  1. The Regulations made under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 do not restrict navigation but do , at present, severely restrict movement of people. Unless the navigator falls within falls in the very limited "allowed" category the boat can navigate but not the navigator. Remote control?
  2. That was the year that we and our friends hired William Gladstone, from Acton Bridge. We had intended to do the Cheshire Ring in October half term, but a couple of weeks before the start we had a call from Black Prince. The boat needed a refit at Stoke Priors and winter stoppages meant that if we completed our hire they would not be able to get the boat down to Stoke Priors. So with some additional free hire days we agreed to deliver the boat to Stoke Priors and it had to be via the Severn in view of a stoppage. An adventurous trip including discovering at Stourport that we had no anchor. Not counting the fact that we had been given all the end of season partially full gas bottles and after three days BP had to meet us with a further supply.
  3. The post relates to an event in a hospital. Hospital taps normally have long "arms" designed to operate them using your arms and not hands.
  4. Can I counter this with my experience of Sainsburys. When all this problem started I got an email from Sainsburys telling me that their records showed I was over 70 years of age and would have priority for home delivery/click and collect.
  5. Glad to see that the OP has in fact found the Marina more helpful than suggested. The owners (Castle Marinas) are very clear on their policy: "Castle Marinas has a responsibility to our community and families to enforce the sanctions imposed by HM Government on Tuesday 24th March. To keep the most vulnerable members of our community safe, we are asking all marina users to respect the advice and not to travel to the marina for the time being, unless your boat is classed as your ‘home’."
  6. Assume that the rule does not apply if you have just come out of St Thomas' ?
  7. Brings back the recollection of asking a passing local where the nearest box was. After giving detailed directions she said "give it to me its much too difficult to find". Nice to meet helpful people.

  10. No doubt this will bring out the trolls, but, assuming that the two are of the same family (not subject to the 2m rule), and have no symptoms are they not just carrying out their permitted once a day exercise?
  11. Condemned by their own web site! They seem to have spelling difficulties.
  12. At the start all canals were shut. Movement was only for notified emergencies and you had to contact BW for permission. We were moored out in the country and only discovered the situation when we arrived at Calcutt locks. As our mooring was just below the locks and my wife was due on back on duty (NHS) we were allowed to work down. Later on it became less ad hoc , i.e. your request was logged and then all requests were considered at one time every day to ensure consistency. I seem to remember that reopening was in stages when the disinfectant appeared.
  13. This illustrates why you need to consider things other than price. Traditionally marine insurance policies for craft were written on an Agreed Value basis to avoid this sort of problem. In the last few years some, but not all, marine insurers have moved away from this and amended their policy wording to pay market value. There are still marine insurers providing Agreed Value policies.
  14. Last time I was there (about two years ago) a local CaRT man said that a local resident was complaining about sewer leakage and was trying to get the facility closed down. I assume the present shut down is to establish what is happening but I am surprised if the usual dye testing has not been conclusive.
  15. Very happy to have been moored at Ventnor for the past twenty years. Wait for the trolls to come out from their dark areas and suggest that "moored" means the boat never moved!!

Sometimes CaRT do fail but not on this occasion. Notice issued 22nd Feb @12.10
  17. Premium is not everything. It is interesting to note that the Zurich policy (which appears under various names, including Craftinsure) is no longer on Agreed Value basis which has always applied to marine policies. I say this because I notice that GJW are advertising that they still offer Agreed Value so at least one underwriter is aware of how important this is in facilitating prompt settlement in the event of total loss.

  19. Memory of carrying the cassette alongside all the coffee drinkers to the Elsan at the end of the cafe (don't know how to get the accent on my keyboard!)

  21. I use these, as a sacrificial link, leaving the screw part not fully tightened
  22. "with the intention to reside" If the act is drafted in this way I can see lots of income for our legal friends. Also, off topic, but some are talking about the question of open access land. The National Coastal Path legislation creates all land between high tide and the Path as OA land but excludes houses, gardens, parks and commercial buildings.
  23. Harecastle tunnelkeepers now require you to show that your horn is working before entry. Follows various problems as you need to sound it as emergency signal in tunnel.
