  1. I guess if the boat doesn't fit through the br idges you are excused the need to do bona fide navigation under the 'reasonable in the circumstances' part of the 95 Act.

  3. If you had a nice little heavy windlass you could have clouted her with it.
  4. I feel bad now. The balloon who went to school with a pin. There are no walls in boats by the way. Just bulkheads and partitions.
  5. The last time this happened it played havoc with my premiums. They had to pay out £3m per victim which was not really what they were expecting. It almost bankrupted the unsurance company and the man in charge had to wait an extra 13 months before he could get a new BMW. All for the sake of a small non specific threaded nut.
  6. I've ordered a bowl with no drain. Whack that on job done. Then put the original one back on and die in an awful inferno which also kills 27 children on a towpath walk expedition plus their teachers and the ambulance driver. It is about 8mm outside diameter but I didn't have my dial caliper to measure it. I suppose it does make sense it would be a normal thread size but there was something funny with it. The female thread type on the cav filter bodies is described as 7.8mm but they don't say what thread it actually is. 5/16 unc I guess. Stainless single piece dome nut ordered to cover all the angles. The problem is that 5/16 unc is not 7.8mm it is 7.9mm. This could be a silly thread I think. Someone must have established what is going on with these things. I know this is the opposite type but if this was a UNC thread why would they not mention it ? Seems a strange way to describe a thread. To me it looked more coarse than a UNC.
  7. They look like hydraulically driven archimedes screw propellers. I think these are for propulsion use in very shallow or badly fouled water.
  8. The plastic cap has a little pin in the centre which locates into that hole so if it was drilled to pass the BS then it could never be used as designed. It doesn't rely on a sealing washer as designed.
  9. 4.2mm and an m5 tap might work Bit tempted to get a new bowl with no drain and leave this one unmodified as it is a very nice drain arrangement.
  10. That is an idea. I suppose just an M5 tap or something and a little stainless bolt would sort it.
  11. This Has failed the BS inspection. It isn't a normal CAV type as the thread on housing is male. Does anyone know what the thread is and if there is a metal version of this as the BS does not want plastic. The filter body says CY on top of it. I wonder if I need a whole new filter body. Or maybe replace bowl with one without drain plug. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183175795973

  14. Steel cabin. There is a really interesting wooden boat in the bushes below Marlow lock on the Thames. It has been there for about 3 yars now and does not look all that cared for. I assume someone checks it now and again but by no means certain. Teak hull and a steel cabin. It is a belligerent floating boat. Quite a nice boat really possibly ex naval pinnace. This is how one describes quality old wooden boats one is not sure about. Gardner 5LW in it. The cabin is the key on a lot of wooden boats.

  18. I think @Jennarasion might be a woman. i still like the idea of wooden boats being 'difficult'. The terminology made me smile.

  20. I think the OP in this topic may have been talking about a different sort of wooden boat. An old broads cruiser would be my random guess as these arrr frequently offered for sale as 'liver bored' boats. They turn you to drink.

  22. Boating with a block and tayckle(correct pronunciation) sounds a lot more fun than boating without. I carry a lugall winch and yars ago had a nice Tirfor on the boat but rarely needed it. I suppose if the canals fall into disrepair over time these things might be needed once again and it will be a fusiasts paradise.
  23. Jabsco do a pump which is equivalent to a Whale Gulper. It might be alright but I have retired to the bunker in case of incoming. https://www.jabscoshop.com/marine/pumps/sink-shower-drain-pumps/50880-1000-self-priming-diaphragm-pump-12-volt-dc.htm Not cheap.
