  1. The thermostat is in a housing at the front/top with three or four? screws securing the cover, which has a waterpipe to it. Sorry hard to explain !
  2. I found out, I fitted one, it fits, okay?
  3. Well it (ford item) fitted my brass one, the machined face of the cylinderhead being identical....
  4. Not 100% about the lift pump. I think when Lister/ Beta derated the engine it was pretty straight forward adjustments to the injector system. The tickover on the Ford 3000 is higher. Thinking about it mine has a Bakelite knob on top which I do think is different. You do know the Lister CRK3 is the same engine don't you? Not all those were derated though. Waterpump is a good question, I would guess only the one for a cab heater on the tractor? Diesel filter is the same. Oil filter too, Oakes Brothers found me a bigger one though. Some debate about the thermostat let off temp being different. I chose the expensive Beta one in the end... The air filter on mine is same as LR Defender TD3, single element (outer) . Pulley belt IS different. I changed my alternator for an 80amp one, A127 Lucas, very common.
  5. Get down to your local New Holland dealer and ask for a rocker cover gasket for a Ford 3000 tractor. There's a seller on ebay called Mayhill Tractors do them too.
  6. I have one fitted to my Harley, it's bloody great !
  7. Short sighted data loggers, that's all we need FFS !
  8. Ooops, manners... Welcome to the forum. Just checked my stats and at 500rpm (tickover) in good depth our 45ft, BD3 powered, through a 21" prop does 2.7mph. I never get any grief.
  9. http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=73982&hl= You'll be alright they said, won't affect you they said !!! They don't take any notice of people with a HM they said... (well okay I am paraphrasing there a bit ) Well I do know the potential scenario in the above thread isn't identical to DeanS situation. But not far off... I'm not gloating or saying I told you so, in fact I am delighted that DeanS situation has been cleared up and he even got an extension, fairplay. ( Does set a precedent surely ?) It is just such a shame that it did come to this after all. Incidentally has anyone got an update on the person pretending to be an EO in the Banbury area? Cheers Bill
  10. I think most people judge if someone is going past them when moored too fast by engine note ( and the boat moving), a slow revving trad engine doesn't sound like it is. It may be you have a 1:1 (direct) gearbox fitted. I'd be more worried about the engine coking up than pissing people off :0) How many rpm is your tickover, what engine?? Cheers Bill
  11. If MTB hasn't I will lend him mine...
  12. Good, glad I am not alone. No mate I don't. To be honest I keep track of our SOC with a little LED volt meter in the saloon lighter plug socket ( some volt drop), if we are out crusing and pitched up for a couple of days I would start the motor if the reading is 12.3 v in the morning when we get up. I have never had to do this, usually moving on anyway ! Good explanation ! Fairplay. Sort of what I meant when I say I have given up reading current in our English weather... Cheers ! :0)
  13. Have we been here before mate? :0)) No expert but I'll start the bidding at 26.2v as a float charge reading (i.e. Batteries are full and controller is maintaining that) Gut feeling... sulphated batteries, not what you want to hear... If you remember my set up is two 110AH cheapo's (12v system), two Bosch (horribly expensive at over £2 per watt !!!! ) 40w panels and a cheap PWM 10 amp controller, in Parallel. As you well know we only visit the boat every two weeks and spend one or two nights aboard. Almost every time I arrive at the boat the fully charged indicator is flashing, regardless of time of year or weather. Mebbe twice last winter it wasn't, but hey we can deal with that... This has been the case for 2 ½ years now. The first panel was fitted two weeks after I fitted the batteries, went to two panels as the mooring we had at Hay Bridge (for one winter) was shaded (even in winter.) Another scenario, last week it was very bright, arrived on Sat AM and the batteries were fully charged ( of course), turn on the tiny and dodgy fridge which is set to run constantly at the mo. All day the panels kept up, full charge light flashing til beer o'clock when the Tchoons went on. I keep banging on and no-one takes notice, but I will say again, Photonic Universe on Ebay mate, pay the extra for the Bosch panel and sorry but fit some new batts at hte same time, IMHO to run a 24v system you need to put in 4 of them, but that is just again a Bush Mechanic's gut feeling. When I first got the one first panel for a couple of weeks it was stowed in the engine room with just the light from the portholes and pigeon box and it still produced charge. I have learnt that monitoring the current being a complete waste of my time, it varies minute by minute with English weather chap. Having panels that make some charge, no matter how tiny, nearly all the time, is better than panels that claim to make big amps only some of the time surely? ( Some folk claim moonlight will make a charge contribution, I remain sceptical as I am doing other things at night) . I do wonder how much loss the 24 to 12 converter is bringing into the equation too. Cheers Buddy
  14. Funnily enough I too had a spat with a small Aussie woman last month, must be all the thing. Fingers crossed we can shout ASHES! back at them shortly ! :0)
  15. "Manners maketh Man" Anybody remember that? MTB... When I fail to be thanked for holding a door I boldy say "My Pleasure" or "Suit yourself" when someone fails to respond to a friendly greeting. Boating, there's a lot of very Superior People about dontcha know, "Thank you Commodore ! " is my favourite put down. The bottom of our skeg is 3 foot down under power, so I do a lot of ploughing on the Oxford, ease off to tickover (gain some draught) pull over as far as possible and let em rattle past in their blind little world. If they are really lucky they don't notice me at all. Why is that man sounding his Klaxon ??? It's a bloody blind bridge ole luv !!! Why is that man sounding his Klaxon ??? Leave the bloody gate open for me !!! What's that noise like an old car ??? I give up !!! Cruising out of season, now that's the job... :0)
  16. Choose what size you want? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231404659787?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=530664158223&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  17. No, Ford for a BD3. John Deere for a JD3. Sorry for being off topic MTB
  18. Hi Mike I would suggest that it is indeed the reduction from 115mm to 80 speeding up the exhaust gas causing the extra noise, just like a stinger pipe does on a racing two-stroke. Maybe another expansion box ( like the one you have on Aldebaran ) would slow the gas before it goes through the roof flange? Alternatively, If I had to buy a silencer I would go to a tractor dealership and have a look at what they have. I have run a box from a Ford 4600 on my Landrover Series 2A for years. Hefty kit. New Holland supply old Ford parts. I plan to fit the same to the BD3 when it needs a new one. Sensible sound but not restrictive. Cheers Bill
  19. Go and find yourself a Mariner stove at gr8fires.blah. Cheap as chips. 4kw, & bit on the warm side for our 25ft cabin on a 45ft boat, do yours a treat. Runs well throttled back too! Ecofan anyone? Popcorn...
  20. I have seen chaps taking Zander on 'our stretch' mate. Had Zander in France once, delicious! The Ashby holds them too. Cheers Bill
  21. LAMP WIPAC 3.1/2" BLACK WORKLAMP S7103 From Midland Chandlers or eBay. Tiny, works a treat, 30 watts I think, got us through Braunston tother day no bother, £8.50 ish, adjustable bracket...
  22. We actually have to do a CPC for Quads here on the farm. Bloody H&S gone mad ? No. They are brutes & obviously in the wrong hands potentially lethal ( Messers O.Ozbourne, R.Mayall et al ). Very irresponsible of CRT ( & I am not usually one of their detractors on here) IF he had no training. Imagine if he had killed a child instead of nearly killing himself ? Oh, wait, !!! I'm not allowed to ride a Motorcycle along the towing path... How does that work then? PAH! Cheers Bill
  23. Diesel vapour in confined spaces is pretty atomic in nature, so don't do it! There is lots of stuff that stops steel rusting, use one instead. Rather agree with MtB, bit like the utterly useless WD40 IMHO. Cheers Bill
  24. Dean. Over the years I have had to fix many Tractors, HGV's, Waterpumps etc with clogged filters. But a month overdue isn't going to ruin your life. Cheers Bill
  25. Interesting that I am not the only one to have noticed this on the Oxford. When ascending I have found that hanging back close to the bottom gates reduces the effect somewhat. The more one tries to stay central in the lock the worse it is. Only 45 ft long you see. Cheers Bill
