  1. Around our part of the world, in the past month or so, the supermarkets have been more expensive that local Shell, Essex and Gulf stations, sometimes by up to 6p more per litre. Don’t always assume that the likes of Tesco etc are going to be the cheapest.
  2. There was no time for snagging on Honeystreet as it was still being finished just a few minutes before the first owners went out for the maiden trip. They had a few issues as might be expected and sent a strongly worded letter to Ownerships about the state of the boat. I think they were expecting a 100% immaculate and fault free boat. The head of Ownerships compiled a reply along the lines of these owners were not the sort of people he wished to have as customers, but decided not to send it in the heat of the moment, but sit on it until he calmed down. However, somebody in the office noted it had not been sent and popped it in the post anyway! Ownerships bought the share back and the owners got a full refund.
  3. I’m not sure, i didn’t pay much attention to the boat once I’d spotted the name. It was all over quite quickly.
  4. And I saw a Harnser on the Llangollen the other week and called out “Hallo Brian”. Wrong Harnser, as it turned out.
  5. Perhaps it’s a sign for Arthur to blow on his trombone?
  6. Off topic, but I’ve also eaten in a revolving restaurant in Auckland, NZ.
  7. This is a similar situation to when I worked for the NHS Estates Dept of our local Trust. The League of Friemds of the various hospitals would fund lots of new equipment which our capital budget could not afford. However, most of this kit needed ongoing maintenance, which had to be funded from the existing maintenance budget.
  8. It’s my wedding anniversary today, but I can’t think of any connection between that and the Weaver!
  9. The £ is at a two year low against the dollar, and oil is traded in dollars, which isn’t helping.
  10. When on board, there are 3 of us. One showers in the morning after we’ve been running for an hour, the second one has a shower after lunch, and the third when we’ve moored up. No need to run the engine alongside, and this method allows the hot water to “recover” after the first two showers.
  11. Huami may well be in your area at present/soon as I spotted him last week heading towards Llangollen near Ellesmere.
  12. Sorry about multiple posts, I thought I had a bad connection, being sat in the garden.
  13. Started from Wrenbury and went through New Marton on Wednesday early afternoon (2nd boat in queue). Returned on Saturday lunchtime (just had to wait for one boat to clear the first lock). We did the same journey last year but arrived on different days and it was busier. Started from Wrenbury and went through New Marton on Wednesday early afternoon (2nd boat in queue). 14. We’ve just got home from doing the Llangollen over the past two weeks and was surprised at how quiet the New Martin locks were. I think it might be something to do with the timing, when many of the hire boats were back at their bases for turnaround? Likewise, we got through Grindley Brook both ways with virtually no wait either.
  15. In 2012, they delivered the Xmas cards I ordered from them!
  16. You could be in trouble for Feeling Glad all over!
  17. The nut holding the dark blue cable is only on by about one thread as well.
  18. We have a shore line on our share boat, but as we don’t have a combi charger/ inverter, we didn’t connect up when in the basin at Llangollen last summer. It only provides shore power to the 230V system and the batteries have had a good charge with cruising every day. It is used back at base though for running the vacuum cleaner between turnarounds.
  19. Thanks Peter, I obviously missed it as I sometime skim over the posts and don’t always pick up on everything posted.
  20. Regarding the price of diesel, I read this morning on the BBC website that the UK gets almost one fifth of it’s diesel from Russia. I didn’t realise it was such a high proportion and I guess it might be the reason for the recent price hikes (excluding profiteering of course!).
  21. That is one of the issues, getting a firm date for deliveries, along with prices.
  22. We replaced the Alde boiler on our shared owners boat last winter with an Eberspacher unit fitted in the engine bay. So far it has performed well and we also get a bit more (narrow) cupboard space where the boiler used to live. The Alde had been a bit temperamental in it’s last couple of years. Gas is now just for cooking and a bottle lasts for ages. It seems to have been a timely move with the issues regarding shortage of Calor gas.
  23. Gonna need a big magnet for that one!
