  1. Hi I was just wondering if booking was still required through Standedge tunnel. I have had a look on C&RT website but the info on there is for the 2013 season. I seem to think I read somewhere a while back that booking was no longer necessary but I may have dreamt that.... Any one have upto date info? Thanks

  3. It was a worry we had when we got out boat. The cat we have is a rescue cat and we had concerns that he would not take to boating especialy if we were moving around. We kept him in for a couple of days and when we did let him out after that we rewarded him with a treat every time he came back. He soon cottoned on to the fact that he got a treat when he returned and started going out of the open door at one end of the boat and running round the catflap at the other end and then miaowing for his treat. A year on, he has fallen in several times and I think it bothers me far more than it bothers him. He just curls up on the duvet with a typical cat look of 'if I am wet then so are you' He has really taken to living on board now and loves it when we take him on our travels
  4. Hi I found this website good for manuals when I was rebuilding my SR2 http://www.motoren.ath.cx/
  5. Same here. Looked into it several times over the past few years. Took the leap last November. Just wondering why the hell we put it off for so long now
  6. We do this where we are moored. When I am off cruising I am quite happy for my mooring to be used. My neighbour is currently away for a few weeks and is using someone elses mooring and is quite happy to have his used by others. Our CRT mooring manager is happy with this arrangement as long as we text / email to let him know. We do also have short term moorings here, but during busy times it can be difficult to moor near the facilities and personally speaking I enjoy seeing new faces. However, I am aware that not everyone feels the same. I have seen other long term moorers near me moving visitors on and not allowing them to moor up. Not wanting to start an arguament here, but the people that do tend to have a problem with it near me are the ones that I have never actually seen move their boats.
  7. We will also pop in. Planning on mooring up near to Thwaites Mill as we figure it will be a bit more dog friendly than central Leeds
  8. I have found this site helpful for manuals, can't promise yours will be on here but worth a try http://www.motoren.ath.cx/
  9. It says on the plate 'Lister LH150 hydraulic reversing gear' if that is any help Took a couple of photosbut still trying to figure out how to put them on here.
  10. When idling the engine runs perfectly. when gear engaged I seem to be struggling with power, top speed 1-2 mph. Due to windy conditions this is proving awkward for manouverability. Some one suggested it could be the gearbox / clutch settings. Any suggestions on how I can check this and correct it please? Regards Sweeny
  11. My email pinged through on my phone just as I was reading your thread. Just had a flick through it and unlike surveys I have filled out in the past, it did give the opportunity to expand on the answers that I gave. However, it did state that it was an online survey so I doubt if it is avaliable in paper format.

  13. Welcome Tipsygipsy and family
  14. Skipton is only a few days cruise from us and it will be our first major outing so we will definitley be attending even if I have to drag the boat there
  15. Hi, I work with GIS data on a daily basis having staff 'on the ground' using handheld devices to collect information on the contract on which I am currently working. As with everything in life, the data being entered onto these devices is susceptible to human error. The way the hand helds work is by capturing GPS co-ordinates (which assuming the handheld has been set up correctly is usually accurate to within a few meters) and then the person collecting the information fills in the details required. This is where errors can occur.
  16. With 2 of us and the cat moving onto a 40 foot narrow boat, pretty much every thing had to go. Some went to our Daughter who went off to university. Some to friends and other members of the family. Lots to charity shops, freecycle etc. The hardest thing was parting with the stuff from when the kids were younger and such. After giving this some thought we figured it was the memories that these items evoked rather than the items themselves that we were holding onto, so we passed on the items and held on to the memories which were much easier to find room for
  17. 3 x 225Ah (and 1 x 110 just for sump etc) all 12v. We have no mains power but not much electric wise on the boat. Just water pump, lights and tv occasionaly
  18. Many thanks to all of you for your help
  19. Mmmmm....that will explain why I can't find them...... I think perhaps someone is having a laugh at the 'new guys' expense
  20. Thank you for your various replies. I have not had the boat long and so I am still learning. I have just checked the oil and it is a little overfull so that may explain my problem. I don't know too much about marine engines but I believe it is a Lister SR2

    Blue smoke

Hi, I was just wondering if any one had an answer to this. I have a 2 cylinder air cooled lister engine which runs ok (although it could do with new glow plugs aparently) I run it everyday to charge my batteries, however in the past couple of days it has started to put out a bit of blue smoke. This coincided with me filling up with diesel the other day. Is this just a coincidence and could it be something more serious that I am missing?

  23. Text just recieved from daughter who is in Chester 'Just started snowing heavily here. Cold and wet. Missing your taxi service'
  24. Hi All Me and the missus are new to boating, having had our nb just 3 months now (Still waiting for the novelty to wear off). She is not much to look at right now but she is watertight and has a sound engine. She just needs some love to bring her back up to scratch. We have been looking at the possibility of living aboard for a few years and as the kids have moved out we thought it would be a good time to downsize before they decided to move back again We have already learnt loads from this forum and hope to learn more as we settle into this new way of living.
