  2. I had that yesterday coming up to Sheffield, contractors cut the tree down as I cruised up to it! Seems they forgot to tell the lock keepers about it! They dragged it out of the way with a tractor, another minute earlier might not have ended so well though. The whole of the flight has willows down and in the water making navigation interesting

  11. 4.6kw of solar I have 30 x 36 volts valence batteries for the electric drive motor and 6 x 12 volt valence batteries for leisure use. So when not moving drive solar heats hot water, in the winter all solar can be switched to domestic use. Works for me anyway, at the moment all solar is switched to drive and whispergen is keeping me warm and leisure batteries charged. I set up the system to be self sufficient years ago and have modified it as something better comes along
  12. I keep my batteries inside under the rear step next to the central heating pipes, like you my excess solar is used for heating hot water via a 3kw immersion heater works well so well that occasionally it turns on the central heating pump to get rid of excess heat!

  16. It always works so it constantly balances just like a BMS, also as its 15S you would need one of it. I have 225 cells making up my 3 banks that's 75 batteries per bank in a 5P 15S configuration I cant monitor them separately so I have installed 3 boards for 125 squids to do it for me. It's cheap when you consider how expensive the batteries were
  17. I dont want my new batteries to develop bad habits so by keeping them balanced at all times, this is when charging, discharging or just in the middle its better for the bank. After I have finished charging they are bound to show some in balance the board will sort it out, I finish the journey the board balances the pack its what the EV makers do and if its good enough for them its good enough for me and they are cheap so why not?
  18. Its not pointless Ivan I can 400 amps from the batteries in the car plus it has regen so their is no guarantee that cells will stay balanced even in the mid range, so something that balances the cells constantly is the best thing possible for me. It can move 5 amps around which is more than enough for new quality matched cells like mine, and for 125 pound for the 3 banks why not its peanuts in comparison to the price of the batteries
  19. Bob the blurb with my boards say they balance at 5 amps so I am happy to continue with them rather than a BMS. I am not concerned about cut offs because the charger cuts off before 60 volts anyway. After contacting the maker they say the boards power themselves and constantly balance the cells which for me is exactly what I want

  21. By working it out of course that and the internet. Plenty on there about safe voltages, I don't know what you are trying to do to be honest and I have been using LifePo4s for 3 years with no issues and no knackered batteries. The 3 banks I have built for the car should work fine with the boards and the charger cutting out at 60 volts. That's what James has done and his bank is staying balanced, we never go to 100% as their is no need
  22. You are wrong it balance boards not by resistors but by active balance my cells were out of the box I didn't check them just made them into 5P 15S x 3 banks and connected boards checked a couple of the cells and they were different volts next morning all the same volts. I will only change to 60 volts maximum is 63 so they will always balance over a period of time just like my valence batteries. I don't want 100% as I know the damage it causes 80% is best and gives the longest battery life, all those EV makers are not wrong.
  23. I have just finished putting my banks together, didn't balance cells just fitted battery balance boards next day all cells balanced! 125 for 3 15s boards worth every penny
  24. I didn't want to burst LGs bubble Ken next door uses it when fishing off his boat. Doesn't do it much now as it's to easy, we are always feeding swans and ducks so the fish get the sinking or floating bread sometimes.
