  2. The update quoted was 8th March - that's pretty well up to date!
  3. According to ‘Chugabug’ there is a sensibly priced marina up near Hinckley.

  6. Another vote for the Salamander Hobbit - ours came with the boat - had been used and abused for years, but after a really good clean has been fine, other than the riddle device which has seized solid.

  8. You might want to change the title of your query!
  9. Mine was a Southampton made engine and never caused any problems - wish I still had it. Have a BD3 in one boat and a Petter PH2W in the other - similarly no problems but out of the 3 I’d rather have a DM2
  10. It may well still get burned but in a more useful way.
  11. You mentioned hydraulic AND tea hut! That’s grounds for a license refusal. And in response to MtB’s comment, after all the enjoyable years I’ve owned and cruised narrowboats, on the rare occasions I may need assistance in order to continue doing so, I’ll take the help. Mostly it’s done well, but I’m not complacent about it.
  12. You let them drop as well then?! I'll admit, I will take any help I can get going up (or down) Hatton. 21 narrow locks in one go is still OK but going up Hatton last year was almost too much at my age. And if the Oxford is still shut beyond April, we will have to go that way. It didn't help that every lock was against us and we saw no other boats or any vlockies from bottom to top!
  13. Just to expand on this a little, is there a list anywhere that informs on when and where Vlockies will be on any given day?
  14. The fence is holding the rest of England from slipping into the cut (or what was the cut).
  15. Another vote for Captain Tolly’s - and don’t forget to put some on each of the screws that hold the various apertures to the roof. With hot weather and brass screws going into steel they are an obvious possible problem area.
  16. Whoops! Quite right, I was looking at the wrong bit of Google Earth. For some reason I was looking at the bit west of Rose Narrowboats rather than east.
  17. Fingers crossed the other bank at Easenhall doesn't fail, that IS the railway!

  20. I haven't been to this particular pub, but I don't understand the attitude that if you get a poor meal, you should give them a second chance. If I pay full price for a poor meal that's the only chance they get, and if it is complete rubbish they don't get paid.
  21. If you need legal representation O.J. Simpson had a fairly good team.
  22. Just to update - batteries stayed topped up, after 3 months (end of december) I waited in trepidation for the first bill. Kept asking at every visit, finally got told the other day that they don’t send out bills for under £1 ! So although there is a fairly small solar setup, together with the mains charger it is doing well - I can cope with 70p every 3 months. Cheap peace of mind.
