  1. No I haven’t! I checked the oil level on the dispstick and that looked normal. Should I find it to be as you describe, should I do an oil change?
  2. Ladies and gentlemen, I’m very pleased to say that l’ve had the starter motor serviced, I’ve just refitted it and the engine is running. Thanks so much for all the advice and experience, I would never have figured this out without your help. Have a great weekend!
  3. No, it wasn't making any clicking sound when I tried to start it despite all readings indicating it was receiving power fine. I took it straight to get serviced - looks like it'll be done by tomorrow, what a result! I had to get these tools from Halfords. There was just enough room between the engine and the keel to get some leverage on it.
  4. Result! I had to go get a breaking bar but it worked!
  5. Sweet Jesus. I’ve found and removed one bolt, I can see the other but as stipulated above I’m scratching me head re: how to remove it. I’m gonna try with a socket wrench and extension, failing that I really don’t know... As far as I can tell it’s just that one other bolt. I’ve just made an ad hoc measurement and I should be able to get it out with just a socket wrench extender. Pray to all the gods for me!
  6. Yep, already isolate now to to figure out how to remove the motor....
  7. So it looks like power is getting to the starter motor as it should , so the next step is to replace/service the starter motor. Wish me luck!
  8. No I’ve already checked that. I fitted a buzzer last year that goes when the key is in ING position so that it doesn’t get left in that position thus draining the starter. That buzzer is buzzing. I managed to stick the probes into place, turn the key and look at the multi meter display. I read 12V as you described, so I guess this means I need to take the starter off for servicing?
  9. OK. I'm away from the boat so I could get some ideas and research online. What a result! I'll head to the boat now to try all of this.
  10. I've just been pointed in the direction of a place that can service the starter, so that's covered. Great!
  11. Thanks Jen, that's a really good idea. I'll try that. I was thinking that there might just not be power getting to the motor, as it's not making any sort of noise at all.
  12. I've never had to replace any engine parts besides filters and such - do marinas tend to stock these?
  13. Yep I think it'll be easier to replace it that looking for a needle in a haystack!
  14. That sounds a bit right! So the whole starter motor will want replacing?
  15. Hi kids! I'm having trouble with my Beta 35. Here's the back story: I was out of the country for 6 months, during which time a friend was looking after the boat. He had to repack the stern gland in this time, and in the period immediately after, it wasn't properly packed and in the space of about a week the engine room flooded. The bottom of the engine was submerged. Immediately after draining, the engine seemed to be OK and started fine. Now, however, the engine won't start at all. At present, turning the ignition key doesn't seem to do anything. The starter battery is fine, I've checked all the wires at the connection points and fuses. I understand that if the started motor is shot, I'm likely to hear it clicking? As such I'm lead to believe that the problem is the wiring or the ignition switch itself? One of the connections on the ignition was horribly corroded. My questions for you experts are: 1) Have I overlooked something blindingly obvious? 2) Is there a way of hot-wiring the ignition switch to rule that out? Many thanks for any thoughts.
  16. Purchased direct from Beta Marine Come from right where the injector goes into the engine - not at the pipe union.
  17. Thanks for your reply- you’re the second person to say that so I think I’ll get someone over. Thanks!
  18. Hello! I have a leak on one of the injectors on my engine that I'd like to get rid of. I've replaced the gaskets as suggested but that didn't solve it. While removing and replacing the injector in question, I found it very difficult compared to the others, like perhaps the thread is gone? I have a limited understanding of engines, but to me it feels like it possibly needs: - a new injector? - rethreading? - a qualified mechanic? Very grateful for any suggestions!
  19. Great, I've now got my pump and accumulator right next to the tank, then a T 1) to a water filter to the cold tap in the kitchen (less than 1m of pipe from the tank) and 2) to the rest of the boat.
  20. As is, there would be a gap of approx 6cm (2 3/8”) between the vent and the gunwale. It will be tiled above the vent as well. Good idea, I’ll have a look
  21. Thanks so much for your insight. Ok yes that makes a lot of sense - it was very clumsily put together and probably only there for the installation. I’ll make sure we’re careful using water when the shower is in use! i think I’ll probably move the calorifier out once I’ve got a boiler
  22. Hi! Just doing the final design on my galley. I’m going from an L shape to having a counter on either side. Is it safe to have the cooker with the vent under the gunwale? thanks!
  23. Hi you lovely lot! I’m refitting my galley at the other end of the boat and as a result I’m reorganising the plumbing. I have a few questions I’d love your input on! 1) on the previous set up, there was a T join right after the pump going to the Calorifier. In my new set up, the T will be after the kitchen sink. Is that an issue? 2) there was a stop valve after said T to the calorifier. Should I replace it? 3) I’m thinking of fitting a gas boiler. If I do so, is there any reason to keep the calorifier? Thanks so much!
  24. I have a similar list. But it's subject to human error!
