  8. Mine was a mitsubishi based generator, very simple and ultimately reliable, the pistons just became stuck, I striped it and dissolved the sticky mess. It had a strange smell and was sticky on the fingers
  9. Same as mine, the fuel guard eventually was blocked and very sticky, I cleaned it in thinners, same with the extremely simple injection pump

  13. I used fuel treatments and because it was electric drive very little diesel used, I suspect that's why I ended up with sticky fuel
  14. I am going to be very blunt. My boat originally had this design, it was so rubbish it was removed, honestly at very low speeds it was OK as soon as normal cruising or above it limited the amount of water getting to the prop. Then there was the coming into the bank in shallow waters it didn't happen it used to bounce off! Do not continue with this I only lasted a few months, the Trent both tidal and non tidal was dangerous it just couldn't deliver the power! After it was removed and stretched 7 foot it was much safer and powerful also the prop only fouled the normal amount rather than 2 or 3 times every trip. Johnathan Wilson built it under protest it also had a detachable stern so the tanks were for ballast, it didn't work either! I bought it secondhand and it was relatively cheap because nobody wanted it. You can can contact me and talk on the phone if you wish Ian my boat was like this they don't work on canals, mine was removed by Johny as it was that bad Mine steered really well at slow speeds but it also used to foul up often mid turn

  20. This explains things I did have a fuel treatment in my diesel, it was over 6 months old, in my case I used the old diesel in the bubble stove so no waste as the stove burnt it happily, I did mix it with kero. So now I have 2 boats my big one has a mix of proper marine diesel HVO and normal red diesel. I run the generator regularly through the winter so it get used, which I suppose is the best idea. Second boat has HVO and normal red diesel, I use the Webasto diesel heater regularly and engine for hot water and top up the batteries. So again its getting used however it does have a biocide in it, so it might not have been my best idea? I can say that stick diesel is a nightmare and fortunately everything ended up OK in the end.
