  1. Thanks for watching the An Abandoned Canal, as you are aware it was really made without any buget at all, and assisted by the lovely people from the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal Trust. I am trying to make more videos that explore English Heritage - will you help me? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1404323738/the-bald-explorers-hidden-heritage Thanks so much for looking.
  2. Thank you very much David. Yes, Mal was a character and I think it would be great to follow him about for a weekend. He apparently sings old canal songs and makes fenders. Also, I gather many a young lass has found her way onto his boat and stayed over night. Thanks so much for watching. If anyone has enjoyed the Abandoned Canal episode I have post the preview of, then please do let the Community Channel know. I am trying to persuade them to fund a series of heritage type films, and maybe more about canals and the people on them, so any feeback to them would greatly appreciated. If you would like to email the Community Channel, please say you have seen a special preview of the episode on the forum, (it isn't on public release yet until they have broadcast it)and your thoughts, etc. Their email address is: info@communitychannel.org Thanks so much. I am sure there are many more canal stories to tell... Richard
  3. Thanks very much - how exciting to have smugglers in your family tree! Is there much smuggling in the canal world? Thanks for watching. I have so much positive feed back. Richard Funnily enough - this exactly what I mention in the script. The monasteries and alternative uses. We are too quick to destroy our history in this modern world. Sadly what we seem to build today doesn't last very long. Sorry, maybe that should be luckily, it doesn't! Richard
  4. So glad you liked it. What made the production for me was talking with Mal Edwards, the old lengthsman. Next, I am onto crumbling churches and whether we should save them or not.
  5. I hope it didn't mar your enjoyment of the rest of the film.
  6. I have just had the official first transmission for this video on the Community Channel, which, along with my other productions are: The First Monuments - Sunday 3rd March 21:00 A Rural Town - Sunday 10th March 21:00 An Abandoned Canal - Sunday 17th March 21:00 www.communitychannel.org Channels - Sky 539 Virgin Media 233 Freeview 87 and BT Vision Thank you very much - most kind.
  7. Thank you very much. I am thrilled people in the know have liked the video. I am sure there are main flaws, but I hope it help promotes the canals and boat owners in a positive light. Richard
  8. Thank you - very kind. I was amazed with a housing estate very close by that it was still intact!
  9. Thanks very much. I agree with the too much 'carrying stuff bit' - but I felt I had to remind many newcomers of the purpose. Unfortunately, TV cannot be too niche.
  10. In October last year (2012) I started filming a documentary about the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal that was abandoned in the 1960s. This is a film to be broadcast on the Community Channel, a national television channel in the UK broadcasting on Sky, Virgin Media, Freeview and available through the BBC iPlayer. The documentary is part on an on going series entitled The Bald Explorer which find me travelling around Britain looking at heritage and history in our landscape. Although the programme hasn't been aired yet and I now a few people on the forums have shown interest, I thought I would post a preview for you to have a look at if you are interested. I would loved to have explored the subject of canals and living on the navigations more fully. There is potentially a bigger series to be made. I would love to hear from anyone who would be interested to explore this further with me. Meanwhile, here is my effort. Hope you like it. Richard Vobes Bald Explorer www.BaldExplorer.com
  11. Hi Carl The Bald Explorer episode where I am exploring the old Shrewsbury and Newport canal should be on the Community Channel either at the end of Feb or March. However here is a preview of it: Best wishes Richard
  12. Hi Tiggers Sorry for the delay replying, been away this weekend. That sounds super. Thanks so much for your offer. I am aiming to be up from Sunday 25th to Thursday 29th. Hoping to be at Norbury Junction to film an interview and then off to shoot so of the abandoned canal. Do you have a phone number or email address I can contact you on? My email is richard@vobes.com. Thanks so much. Glad you liked the Shrewsbury episode. Best wishes Richard
  13. Hi Tiggers, Thanks for looking at my site and my video preview. As you will see I am making a documentary for the Community Channel (supported by Media Trust - a charity station) about the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal and the restoration project. I aim to be filming at Norbury Junction in a couple of weeks. I have meet Simon Jenkins at the wharf who has given me permission to film. I know this a little cheeky, but I am eager to film some boats travelling along the Shropshire Union as part of the video and wondered if I were to pay your diesel whether you might be interested in allowing me to film your boat in action, and/or get some shots from it? If not, and I totally understand, would you know anyone that might be? I am aiming to take a day boat out so I can film some pieces of me presenting a couple of bits of script to the camera at the tiller and going through a lock. Many thanks Richard Hi Water Rat, hope you are well? Do you have a boat now? As you can see I am trying to make a name for myself in the TV world on the Community Channel - no money in it but hoping to get seen as a potential film maker and presenter. I have just replied to Tigger, above your post on the thread to ask if it might be possible to film her boat in action. If I were to pay your diesel would you be interested in allowing me to film your boat in action, and/or get some shots from it? I was aiming to take a day boat out so I can film some pieces of me presenting a couple of bits of script to the camera at the tiller and going through a lock. Could you help? It would be great to see you again. Best wishes Richard www.BaldExplorer.com
