  1. Congratulations Aft, may you enjoy many many happy cruising days
  2. I have not been in but OH has taken a dip in Stenson lock on our maiden voyage. Learnt a lot that day! Couldn't thank the gentleman who was having coffee in the cafe lock-side who came over , made a small lassoo loop by way of a step for hubby to hoist himself up on. Luckily, the lock wasn't full as Stenson is a deep one. It happened because he threw the rope up to me, I missed and it dropped back onto roof of boat. After retrieving and throwing again, he turned and slipped off. Resurfaced, still with hat on looking very shocked.
  3. We have 4 dogs too. 1 big and three terriers. We chose a cruiser stern which we had enclosed. We have a gate on each side so that the stern becomes an additional room. We dont let the dogs up there when travelling. Too dangerous, easy to trip over, like to concentrate on the boating. It works well for us as we know the dogs cannot just go jumping off the boat and we have some control. It also serves as a room to dry the dogs off (as we have a cover on it when moored) which has been a god send through winter and rainy days. (great for hanging up wet coats too). But as others have said, depends on what you want and how you want to use your boat.
  4. I am glad you have found your boat. Sad that it is in the condition it is. I do hope that you can find a way to get it back to how you want it. I posted initially on the forum in the hope that someone in the area may possibly spot it. I hope that it was the right thing to do and that you ignore the negative parts and stay with the forum. There are a few nice people on here, some very helpful that may be able to help in the future. . Good Luck

  16. Having just visited Aldermaston Wharf today, I am fairly sure that I saw Ara moored there roped up to a couple of hire boats.
  17. we only use Supertherm and I know that there has been threads on here before about this issue. The red/orange ash is brick dust. We too have had the odd bag (we only use one supplier though) that is rubbish. I have noticed that this latest bag we have, the coal nuts are a different shape than usual but has been burning quite hot. I do find that the bags with the orange/red dust doesnt burn or produce much heat but at £12.00 plus a bag, its not funny to open one that doesnt produce the heat you need.
  18. We had exactly the same problem.. Our boat builder just kept fitting a new pump (3 new ones ) until we finally took a stand and said get someone who knows what they are doing. The engineer from Sawley finally identified that there has to be a slight difference in the pressures between the PRV and the pump and the calorifier and sorted the small but very annoying issue for us by making the relevant adjustments.
  19. Have you tried Wilko's , not sure if one in Oxford though
  20. They were all sizes. The one we had was a long one (cant remember the name, but it slept 3 couples and had 3 separate sleeping compartments as well as the galley and bathroom. I remember picking her up and we had to wait whilst the cleaning process and shuffling of boats went on. Seemed to take forever as we wanted to get on the way and get to hawkesbury to moor up on the first night. Little space in the marina but they worked it very well
  21. The first nb i ever went on was from Clubline and if I recall it was very early 80's. 6 of us went down to Oxford and back. I remember pairs of jeans ending up in the cut , rescuing a sheep and a dog from out of the water and not even giving it a thought about locks , tying up, gas bottles etc. just did it. Admittedly, considerably younger then but it had some impact on me as I now live aboard.
  22. I was born there , schooled there, and brought my children up there, I no longer live there #pusb
  23. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/revealed-flytippers-dump-sofas-microwaves-8660720 Its really sad that this is in Cov Telegraph tonight. With so much being dumped, i would have thought someone might have seen something
