  1. Hi I have an old Smev LPG cooker and one of the burners doesn't stay on when releasing.the knob. Any ideas on the prob and can it be fixed.
  2. Ok. So not sure what's going on with my inverter. It's a Mastervolt mass combo 12/1200_60 for the record. I've been using it every day for the past couple of weeks to use with a sander prior to painting boat. Then 2 days ago it fired up for a couple of seconds then went off and didn't come back on. It's done the same thing twice more , the lights come on briefly then go off even when the engine was turned on. I thought the batteries might not be holding a charge so turned everything off to check voltage. So at 10 pm the charge was 12.8 and 7 am the following morning they were still 12.8.v I disconnected the solar panels and the batteries from each other and checked them individually and they were all 12.9v. So my question is . Batteries or inverter on the blink. Anyone.?
  3. Ok , so, cruising down Oxford towards Thames and then Kenney and Avon to Bath. Is it worth the trip to Lechlade or give it a miss. Any thoughts or tips on cruise. 56ft NB.
  4. Thank you both for your input. Because the sensor cable has been served will I need to replace it.
  5. Hi I have a mastervolt inverter charger and recently noticed that the temperature sensor wire had somehow been severed. When traced back to the engine bay I found that it wasn't connected to anything but on the end there was a small box marked battery. The inverter seems to work perfectly well although the starter battery to the Mastervolt generator has gone flat. So my question is. Does this sensor cable have any bearing on the inverter performance.?
  6. Hi Richard It's a mastervolt whisper 3.5 about 7 years old. I'm not too bothers about a new battery as I can jump start off my engine starter battery, so I'm happy to know your panel wasn't affected. Thanks for your reply.
  7. Although the battery on my whisper generator is only a year old it's not holding a charge. I was told that the control/ display panel would go blank and have to be reset if it doesn't receive a charge within a week or so. Does anyone know if this is the case.
  8. Thanks jellybeano ,all sounds positive.
  9. Thanks NB Eclipse. We need to stay 3 nights before going into Stanley docks on Monday. Your advice is priceless.
  10. Going into Liverpool link shortly but hoping to moor up before entry to dock. Can't get any information from c&rt about eldonian moorings but have suggested I stay at litherlands visitor moorings. Has anyone had any experience of this.

  12. There are a lot of responsible dog owners out there. My issue is specifically with joggers with dogs. They run ahead to leave the dog to catch up and have no idea what the dogs up to.
  13. I thought that might get your attention. But I don't mean that type of dogger I'm talking about joggers with dogs (doggers). How on earth can they clean up after their pets when they jog a100 yards in front of them, they hav'nt got a clue what their pets are depositing on the tow path, and therefore no intention of picking the crap up. Put the dogs on a lead and as soon as their dog stop for a crap it'll stop them in their tracks, and hopefully they will clean up.
  14. Thanks folks, all useful tips.Solar it is then.
  15. Ok, so I'm seriously considering having solar panels fitted, probably a 300w system. Which I'm hoping will reduce the running cost of the engine and give me peace of mind when leaving the boat for a couple of weeks.I know this will only charge my leisure batteries so will need to run engine or generator occasionally to charge starter battery (not sure how often). I'm advised that it might be wise to replace leisure bank as I'm not too sure of there age. Can anyone give me any advice and reassure me that it's money well spent. I am and will be a continuous cruisers for the next 5years.
  16. Lifeboats right. People seem to assume that I didn't moor properly. I drove 4 stakes in as far as possible but due to the amount of rain we've had recently the ground is very soft. Stakes may not be the best solution but in this case it was the only solution. If boaters were more considerate when passing moored boats and slowed down the stakes are more likely to hold. By the way Graham your right. Age hasn't got anything to do with it. I've learnt that people can be arrogant at any age.
  17. I'm moored on grand union just south of Watford and of the10 or so boats that passed today all bar 2 were going too fast. One in particular was going at full speed and the resulting tidal wave ripped my front mooring stake straight out and sent the font of my boat centre of the cut. The worrying thing about this is that all the boaters were about 60+..c'mon have a bit more consideration.
  18. Thanks for reply. Am I right in assuming that you need a heater to help with composting process.
  19. Thinking of having a composting toilet fitted asap. Don't really mind which as long as it works and I don't have to find an Elian every few days to empty it. I believe they have a small heater fitted to speed up proccess. Therefore would a small solar panel be of use for this purpose.
  20. Ok, sounds like I've got same set up.Puts my mind to rest that I'm doing the right thing and won't wake up with flat batteries. Thanks again for all your input I'm looking forward to becoming a c cr.
  21. Thanks for all your help. It's a combo inverter charger so I believe that when the generator is on the inverter will automatically switch off.
  22. Ok. So I bought a boat a few months back which has a mastervolt battery management system fitted with a 2kw inverter and a 3kw generator. Since then the boat has been moored in a marina hooked up to the shore power. I've since retired and very shortly will start to cruise the cut. Now I thought I was clued up the system but for some reason have created some confusion in my head as to the use of the inverter and could do with some info to clear my mind. Am I right in saying that when on the move the inverter can be switched off due to the alternator charging the batteries but would need to turn in on if any 240 was used.ie TV or other low wattage equip. Also when using the generator for say washing machine can the inverter be on or off. Thanks for any input to end my confusion.
  23. Thanks for reply peter, have you got an email address I can contact you on.
  24. Hi,I'm thinking of chainging my porta potti and was informed that you can install a composting toilet that apparently has no odour and only needs emptying a couple of times a year. I know they can be expensive but sound worth every penny.Has anyone got one and what are the cost of installing etc.?
