  1. My favourite (from Dave Moore) : Painted on the side..... A couple of f***ing frogs with champagne glasses dancing down the cabin side.
  2. Jeez Mike, have you been drinking? Your generosity knows no bounds.
  3. Not in any order but: Harris Kemp Brinklow Norton Canes Otherwise you are compromising and it will eat at you till you eventually go and do it properly.

  5. Found it now under London Boaters. Ta though.
  6. Obviously it's hard to tell without seeing it but it seems to me you've given it a good clean up. I'd just give the paintwork a rub down with scotchbrite to provide a key (especially where you've had some blistering) then use the zinc primer.
  7. I'd go for the latter if possible and eliminate 2 joints. Consider using a grommet or padding the pipe a bit in the bulkhead hole to avoid any chaffing if there is likely to be any vibration.

  9. Here's a nice little boat for sale (currently under offer). 47ft Gardner engine, 2LW Good layout. To me it looks reasonably priced and ticks all the boxes. http://www.aqueductbrokerage.co.uk/index.php/boats-for-sale/boat/luckie_mucklebackit
  10. Cats are supposed to drink milk not beer.
  11. Hopefully this time with more than a ham roll in our bellies to soak up the ale. Good ale though so you have to buy lots to encourage the brewer and help the local economy.

  13. Oh Jeez, I'd better make a confession. We were only trying to help but........ To help BCLM and Kempy out while he was busy, me and Jim went to the museum one weekend and towed that boat back with Gazelle. Now we will just have to sneak it back to them after repairs and hope no one notices we took the wrong one. Keep schtum and we might just get away with it.
  14. Kildare, the historic butty, is currently being repaired by Ian and David Kemp at Dadford's Wharf. If you are on Facebook search under "Ian Kemp Restoration Services" to see photos of the ongoing work.
  15. Judging by this advert the s/h boats for sale then certainly had some character. Not a bus window in sight. Dave Harris' career began at Water Travel. IIRC Whilst still at school he lived on a boat which broke down there and being what he is, he went in and got a job.

  17. John Sanderson (who took over Phill's business) told me that the origin of paint was a particularly hard wearing paint used on a wharf at Ellesmere Port. It was called Raddle Wharf so the name passed to the paint. It's a sort of pinky brick red. It is similar to machine enamel in it's hard wearing properties but mixed to give an eggshell not gloss finish. The name Raddle has since been applied to a similar hard wearing grey paint.

  19. Some of you may know that I sometimes get into trouble with my dad for going in mud. Well that won't happen any more now I've caught him at it. He crashed his bike in Derbyshire and stopped from 30mph in one second / ten yards face down in a mixture of mud and "slurry" (not what he called it). When he got home with his tail between his legs I wanted to hose him down before bathing him in the sink and my mum shouted at him and I barked at him which was great fun. My FB friend, a boxer dog from Sheffield, sent me these: I bet you didn't know dogs enjoyed a bit of shadenfreude.

  21. I've used the Polyvine. It was different in that it seemed more like a straight tinted varnish rather than having the solids content of Ratcliffe's but it grained up OK. The results were fine though and the person I did the job for was pleased. My guess is that if you can use Ratcliffe's you'll get on with Polyvine. Get some practice in on plain boards, then small items, then other peoples boats(!) first. (Aren't I a clever dog)

  23. A selection of clips in different colours that look like bows. I can see well enough to chase squirrels, pigeons and magpies in the garden and catch airborne slices of ham well before they land.
