took ages by hand, and refitted it all with a slight - and I mean slight - expansion gap on each length. then I finished with approx. 5mm all down both sides - which I will cover with beading to allow for any future problems. hopefully that's it sorted, I am now putting 3 coats of clear Danish Oil onto the ceiling and i'll see how it goes! I might be interested in the lengths of tulip?
  6. Hi, Firstly thanks to all the help RE: my T&G ceiling issues- I ended up taking it all down myself and refitting it, looks great to be honest but it took forever sanding off all the glue the boat fitter had used! I'm now starting to fit all the plumbing stuff I've got for the boat, all recommended and supplied by Loomtech so its decent stuff :-) I'm OK with the fitting of the Stainless Steel water tank under the front deck- 2 holes in the front deck, one for the water inlet and a second for the breather. I then have external holes to drill for the galley outlet pump for the Belfast sink and washing machine - I assume that its OK to use one pump and one skin fitting? Bathroom outlet water pump and skin fitting for the bath and hand basin, again I'm assuming one outlet will be fine? Bilge pump in the engine bay, seems straightforward enough? Questions I have are :- how far above the water line would you drill the holes for the galley, bilge pump and bathroom? Do you use non-return valves on the skin fittings? I was going to put the waste pump out on the gun whales(hope I've got that right)?? Lastly, would you fit an outlet/breather on the expansion tank for the hot water cylinder? Thanks for all the help you've provided so far, trust me there's more requests coming?
  7. Thanks for all the replies and advice, a couple of things; The boat is less than 12 months old and was completely spray-foamed internally after being battened and its had no-one living on it so I'm thinking it shouldn't be condensation? The batons are fixed to the steel structure of the boat by Screwfix self-drilling screws and the batons haven't come loose.. Surely the wood should shrink in Winter not expand? I'm thinking that I'm gonna have to take down all the ceiling and start again so I might look up how those T&G clip things actually work. I don't want to start on the bloody thing until I'm certain that it wont happen again.
  8. I don't know if anyone has any ideas but I'm having big troubles with my TulipWood T & G ceiling. Its 'popped' away from the battens recently and there was a slight sign of damp in the wood so I removed and resealed the mushroom vents - as its the only place it could have come from - and had damaged parts replaced with new Tulipwood by a carpenter - cost around £500. This only happened in one area of the boat. Now a couple of months later its happened again in exactly the same place -slightly off centre and not directly under the vents but its happened along the same line in the bedroom as well as the lounge/galley like before. There is absolutely no sign of water coming in at all, but obviously the weather has got colder and damper? Don't want to get it fixed before I find out why its happening. Thanks Michael
  9. Is that Preston Brook near Northwich? And is it accessible for widebeams do we know?
  10. Sikaflex 29i marine sealant - its black and very sticky!
  11. Cotswoldsman; I'll take his number if you don't mind? I've got a bit of work I need doing.
  12. Hi, Got a few issues with my widebeam fitout that needs a carpenter/joiner to sort out I think! T&G ceiling is drooping in places, both entrances by the steps need sorting out, cupboards for the electrics and water cylinder made etc. Many thanks Michael 07852 944064
  13. Three Bz's Birds Boat Builders!! Built the shell for my Widebeam this year, very happy with John and such a nice helpful chap!
