Smarty = Three.  I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Agree totally.  I had been with 3 for donkeys years.  A few months ago I started getting erroneous bills as apparently I had signed up for a premium rate gaming service.  I’m 60+ so I don’t think so!  I never got anywhere either via chat or phone and them always telling me they would sort it out and reimburse me but somehow they never did.  I made my own enquiries and it was said that 3 was well known for this as their staff in India regularly engage in skullduggery where the customer always is the victim.  I simply moved saving me money on the product and peace of mind.

    This list is quite reasonable

Downloads a pdf from the IIMS (International institute of marine surveyors).

ETA if I had known about "backering" twelve years ago I might have gone for that as an alternative to getting together with a woman and "bickering'.

Horses which can do the towage by themselves sound pretty cool.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

  3. I would like to learn what various items were used for on the old working boats.  I have seen some beautiful photographs of the boats but not knowing the names or the terminology of the items I haven’t a clue what to search for!  Could anyone be so kind As to point me in the right direction of a suitable resource?

    Thank you

    Martin

  4. I've just put the undercoat and first top coat on the roof with Black Country Paints. It's good stuff, very heavy pigment and coverage. It's also about 1/4 the price of Toplac.

I have just spoken with them after reading your post and I have to say they couldn’t have been more helpful. Nice thing is from reading their Webb page is that they are an independent British family business.  Thank you for the post.

I have just discovered Joe's Youtube videos, and can't stop watching! I don't even own a Gardner!

His son also posts some of his work/engines in the Gardner Diesel Engines forum on fb.  Just in case you get bored and need to view more??

  7. Sadly a good friend of mine hired a nb from a marina down the western end of the K&A.  Loved it but said never again due to the lack of mooring spaces as a result of all the flats (boats) moored in anything like an accessible spot.  He was gob smacked at their condition and surprised that some even float?

Will try Tangent although iirc, they are based in Ireland and I need this cover asap.

They are based in NI.  Not the other side of the world?. I know they generally have a number of engines in a state of reconditioning and repair.

what about Redshaw engineering in Braunston.  If they don’t have one perhaps they could make one?

Marine Power Services?  I think that is their name and I think they may be on here.  My memory issues may have got the name wrong lol

  9. There is a YouTube video of a gent putting them on whist repainting his NB.  Sadly I can’t recall his name but it seemed simple enough although a little trial and error.  He even shows how to make a good job of the corners. In addition he shows what the product is.  Sorry for the sketch info but I just came across it by accident

They come out at night when it's all quiet looking for grub. when it goes into it you will hear the trap rocking on the floor. Peanut butter is the ideal bait, a dob of it at the back of the trap so the mouse goes right in.

Poor mouse might have a nut allergy ??

  11. Surely a humane trap is more appropriate?  Why do you feel you need to kill the mouse or rat (other rodents are available on request)?  I apologise if this seems a little harsh but I can’t think of a more pleasant way of expressing my point  or have I missed something why a nipper is actually better?

  12. Personally I would forget about wax because it will probably only last a maximum of 6 months before it will need reaplying and that is for the expansive waxes.  I would apply a sealant and then all you need to do is wash this when and if you want.  It does as it says, seals over the paint or clear coat if one has been applied. A ceramic sealant  generally should last 2 - 5 years dependent on the product and again are easy to keep clean and shiny?

^^^^ This, and, er, this :)

I waxed WotEver too soon, and noticed the cloth getting blue. So I stopped.

There is a blue NB in the marina at Harefield and I wondered if this was per chance your old boat.  Reading this post I suppose it was.  It was looking good??

  13. P&S Marine also blasted and applied a 2 pack epoxy coating to our 70ft NB in 2018.  As the boat hasn’t been out of the water since I can’t comment on the actual coating but subsequently had 2 weeks afloat in the marina there and was able to watch all the work being undertaken on other boats and I have to say I was impressed with them.  No shortcuts and they seemed very thorough.  They all seemed non stop including the welder?

Dear oh dear, I couldn’t have got it more wrong if I’d tried.

But thank you for doing so.  I really enjoyed watching the videos and I suppose it’s easy if you know what you’re doing ??

To be fair before it says Top paddle lock it also says lock 11 which does give us a bit of a clue as to which lock is the faulty one. It's not as though we were left in the dark.

Oi you, don’t try and introduce any semblance of reasonableness into this thread ??

Brilliant!! Hubby and I were just having the old cassette v pump-out discussion last night. He's pump-out and I'm cassette. As a bowel cancer survivor this is a subject that is close to my heart! ? #sharingtoomuchtoosoon

Having had rectal cancer I can heartily recommend a waterless toilet (some call it composting).  So much more convenient and less hassle (also less cost) than the two other methods you mention ?

For all those who like to promote their own personal choice unless you have had bowel or rectal cancer I shall totally ignore any of your responses ?. If it helps I have had both pump out and cassette.
