  1. Does anybody know if this has been fixed?
  2. A sneaky appearance from East Hill on the right...
  3. 1 litre per hour from my calculations over 400 hours, so I agree with MtB. Much less than a Beta 43!
  4. Credit where credit's due. I hope their "vandalism investigators" are as successful in trying to find (and prosecute) the culprit(s).
  5. "May it be" the "Only Time" you mention "Orinoco Flow" you "Wild Child"
  6. +1 for Moonraker DTV1000 (and available for £10 less than the price quoted above from a well known online retailer named after a South American river)
  7. This company has a wide range and sells by the metre. Auto Electric Supplies Limited - www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk I have no links to them other than being a customer. As well as all types of wire they do some fantastic fuse holders that light up if the fuse fails. I had never seen these before - impressed me!
  8. The ground paddle on the upper gate (towpath side) failed today. It has been reported to CRT and the paddle gear has been placed by the sign on the Whilton Marina side. Passage is still possible, it's just slower to fill. I was there when it happened and can confirm that it wasn't dropped.
  9. Bought mine a year ago and it's been "fit and forget" so far. I had to supply and fit glands (M20 size), wire (blue artic 3 core 2.5 sq mm rated at 25A) and 16A plug and socket. None of these were supplied with the unit so some electrical skills or a competent electrician will be required, but that will be the same for the Victron. A couple of things to bear in mind are the weight and size of the enclosure when choosing a home for it.
  10. In the Autumn 2017 edition of NarrowBoat magazine (on sales from 29th September) there will be an article "Blue and Yellow - A close look at the much-derided livery of British Waterways boat" That assumes you can wait that long?
  11. I have had great success using a machine polisher, this link will take you to the Dual Action version I use. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/cat_81.html (you will need to make 240v AC 850W available) I would avoid anything that looks like an angle grinder, in the wrong hands you can get swirls and worst case burn through the paint. Be careful to select the right polishing products, "avoid silicone based products" appears to be a common recommendation if you need to do any paint repairs in the future. Personally I avoid T-Cut. For what it's worth I use Meguairs #105 and #205, a UV sealant Menzerna Power Protect and Chemical Guys Wet Butter Wax but please get advice from your painter or someone else in the know before you start work. P.S. I have no association with cleanyourcar except being a satisfied customer.
  12. My 3LW operates at 45 deg C in normal conditions (up to 50 deg after some river work). This means that the thermostat never opens and therefore the skin tank feed and return remain cold. The "short circuit" gets warm/hot so you should have two warm/hot and one cold pipe on the pump. The consequence of this is that there is no ability to heat hot water from the engine, you might want to consider this when specifying your system. We use either an Eberspacher Hydronic or a 1kW immersion powered by a 3.5kW Travel Pack. After half an hour the top cover is only a few degrees above ambient. Full operating temperature takes about 1-1.5 hours of cruising.
  13. Bear Boating in the Yorkshire Dales have launched a "wide" this year. http://www.bearboating.co.uk/nemo.htm
  14. Thanks Ray T - I wasn't aware this book referenced manufacturer colours so I will check it out.
  15. Can anyone confirm the "correct" colour references for a traditional sliding hatch and runners? I am looking to match the red, white and green to a Craftmaster paint colour chart if possible. Mod: Please move to Heritage if more appropriate (Liking the new forum design..!)
  16. Following the sad announcement of the passing of Steve Miles (Geoffrey Lewis) on 9th November 2016 at the age of 69 years, a funeral service will be held on Tuesday 13th December at 2.00pm. Banbury Crematorium Hardwick Hill Southam Road Banbury OX16 1ST
  17. I appreciate R.J Perkins may not be directly related to building narrowboats but I would be interested to know if anything is known about their build list. I am particularly interested in boats built for Medway Pilots Association in the mid-50's. My interest is in tracing the history of a Gardner 3LW sold in1954. Thanks
  18. Thanks All, a number of options to consider but sadly the Peak Forest will be too far for relatives travelling from Fleetwood. Fortunately we were lucky enough to see the that part of the world in 2013 as part of our Cheshire Ring tour.
  19. Can anybody recommend a reputable day boat hire provider in the North West on either the Lancaster Canal or Leeds & Liverpool Canal? Ellerbeck Narrowboats are in the right area but restrict hirers to 5 miles of canal due to their "you shall not pass through a lock" policy so they have been ruled out.
  20. Yep it's the last night. We were going to moor at Bridge 92 but this sounds like a good excuse to stop at Red Bull.
  21. Thanks for the tips Ian D. We start the Cheshire Ring on Saturday from Scholar Green with an added detour to Parbold over the middle weekend. Funnily enough, with Canalplan, Nicholsons, Pearsons and the Good Beer Guide in hand.
  22. Thanks Dave_P, an option for next year perhaps.....Cheshire Ring + Leeds Liverpool to Parbold bekons this month, can't wait!
  23. Had a great weekend in Yorkshire with Shire Cruisers (onboard nb Leicester complete with old Lister) and opted for 24 miles and 46 locks of the C&H and Huddersfield Broad Canal in favour of the Rochdale. The route offers a bit of everything.....no rain, countryside, urban, canal and river. Hard work but worth it! The locomotive bridge is something special. Thanks to Steve (nb Grumpy Gramps) for the warm welcome at Aspley Basin. (At the risk of turning in to another Mr Grumpy - Is it me or do "community boats" have a different rule book to everyone else? C&H locals will know exactly who I am referring to)
  24. Thanks everyone for your advice France sounds great but we have decided to try the Rochdale and C&H with Shire Cruisers. This habit is getting expensive
