Inverness and Loch Ness - advice please
Naughty Cal replied to magpie patrick's topic in General Boating
They don't fly in the rain either so just pray for persistent rain, which isn't difficult to find in Scotland The NC500 is a very pretty drive. We loved it but again I don't think a whistle stop tour would do it justice. We did it over 16 days, one way, a few years ago and it was nowhere near enough time to stop and see everything that we wanted to see. -
Cloudy diesel and longevity of diesel

We always found that using fuel rather than storing it was the best way to keep it clean! -

I think Caley do a 3 day hire as well. Their boats looked better maintained if not more expensive. We had a very leisurely 10 day one way cruise. Still found plenty to do. That said we could explore places not available to hire boats like anchoring at Dores and the Quay at the Falls of Foye. A 2/3 day cruise would be very whistle stop and IMO wouldn't really do the area justice. -

I can't remember seeing any day hire boats when we were on the Caledonian. -
The drive down there is terrible from our neck of the woods. If it hadn't been we would have moved NC down there. That said we still endure it because we love the area so much. Won't be long before we are heading to Wells again. (Now we have the van we split the journey down into two and head off after work and stop in a car park by the river at Fosdyke Bridge for the night and then set off early and miss the traffic for the second part of the journey. Seems to work much better)

£15 seems like excellent value to stay on a well located city centre mooring.

How's the new boat coming along?

The same kit we bought last month elsewhere online is cheaper than their sales prices

Not quite the same angle of the locks from 2017 And below the sea lock where we stopped for breakfast. We ended up spending a lot longer than expected at the foot of Neptunes Staircase in 2017. The weather turned for the worse and we spent three days on the pontoon mooring at the foot of the stairs. Scottish Canals were very good about it. Our 7 day visitors licence (that we should have paid for but they gave us for free when we entered the canal at Inverness) ran out and they let us have another few days free of charge due to being weather bound. We visited again in 2021 with the van this time. Not much had changed since we had visited by boat.
