  1. No not at all. But I think the default pass on the right is important for making a quick response to avoid collision. I guess it was the Coleshill Road Bridge? Occasionally when crossing between locks in a short pound I have had the other boat signal to cross wrong side for whatever reason. They’ve stuck out their left arm and my response is a raised hand or thumb.
  2. Keep to the right. Simple. Sounds like you put your boat across to the left then struggled to get back on to the right? If you had just stayed to the right 🤷‍♀️ I think your keenness to be helpful may have proved unhelpful. Dunno, weren’t there. Don’t really care. Enjoy
  3. Boaters NEVER use appropriate horn signals. But I think 2 quick hoots would have been the appropriate signal? Exactly that
  4. I find vigorous waving confusing and ignore it. ”didn’t you see my vigorous waving?” I get asked. ”yes, and you looked like a crazy monkey so I ignored you”
  5. I brushed on first coat and rollered on the second. Just don’t overload the brush, I think I used a 4” brush, but I have a much smaller area to cover than yourself. It may also be stating the obvious but wear goggles and gloves. And, presuming you’re lying on your back, lay to the side of where you’re painting above, so don’t paint above yourself. If that makes sense. The fumes off my paint were horrible, so paint up wind if possible and reposition yourself under the unpainted section. I don’t think a wallpaper brush would be ideal, the proportion wouldn’t be right. Wouldn’t hold enough paint properly. But 🤷‍♀️try it and see. Or perhaps do as Mike above suggests.
  6. I’d be tempted to give them a ring and ask if they’re able to make any sort of a refund. The worst they can say is no. I would have gone without a license for the 2 days.
  7. Yea, I got the same one, on dmr’s advice. I ordered and paid for the single output charger but they found they had none in stock so sent me the 3 output version at no extra cost. 👍 I like that the Bluetooth offers the ability to easily change between normal and high charging. After the boat had been standing still for a year, one of the outputs was great for charging my starter.
  8. I came through a swing bridge on the Leeds Liverpool and there were 2 lads waiting to jump on my boat. I gave them a bit of a smile and gently shook me head and said don’t do it. So they jumped on the boat coming through behind me 😂😂
  9. I remember meeting a boater who immediately told me what a tough time they’d been having. Listing all the places where they’d been stoned or sworn at. When I said other than on the rare occasion I’d never come across much bad behaviour. She accused me of calling her a liar and began a fair abusive rant. I turned my back and walked away while she carried on hurling abuse. Yep, I thought, I can see why you get a hard time. 😂 (I’m not for one moment suggesting the same of you Philip.)
  10. I wouldn’t have thought mooring at Autherley would be problem. It’s simply I like to get to Brewood. Usually from Wolverhampton, and that’s a comfortable stint of boating on me own. Other than stopping for an ice cream or the water tap at Autherely, I didn’t think there was much to stop for? Mind, I didn’t know there was a supermarket nearby. There’s the club I’d like to try where they sell the diesel before the junction. If it’s still there.
  11. It’s been said there’s a financial pinch. Maybe we need a tV program to show us how to save the pennies? Stich our own clothes, that sort of things, use egg shells to tile the bathroom wall. Should help the engine guzzlers no end. Get them back out speeding the harbours 👍
  12. Tax payers seems happy to pay for houses to get grants for solar panels, and for insulation and all manner of things why not for residents on boats, whether in london or anywhere?
  13. Brewood is usually my first stop on the Shropshire Union for the pub and the washing machines. Safe visitor moorings there and I think circular walks through fields around the village. But the Shroppie is safe throughout and being rural I guess ideal for dog walking.
  14. I’m investing more time and plenty of money in getting my solar up graded. And learning how to monitor the batteries better. (Just ordered a battery monitor.) So hopefully I’ll save a few quid over time by charging more with solar than diesel.
  15. That was my line of thinking too. But, when you say a proper mooring.. It’s really a temporary mooring and not a permanent mooring. Certainly not permanent for a single boat.
  16. As a scenario; my Nan has house backing on to the canal. I tie up for a few nights and move off. owt wrong with that?
  17. I’m (hypothetically) on about mooring for a few days and moving on, do CRT object to that?
  18. What’s a neural network? Just googled it, and it blew my brain more than trying to fathom out solar panels.
  19. Can you still stay for 14 days ? The 14 day rule applies to both sides of the bank? Or no? If given permission by landowner on the none towpath side could I stay for a fortnight?
  20. 👍 are there anymore gatherings/parades on the offing ? I like the BCN, if I’d known it were on I’d have made me way up there and foregone the delights of the Ashby Canal. 😃
