  1. If the previous owner is half decent I am sure they would. i bought my boat from Markinaboat of this forum and we did exactly the same both for fuel and pump out. It wasn’t for the benefit of my boat but for others in the marina as I wasn’t keen for that method of introduction to my new berthing neighbours ? Mark gave me a brilliant handover and time wasn’t an issue. To this day I even bother him with the odd Q. ?

  4. Yesterday I saw a clip for a TV programme on CNBC which made reference to a new technology which will be able to accept a charge 1000 times faster than lithium. It’s broadcast at 10pm on Thursday 7th June and it is called ‘The Edge’. May be of interest to some. Apologies but I just realised I posted about this previously. Proof if it were ever needed than I have exceptionally poo short term memory. ?

  6. Strange world isn’t it. You would think everywhere would be the same. I have a bank account in South Africa despite not living there and I could open a bank account in America if I so wished. Money laundering regs are trotted out by everyone in financial institutions who can’t be bothered and who do not even know what you can and can’t do which I pointed out to someone recently and received an apology from the company. @matty40swhen you see them get them to enquire with Starling Bank which is purely App based. They will need access to the internet and cam as the bank contacts you face to face so to speak for their enquiries.
  7. I spent Xmas in Kingston and walked past that location on numerous occasions watching the life on the river. For me it’s a particularly nice part of the world. For many a year I had wanted to own a boat and moor occasionally at that spot.
  8. Thank you very much for the info. My NB is by WFBCo so it would be nice to chat with them at some stage.
  9. As you are probably of a decent, law abiding nature and not attempting to enter our country on the back of a truck or any other such illegal way and in addition attempting to do it lawfully I would say you have absolutely no chance! ? Only joking, I wish you all the best in your endeavours.
  10. Well it works in Safari on my iPad and I was able to save it in iBooks (that’s the link from mjg)
  11. That looks superb. May I ask who did the sign writing?

  13. I am an Apple convert. Numerous windows laptops sitting around the house which contain data which I can’t access. I have the iPhone, iPad and I have been looking for a MacBook Air. There are plenty of new ones on eBay which go for about £650-£700 and obviously used ones cheaper still. The only reason I haven’t pushed the button just yet is that there are rumours a new version will be announced in June. This is more than plausible as the MacBook air is now quite long in the tooth despite it saying ‘2017’.
  14. I don’t suppose they get many cold callers
  15. I saw a little bit of the programme and read a couple of articles in the press. Allegedly she is an advertising executive on a salary of £100k plus but can’t afford to buy a property in London. Her moorings are £8k, the boat cost £180k and she had to take out a personal loan to get it built. For me the figures didn’t add up but it’s her choice and yes I suspect it will ever leave the marina whilst she owns it. As they say I suppose it’s whateer floats your boat ?
  16. But not everyone wants to be a carrot cruncher. ? I realise you have an aversion to London for whatever particular reason or reasons but for some people needs must. (no offence intended to the carrot ?)
  17. I have a Lee SAN self pump out though I haven’t used it. It came with the boat which is 24v/240v. All I can say is that the motor to power it is huge dimension wise. if you wouldn’t mind posting your address I wouldn’t mind passing bye one day and using your sewer to test it out. ?
  18. Gerry Kelly, a convicted IRA terrorist who is now a Sinn Fein MLA at Stormont and who is on the Policing Board had his car clamped outside the gym he was using. He simply cut the clamp off with bolt cutters. Unfortunately for him the whole event was captured on CCTV. Cost him quite a bit of dosh and embarrassment not that I think it bothered him. i don’t think anyone was surprised by the actions of the murdering scum bag. For the very first time in my life I wanted to pat a clamper on the back.
  19. Totally agree. Our two week holiday later this year is probably costing us the equivalent of two years boating which includes a marina mooring darn sarf. Won’t be doing that in the future. ? Hopefully we will also be using the boat as a pied-a-terre

  21. I totally agree. Shouting, kicking and screaming together with abuse achieves absolutely zilch! I thought the original letter by @nicknorman was polite whilst detailing and highlighting the issue and his concerns. In addition I was particularly pleased to see the person who made the relevant decision acknowledge that the decision was flawed and that she apologised for the error. She deserves credit for that. As they say ‘a man (woman) who never made a mistake never made anything’

  23. I too took early retirement when it became available. I have had two life threatening illnesses in the past 5 years. The first when I was 55. After the first I decided that I didn’t want to be on my deathbed and think “I wish I had done that”. In January I bought a 70ft beauty even though I can’t use it yet. We have just arrived home for medical appointments after 2 months in the marina and we now can’t wait to get on the water in June. Very hard to describe the feeling but even my wife who wasn’t too sure is now a convert. Totally chilled out. All my life I was Mr Sensible when it came to finances and as pointed out already ‘there are no pockets in shrouds and in addition there is no point in being the richest stiff in the graveyard’ Do it, if it doesn’t work out you can sell it but what you can’t do is get back what you didn’t do. Have no regrets! Best wishes whatever you do - retirement is great. ?
  24. I would suggest that this is an absolute nonsense. When they sent you a photo of the sign did they send you a date stamped photo of your boat in situ together with a date stamped photo of the relevant sign together with your boat position in relation to that sign? Exactly how are they going to prove the offence. They did not provide you with a copy of any paperwork created in the recording of the alleged offence/infringement and nothing was left on your boat to indicate that you were not permitted to moor there. Surely this is a breach of natural justice and I’m not really sure how any court would allow a prosecution. Even if they go down the civil route I can’t possibly see how this process would be allowed. I am no lawyer/solicitor but I am pretty convinced of my views. I would look up the use of freedom of information as to how many ‘tickets’ have been issued at that location and the outcome. I don’t know if foi applies to this but as it concerns a public authority I would look it up.
  25. The latest vlog from journey with jono was dreary and too complicated for me as he was changing settings. His previous 2 with regards to him changing to lithium were more interesting and useful for me.
