  7. hello wazzer and sazzer I am all new to this and people on here have been friendly and helpfull. So welcome aboard and enjoy. Mark (Skids) and Emma. Hi Chris and Jayne ...........welcome Hello Jan looks like you are a bit excited there. You are going to be busy by the looks of things We thought about a washing machine but then decided against it, at the end of the day you are never to far from a laundrette really. Enjoy
  8. Sorry Kim been away in the camper. The update is....we stayed on her for a weekend in dry dock to sort out any "problems" before the boat went in the water. We are going back on the 27th to spend a weekend in the water but stay close to the Nottingham marina to give the boat its first shake down in the water. Then we got 2 weeks off starting the 12th August to bring the boat home. So its all good at the moment thanks for asking.
  9. thanks for the replies guys its much appreciated. So will be doing route 1 then and not worrying about detours...... Thanks again Mark and Emma
  10. Hello all hope you are good, need a little help. Me and Emma are bringing our new boat back from Nottingham boat sales in August (I know its probably the busiest time of year but its the only time I can get off work). It will be from Nottingham castle marina (nottingham) to Packet boat marina (Uxbridge). Now the more experienced people on here I need to know if as a novice (which in real terms we are as 4 narrow boat holidays for me and 2 for Emma does not make an expert) what route you would take 1) Nottingham onto the river soar straight down onto the grand union and its various barnches all the way down to packet or 2) Nottingham onto the Trent and Mersey, Coventry canal, Oxford canal then the grand union down to packet I have been looking in my maps and done a canal route paln on both and although longer in miles and time I think for us NO.2 route would be better in the long run. It has less locks and "navigational notes" in red! (which to me mean danger) But would like some sound and experienced advice from you guys. So any help would be very, very appreciated!
  11. Hello MrP Its good to know there a signs at the junctions, bit of a silly question but I had to ask it just to make sure. Got the maps, got the collins ones, so a big general one, the nottingham, heart of england and the grand union have all been ordered. Spent the 1st weekend on the boat on dry standing just to go through everything that is new, found a few little niggles and the survey threw up a couple but the boys at notts boats are taking care of everything. We are going up with a couple of friends on the 27th July to have a long weekend in the water and just going to cruise around nottingham to stay local incase we have any teething problems with the boat in the water. Then its the big one, 2 weeks starting the 12th August bringing her back to Uxbridge. Looked into RCR, I am a bit handy with tools as I restore old VW's but still going to get the cover for how much it costs as I have never worked on desiels. If I am honest we are a little bit worried about the rivers as we have never been on any before, but we will just plough through it. But as you say the biggest thing is to enjoy it, which we will do. Hi Kevin the guys at Notts are top blokes. Your near hemel then? I make you right then if you did that in 8 days we should be ok for the 2 weeks. When we got definate dates I will let you know and give an estimate of when we will be passing, might even stop for a cuppa if we are running on good time. Always nice to actually meet people you chat to in the world of cyber.
  12. Thats is a few changes.......very exciting times. Nope its this weekend coming we are on the boat, really lookimg forward to it. Going up saturday morning.
  13. hello Kim yea we saw the demo boat and our friends fell in love with it. We had already been on ours so could not get that excited. Was a lovely looking boat and I am really pleased for you guys, I would not be able to wait for it, already getting impatient for ours and its ready lol. What have you changed in the fitout? Mark and Emma
  14. thats where i got the grand union route from...................was a great help that site and thanks for pointing it out. Looks like its the union all the way with a few rivers in the mix. I know this is probably going to be a silly question but is it all sign posted like a road way. I have only been on the shropshire and that was straight up and back down again. The journey from nottingham looks a alot more complicated with a few dead ends and weirs thrown in. Just dont want to take any wrong turns. Quite scared about bringing her home as we will only have 2 weeks to do it in as thats all we can get off work lol. Thanks Kim, nice to "meet" you. Thanks for the congrats, as soon as we saw the boat we knew it was the one and although we only had half the money James and Findlay still did the deal on the assumption we would the other half of the money, which we have done so its all good. Going to spend next weekend on her even though she is in dry dock to try out the outfit and see if there are any teething problems so really looking forward to that. What boat have you gone for?
  15. yes please if you dont mind..........sounds really good, is there any storage under as you got the 2 extra seats? sounds different, would appreciate the pictures so I can get a proper idea of what you mean in my head.
