  1. Yes, indeed, I did sort the problem out, but totally failed to update this thread! The thruster eventually stopped working in one direction, so I removed the motor, and the contactors, and took it to an auto electrician in Tamworth! (Auto Electrical Services Units 14-15 Lagrange, Lichfield Rd In Est, B79 7XD) They stripped it down and found one of the brush assemblies was shorting to the mounting plate. All the necessary parts were freely available (from memory most of it is AC Delco stuff) and they reconditioned at very reasonable cost. (£168). They tested the sender unit for the warning light and found it was OK. Everything has worked fine since I refitted the motor - about twelve months ago.
  2. Webasto - on our boat, in the summer, all radiators are turned off and the webasto is on a timer. 30 mins in the morning 0630 to 0700 is enough to heat a calorifier full, for 2Xshowers and washing up etc. Its been set up like this for three years, and doesn't seem to have harmed the Webasto (Thermo top C)!
  3. Surely you are not considering putting a dish on top of that lovely boat!! SkyGo is the way to go with your 100Gb per month Homefi, to start with anyway.
  4. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  5. Looks as though either the laptop hasn't got bluetooth, or if it has - then its not set up. The whiskey idea sounds good..........
  6. Suggest you look up on t'internet the exact spec of the laptop, and see if it has Bluetooth. If it has, then make sure it is on, by sliding the "switch" on the settings page to on. The earphones should also be on and nearby. The laptop settings screen should then show that the phones have been found and ask you if you want to pair, and then connect - which you do. Once set up, the connection should happen automatically in future. If the laptop doesn't have Bluetooth then you can get a plug in module - speak to the computer shop. Sorry, cross posting here! Try clicking on the plus sign to get things going.
  7. Are you certain that your laptop has a bluetooth module inside it? On the settings screen for bluetooth is the little picture of a switch blue? ie "on"
  8. Do the earphone instructions tell you how to turn them on? Usually the light that goes green when charged, goes blue when they are on and searching.
  9. Once they are charged up, and switched on, you will need to pair them with the bluetooth module in the laptop. If the laptop has windows 10, its settings - devices - bluetooth.
  10. Spooky indeed! That's our boat and yes I'm still polishing. Article was by previous owner - and the gist of it was that you'll never loose money on a boat if you keep it polished............
  11. Congratulations! http://gardnerengineforum.co.uk/ ????
  12. Cobb. Expensive but very good indeed.
  13. No, Ebay is your friend, search for 3G 4G MIMO aerial. Make sure the leads are long enough for wherever you are going to site the aerial and the router. The 3 Homefi has Female SMA connectors on the rear, so you need leads or adaptors that terminate in male SMA, not TS9.
  14. If you want radio 4 through a mifi you need a device (typically a laptop, tablet, or smartphone) that is connected (wirelessly usually) to the mifi, and thus on the internet. The device receives R4 from the internet and plays it either through the internal speaker, or through wired speakers/headphones/earphones that are plugged into the device. Alternatively, the speakers/headphones/earphones can connect to the device through Bluetooth, providing both items are Bluetooth capable. If you receive R4 through the internet in this way, it will eat into you data allowance on the mifi, although for audio only its not too bad.
  15. The Homefi is free with a 12 month contract, and £60 with a monthly contract - about the same cost as a mifi from 3. The Homefi has two aerial sockets. I can't see what is "daft" about any of it!
  16. We have just bought a 3 Homefi router. The best deals seem to be available only from a 3 shop, and not offered online. For a monthly contract its £60 for the router and £30 per month for 100Gb. The 12 month contract is £30 per month for 100Gb with no charge for the router. When in use on the boat, the router can be powered direct from 12V, to save using the inverter. We have an external aerial with two connections into the back of the router, and have seen speeds in excess of 50Mb.
  17. Sack it off and fit a webasto thermo top C. We did this about 3 years ago and have not regretted it.
  18. You could try Steve Roberts in Liverpool. I can recommend him.
  19. Is this behaviour coincident with a heavily discharged battery bank? The alternator(s) could be presenting an immediate and considerable load on the cold engine.
  20. You might like to read this old thread on another board http://www.justcanals.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9799 Basically, if the air motor is playing up it is unlikely to be economic to repair. Consider replacement with a Webasto thermo top C or something similar. As said above, Ed Shiers is a very helpful, and knowledgeable expert in these matters.
  21. The E5573s-320 definitely has two sockets. It was available from a Three shop, unlocked, with a pay as you go SIM, for about £60. The current model available from Three is the E5573bs-322 which doesn't appear to have the aerial sockets, but costs £10 more!!
  22. I think it would also be useful to know the number of banks i.e. domestic, starter, bowthruster - and how the banks are connected together when charging i.e. switch, relay, VSR, split diode, smartbank.
  23. I can recommend http://www.quietpc.com for computer fans. They give details of the flow volumes for the fans they sell, so you can compare with the mains ones. you can also see the power requirement and noise figures. I have no connection with themj other than being a satisfied customer.
  24. As you have three banks, and three sources of charge (Solar, Alternator, and charger) I would consider fitting two voltage sensing relays, which will connect the banks together when any source of charge is available. A more expensive way of doing it would be a Smartguage, Smartbank and two relays - which we have had on our boat for the last four years, and found to be most effective.
