  2. Must be some merit to this. I know of some waste recycling sites that employ an automatic commercial version of green laser to get rid of seagulls.....with great success apparently ?

  8. I live on my boat and have a Marina mooring (although I spend a fair bit of time out on the cut) and to imply that I am "avoiding council tax" is a bit harsh to be honest. I would gladly pay, but as Mike has pointed out, there is NO method in place for me to do this. All the council has to do is give my mooring residential status (some moorings have it, some don't) then bill me.......job done ? In my defence I do pay CT on my house to the same council but that is by the way.......

  11. I would agree with Tapton lock but tis still isolated so you can't navigate "to it" from the rest of the network. We do Retford to Misterton quite regular and agree being an SSSI is no hinderance at all. In fact we are just about to set off from Retford so will be passind your boat shortly ?? I don't know if you saw the photo of your boat alongside Python in West Stockwith lock? But it was me that took it ( before anyone starts I know that is bad grammer ?)
  12. I have probably missed something here (nowt new there then ) But why have the trust scrapped something that was quite clearly very popular ?? Maybe I have answered my own question but I would like to know the reasoning behind it.........
  13. What boat is it ?? We are based on the Chesterfield Just being nosey you understand ??
  14. I was there last week doing some work but managed to spend a very enjoyable night in the "Cavern Club"

  16. We like the winter especially the crisp clear mornings ? Only downside is that when the sun is low in the sky I don't get any solar due to the location of my mooring but you can't have everything ? Holding off lighting the stove as it's a bubble oil burner and it tends to stay in for the duration once lit (can't fault it) and as a bonus this year we have been taking advantage of the drop in fuel prices ???
  17. Well coming from the area I have always liked the Chesterfield and have seen quite a lot of the restoration over the years. We used to take the caravan to Worksoo cricket club for the weekend and that (Morse lock) was as far as the canal went...... I feel blessed now that my mooring is in Shireoaks Marina which, although it has had its problems, means I get to nimble up and down the Turner Wood flight as often as I like A very pleasant two day cruise and I am out into the big bad world of the tidal Trent and beyond ??
  18. I suppose if you were cruising as a group CB could come in handy ?? I have CB in the Land rover but only use it when green laning in a group, but, depending on a number of factors that are beyond me, they can sometimes work over quite long distances rather line of site ?? I have a hand held VHF on the boat (local to the Trent) and have a pair of PMR's but never seem to use them so they are probably not needed
  19. Well I got sent the link and password but have been too busy to look I shall pop over for a visit shortly ??
  20. Just stuck to drinking beer ? Same effects, but much more fun ?? Just stuck to drinking beer ? Same effects, but much more fun ??
  21. Another vote for Ali scaffold pole ? Cost nowt as I begged it off the scaffolders at work, not painted yet but will be and plugged at both ends

  23. Can't be bothered to trawl through the whole thread but it would seem that........... Having come up with an idea that actually found favour with boaters (those affected anyway) and produced an increased revenue stream for the trust........they have ditched it !! Excellent, more proof if it were needed that the powers that be quite simply do not have a clue............
  24. We switched CRT moorings after six months (because a better one came up) so for two months we were paying for both moorings.....a month later CRT contacted us and refunded two months payments on our original mooring..........WINNER!!
