  1. Hello Paul, we often visit Rugby, Hillmorton, Crick, Napton, Banbury etc, I should have mentioned this. I was just interested in the legality of returnint to the same moorings (or being seen to) time and time again.
  2. Hello all. Having heard so much about cc-ers and over staying or being seen to be spending too much time in one area, how do we stand?? We have a marina mooring paid up for the coming year. We are retired and have plenty of free time. Our mooring is in the Braunston area. We often take our boat out of our marina and spend a week on the Braunston 14 day visitor moorings. We are not CC-ers as we have a paid up marina mooring. We have heard so much about bridge hoppers and boaters over staying on visitor moorings (or appearing to). How do we stand legally with BW and are our continuous re-visits to the same visitor moorings allowed as we are not CC-ers? Hard hat is now well and truly on!!

  4. This is the bit I struggle with – I don’t believe it would have cost them much (if anything at all) to implement the few new pages and enable the public to gain access to them. I suspect that BW have their own IT team and when they are not busy updating the stoppages page they could quite easily have knocked up the un-licensed reporting page.

  6. As I mentioned in my first post, I suspect that BW don’t do anything with the data entered by the public. Why would they when they already know about all of the boats on the system already – licensed and unlicensed. I believe it is just to make the ‘non-license’ reporters feel good in themselves. I know a few of the BW employees (not sure of their titles these days) that walk their ‘length’ recording all of the boats they pass. They tell me that they have to check their length at least once every month. Many have now been issued with bicycles which are next to useless to them because of the state of the tow paths. Many that do the checking don’t do the enforcing, that is handled by a different team. So far, all of the BW length walkers I have met have been very nice people and are sympathetic with boat owners that do not have licenses because they have fallen on hard times (it could happen to any of us). So, to re-cap, I believe the new reporting page will make life easier for the BW phone answering personnel and BW will do nothing with the data they receive from the web page as they already have it. The non-license reporters will feel good because they will believe they have ‘put the boot in’ to a non-license payer. All only my personal thoughts.
  7. I would think that the site will pay for itself in a very short time if they receive fewer phone calls as a result. I would also not expect the setting up of the additional pages would have cost them very much as much of the infrastructure already existed before they opened it up to the public. It is very likely based on their own internal checking and recording system – if they have any sense ????
  8. Thanks, I had the impression from other posts that the average usage seemed to be around 1 litre per hour so thought my 1.25 was maybe on the high side.
  9. Just a thought….. It will cost BW absolutely nothing to just ‘ignore’ any reports sent to their web site. It cost BW time and effort to have to answer phones to folk reporting unlicensed boats. As has been noted before, BW are very well aware of all of the unlicensed boats on the system and where they are located. They gain nothing from their new web page except not having to answer some unnecessary phone calls.
  10. I just worked out our fuel consumption over the last 1000 engine hours and it comes to 1.25 litres per hour. The engine is in good condition (Nanni Diesel 4.195), 3000 hours on the clock and runs clean. Is 1.25 litres per hour good, bad or average for the above engine in a 60 foot boat??? The engine is used for propulsion only as we run a generator for battery charging etc. when moored up for a few days. We are CCers.

  13. I will be very interested to see what the ‘actual’ LPG usage figures are when you have had the generator up and running for a few bottles of gas. They look very good to me, maybe too good to be true?? Any way you look at it, you have still made the right choice with the EU20.
  14. Based on the relatively low income involved, I can’t help wonder just how much time and effort HMRC will spend chasing up on folk claiming low levels of propulsion usage. Only time will tell.
