  1. I'm planning my third narrowboat trip for either September or October 2016. Thank you ALL for your help in planning my last two! Unfortunately, I only have a week to boat this year (10 days vacation total) and was wondering if I should fly to Glasgow and spend time there, then boat from Falkirk to Edinburgh, or vice-versa? OR, spend the entire time narrowboating? Thanks for any suggestions! Michele
  2. The trip was fabulous! The boat was not as "luxurious" as the one we rented last year on the Llangollen, but it was fine. We had a couple of very rainy days, but pushed through and made the trip in 11 days, mostly cruising around 8 hours. Loved Oxford and Banbury. We went back to Banbury because we enjoyed it so much. I worked most of the locks, so I brought my souvenir windlass home (we bought one with a longer handle). I'm already planning next year's trip! Maybe Scotland or a one way somewhere.
  3. Thanks, everyone! We'll be leaving Rugby on Monday, September 29 and returning to Rugby Friday October 10. It's just two of us, so I know we'll be pushing kind of hard. We got a fairly early start every day last year when we did this (same weeks), but the Llangollen had very few locks/bridges. We don't necessarily HAVE to go to Oxford...I just wanted to see it.
  4. We had such a great time last year as first timers on the Llangollen that we decided to do it again this year! We plan to go from Rugby to Oxford traveling for a total of 12 days. Any suggestions where we should stop? We prefer places with pubs (of course). Thanks for all of your help in the past!
  5. I'm two weeks out from my trip on the Llangollen! We'll be going from Trevor to Whitchurch (that's the plan...open to suggestions). Will there be wifi access along the way, or should I rent a mobile hotspot? Thanks, Michele
  6. This visitor from the American colonies has been to the UK a couple of times. Hopefully the pubs provide tastes of Whiskey as I prefer that to ales. But, at some point in the evening, even ales will do! I'm truly looking forward to engaging with the locals!
  7. I just spent a week in London in December, so it's not necessary to go again. How cold are these boats? I freeze easily...I'm a Florida girl!
  8. Nicknorman, there are no physical issues. My fiance informed me that the locks are my job...I hope he's kidding! That does seem to be the right balance! We were planning to arrive in London on a Thursday, then train to the dock on Saturday, returning to London on Saturday. We're still very flexible with those plans, though. Maybe we should fly into Manchester. Our only goal at this point is to see something other than London (and the pubs, of course!) Thanks! Thank you all so much for your replies!! This is great! Any suggestions are welcome. October can't come quickly enough...
  9. I'm planning a one week narrow boat trip in October. We're mostly interested in pubs and villages...and pubs! Any suggestions? I am SO very confused at this point. Thanks for any suggestions!
