  2. Thank you for that pic, I often wondered if anything survived, but this is the lock near Leeming Bar on the Beadle Beck, not Topcliffe?
  3. Another “new member” spamming links to Amazon?
  4. Sutton Flood Lock. There used to be several more locks on the river than exist today, remains of several of them can still be seen.
  5. 50291-2 does not automatically mean certified for use on boats, it’s an option in the standard and you need to check the small print to be sure. I had one -2 version which wasn’t.
  6. I didn’t find it necessary, all the organisations I dealt with were perfectly happy with an account in my name (I was sole executor), and most paid out by BACS transfer. I think there were only one or two cheques, and for those the forms asked who the cheque should be payable to.
  7. When I was selling my father’s house, the whole thing ground to a halt in some sort of stalemate, and I ended up ringing the buyer’s solicitor to get her to tell me exactly which piece of paper she believed she had not received from my conveyancer (my original solicitor having gone bust shortly after being instructed!), so that I could then tell my conveyancer to supply it. After agreeing that we weren’t officially having this conversation because she wasn’t allowed to talk to me, she told me what was missing. It was a form I had filled in several months previously... Probate? Fiddly but straightforward. HMRC IHT helpline are very helpful. HMCTS less so.
  8. This is fine for what is expected to be a 12V system, but the more general guidance if one is not sure of the voltage, would be to start set at the maximum range (in this case 600V), and work down to a sensible. Perhaps this is a bit old fashioned and less of a problem with digital meters, it was very applicable to meters with moving needles.

  11. BSS Check 8.4.2 (Requirement) just says “Curtains, blinds and other textile materials near all appliances must not show signs of heat damage such as scorching or burning.”
  12. I have the sort of double pole centre-off rotary input selector switch, as found on many boats, to route either the shore supply or the inverter output to the sockets, carefully labelled with a 230V warning sign. It hadn’t occurred to me that with the shoreline plugged in and the inverter switched on, there is actually 400V inside the switch enclosure!
  13. Yes they are, thanks, fixed my post
  14. All those mentioned on the T&M itself (apart from Black Prince at Acton Bridge) are “as close to the Bridgewater as possible”, but if you are bringing a boat by water from Lancashire, all of them are the wrong side of the landslip stoppage between the Anderton Lift and Barnton Tunnel, which will reportedly take some months to fix, and that may impact your “as soon as possible”. Unless you go the long way round via the Macc.
  15. The coal basin at far right was Clark’s Basin, and this building at the entrance just about survives incongruously outside a new hotel - there was a big fuss about 20 years ago when demolition was proposed. https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/File:JD_Clarkes_Basin.jpg
  16. Thanks, ordered a few samples. I’m after something very thin, not wood core) to replace some ancient vinyl without too much alterations. I see both of those do 4mm versions, which might be ok.
  17. Doh, kinda obvious name Thanks, was after real world boats experience rather than just random Googling
  18. What’s the proper name for the thin rigid plastic board material that some folk use to line shower cubicles? thanks
  19. Conversion from steam to electric operation took two years, during which the lift was out of action for a total of 49 days.
  20. Scrub that. Close, but not quite. Closest I can find is Folio Extra Bold
  21. It looks very close to Impact, which is about the right age. https://fontsinuse.com/uses/25213/the-impact-of-impact-typeface-advert-brochure
  22. Six person-days per tank for us, so every other day when there were three of us, every other other day now there are usually two of us.
  23. Yes, that’s the usual starting position for coming down, letting water flood over the gates is frowned on. You bring a lockfull down with you.
