I know of 3 boats on dry land that have had people living in them for many years, I am not going to say where but all with in a stone's throw from canals/river. Clearly if you are careful or in off grid area you are safe. For many years a narrowboat sat in a field near the canal its sat in a channel of water, others will no what happened to it.
If I was doing it I would dig a trench put concrete in the bottom, put services in ground source heating then concrete it in so its easy to get in and out. Some well placed bushes and trees and as if by magic it's gone from sight, especially if you paint the boat camouflage say?

Nothing to do with boats, just some amazing wild animal encounters. I rode past a few these recently while riding over 1,200 miles around Sri Lanka over 3 weeks on a 125cc scooter. They don't really have anything bigger than 250cc bikes & scooters for rent.
In terms of danger the biggest risk doesn't come from the elephants but from drivers and other motorbike riders who don't look, or who do look but pull out anyway, tuk tuks, maniac bus drivers, thousands of stray dogs on the road as well as people, cows, goats and I even saw a huge snake crossing the road which I think got run over by a car coming the other way.
Great adventure though and the Sri Lankan people are warm and welcoming.
In that second picture I didn't stop that close. The elephant was further away but suddenly walked up to the bike quickly as I was taking a picture and I didn't have time to get back on the bike so I ran away! 🤣
Glad you enjoyed the holiday

They tried not to be satisfied in one case, the judge told them to stop being so picky. High court I believe so precedent set
Supreme court is the precedent I am afraid, its why we have ULEZs appearing everywhere

Another thing to add to the mix. When I was moored on the Thames and first bought a Gold licence, BW wrote to me demanding I tell them where my home mooring was. I thought it none of their business so refused to tell them. They got quite shirty about it so I eventually told them it where it was (i.e. on the Thames). They then contacted the marina asking them for confirmation, and the marina contacted me asking if it was ok to tell them!
I'm still not sure what all that was about as back then I only ever ventured off the Thames for the occasional day trip onto the K&A or a holiday around the Thames/Oxford/GU loop.
Interesting Mike

I think the CRT should bring back the requirement to display the licence.
There is huge thing near me, that obviously has not moved recently, there is no notice evident, it has a number, no other signs of recent activity.
I know a boat that display no number or license just a false name it transpires

Am I correct that these stoves don't need fed with their own direct air supply from outside?
Would they pull much of a draught when operating?
Yes you are correct, has a little flap system on it to keep the amount of air correct

This morning the Straddle was sold by CaRT at auction for £1.3million, the Arches at Victoria Quays also sold today at auction for £430K, both bought by the same bidder. This Thread is so F@cking boring, please try to put on some up to date info/interesting comments instead of just photos.
I believe CRT turned down a earlier offer of 2. something million just for the Straddle last year?

The Peter Principle states that everyone rises to their own level of incompetence.
The idea is that most people are promoted (or gain a better post) on the basis that they succeeded at their previous one, not that they have been objectively assessed for the new one.
It's the Tim and Peter principle

And wasn't Boris the most perfect example of this happening anyone can think of?
As soon as he got in he sacked all the competent old hands in the tory party and appointed new ministers according to their track record of arse-licking, just as you describe.
I agree but thankfully he succeeded in getting Brexit done

Which is what made me suspect a mechanical failure.
We had similar happen on a boat we hired (although with much less expensive consequences and on a much smallet scale!)
Something failed with the forward gear selection mid manoeuvre and putting the throttle ahead engaged reverse at an alarming rate!
They can be well worn on the Broads cant they?
I would really like one of the modern electric/hybrid ones, suc6a good looking boat and not on CRT waterways

You know the score mate. The captain was later in his career promoted to Admiral, I kid you not. Dont know what happened to the poor young subby who was passing distance over the radio though lol. Best part about it was we had been in the med all summer and visited many many ports and countries and ended up in fabulous Gib as it was in those days for weeks working tropical routine on 2 hour working days with 22 off in the bars etc etc Absoloootely fantastic days!!
True I have seen the most awful cockup by senior officers rewarded by promotion 😪. Though later one was demoted by court martial and discharged without pension, I was senior witness against him as it happens. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

It's nothing new, gone on for years, long B4 soshal Meena report everything. In the mid seventies I was on HMS Andromeda out the med. We did a stern berth in Izmir. Stern berths are very unusual for British warships. I was on the quarterdeck holding a rattan fender with oppos to lower o er stern to come alongside, it's a road, not a jetty and concrete edge. Ossifer with hand held radio passing distance to bridge re distance. Long story short we didn't stop and hit doing iirc 7 or 8 knots 😩
I had dropped my fender as did others and ran up the waists a second or so before impact. We bounced forward after overrunning the concrete by about3 feet. massive damage including props and shafts. Fender was just dust on top of the sea. Limped to dry dock in Gib for several weeks and repairs in the millions lol.
I can imagine a few people were in deep poo after that?

Is it the three wheel version or the 4. If its 3 wheel the back box on this one wouldn't fit . EV-chassis | 2CVgarage » 2CVgarage
It would because I have no backseat as it's a 2 seater, so the battery would easily fit behind the rear seat where the fuel tank fits

I guess a Lomax is light enough, you wouldn't need to bother jacking it up. Just get someone to lift the front end while you get your grease gun out.
True, I have to be honest it's a candidate for an ev conversion.................😁😁😁😁😁😁

The Kingpins on the 2CV and Dyane are a terrible design. They are sposed to be greased every 1500m or so, and the wheels lifted off the ground to do so. I have changed them on Mrs Rs Dyane a number of times, and it isn't a pleasant job.A number of years ago some chap was offering a ball joint conversion, but it meant sending the swinging arm assembly off for welding and conversion. I never did have it done because the cost was prohibitive, though I'm beginning to wish I had.
Reduced weight and increased access might help in my case? But I had forgotten my Ami and the fun and games!

The Hilman Imp was ok but I had to do some serious mods. Early models king pins seized up, swollen nylon bushed, the mod was to fit and ream proper bushes with grease nipples. Pneumatic throttle control converted to ordinary cable. Overheating, water pump or head gasket.
I found most overheating was caused by the fan drawing engine bay heat through the radiator along with oils etc, my clan was the same, I retro fitted a front radiator and electric fan problem sorted same for imps.
9 hours ago, Ronaldo47 said:Indeed, the king pins were sealed "for life", but the life wasn't long! I retrofitted mine with grease nipples but it didn't improve things greatly. When I replaced them for the first time on my then 5 year old Imp, I couldn't shift them and had to remove the hinge assembly and tip one of the technicians in the lab workshop at Plessey to remove the king pin using a fly press. I had a similar experience with the Harvey Spicer UJs on the rear wheels. The Rootes workshop manual instructed you to "tap gently on the ears of the yoke and the shells will emerge". In practice, removal of the half axle assembly to a heavy vice and slogging on the ears of the yoke with lump hammer was necessary.
I have king pins on my citroen 2CV based lomax fully rebuilt by someone, that's all the suspension, so I am going to try greasing it this week

I call it informative not clickbait, people will buy those batteries thinking they are safe, I wish he had tried overcharging short circuiting one of the remaining cells because for me that's the big problem, rather than one getting punctured ?

Bloody marines went to ground because they knew what had happened unlike me 🤣🤣🤣

Red oxide is rubbish these days. The last lot i got seemed to have the consistancy of water, and would best be described as 'orange oxide primer'. I hear tales of when paint was paint, and red lead was the stuff to use. I keep meaning to try the resin based zinc primer bonda primer.
You can buy epoxy primer better by far and waterproof for 6 months, comes in big rattle cans also etch properties, works on fiberglass as well and can painted without rubbing down as long as painted within 24 hours, mines was painted within the hour today looking good

Curious, because I don't think I've ever seen 30mm glass fuses used in a car.
Not since about 1960 that is. Modern cars seem to use spade type fuses, and prior to that, those horrendous 'bullet' fuses.

I bought some crap from Lidl, it was for my front stove, it was rubbish all ash and no heat, after getting a load of hardwood off cuts, I put the remainder in the Rayburn which it nearly choked up! The anthracite I normally use produces a qtr of the ash and is cheaper, but it won't burn on the front stove
