  1. Personally I would take the longer route via Great Haywood.
  2. Ouch ! Yes obviously I realise that, with all the problems that brings to forecourt managers btw. FWIW , I agree that the additives are snake oil/sticking plasters too. I was referring to the incidents of agricultural machinery breaking down described in the OP. I had an issue with a wood chipper with a fuel blockage that was unusual a few months ago, could have been all the usual suspects, good to keep ones knowledge up to date, no ? Not sure of the need to truncate my post as you did.
  3. Thanks for this Tony. Hydrogenated fats mixed in with animal fats, vegetable oil, olive oil etc then no doubt. Greenie for you Sir !
  4. This is a very interesting thread indeed. How many times have we been told that red diesel is exactly the same as white, just with marker added , on this forum? Perhaps this is not the case after all ? It would be wrong to suggest that fuel companies are being lax with the recycling of used cooking oil of course!
  5. Many Motor Factors and Agricultural machinery suppliers have a belt gauge. It looks a bit like the thing they measured your feet with at the shoe shop . Take old belts, get them measured, buy new, fit.....
  6. That last sentence, very sage advice folks. ?
  7. This really is a very interesting discussion. Thank you very much to the contributors, who resisted cycles and dragonflies.
  8. I’m glad you asked ! Buying a 25 litre can works out at £3 per litre FOR WHITE version of EcoPar. They do do a Red , but let’s please NOT go there already! ?
  9. https://aaoil.co.uk/brands/ecopar/ In the meantime I’ll be changing to this to save my sordid old lungs. Costs a fortune, but at only 100 to 200 hrs running engine p.a. I have the budget for it. *that will get a reaction “ hides .... popcorn...... ?
  10. Open to discussion, the Montgomery Canal has charging points already, I personally see the future Authority’s for Canals and Rivers getting grants to install, but then I am a very optimistic chap..... and so is my wife.... but she isn’t a chap... obviously.
  11. I believe most EV’s use batteries that are on a lease agreement, presumably I’m not gonna find some in my local scrapyard.... but I do have a tame local scrapper.
  12. So perhaps a donor forklift ? Thanks for your help.
  13. Long time no post. So I read with interest that by 2050 All boats must by zero emissions. I am 54. With that in mind as a live aboard, I could still be around. With an old boat worth very little just when a nest egg might be handy. I like future proof. Conversions won’t get cheaper. So my question to the panel is.... could I use my BD3 engine to power a big KW/Kva genset ? Electric motor for propulsion, big battery bank obvs. Doubtless charging stations will miraculously appear all along the moorings and towing paths..... or not. Who knows how battery technology will develop in the next 30 years. Elton Mush , or whatever his stupid name is, will have used the worlds supply of Lithium shortly. Am I on the right track here or do we think generation of ones own electricity will be outlawed too? Discuss....?
  14. Plus one here for PhotonicUniverse gear !
  15. We could of course go back to using horses to pull boats on the inland waterways.....
  16. Phil Jones. Calf Heath. Our boat done 6years ago with 2pack, some pitting on the waterline needed attention before we agreed the purchase back then. I get down and scrub a random patch every 6 months with an old fashioned scrubbing brush. Still perfect. Cheers.
  17. Hi Mike. Agree with you there. The shorepower extension is hanging on the fence and won’t get plugged in unless I need it, nasty thing, rotting my lovely boat ! Lol.
  18. Fantastic, that’s what I needed to know. Thanks for you accuracies with my erm, power audit, but yes we really do use very little * . Just need to make up for the gloomy winter without running the engine, and as you have detected from the other thread despite owning our boat 6yrs and living aboard 2 ½ I am a shorepower virgin. Thanks once again . ETA * We don’t have an inverter you see.
  19. Thank Alan, yes that’s right, and those boats aren’t in great shape, one is riveted iron and the other is very rusty along the water line indeed. I was just thinking out loud. Good advice on the forum as always. Cheers Got it, advice will be taken, thank you very much.
  20. Smashing, the very answer I was looking for, thank you. I don’t take your advice as woo-woo at all, and thank you. I will take the advice given and spend the money now. Cheers
  21. So I need to wire in the above. 3 output version. Stater battery does fine from a solar panel with a dedicated Pwm controller. Leisure batteries not so good (separate panels and controller). Power audit , 2 amps 12vdc during the day. 7 amps 12vdc in evening. 0 amps at night. Maximum use 11amps 12vdc if every thing is on at the same time. VSR links starter and leisure batteries. I think I only need to use 2 outputs, one to leisure, one to dc house output. Does any of this make sense? Be Nice !
