now I don’t mind fisherists so much on a lock landing IF they know what’s what, the odd few I’ve encountered have accepted they’re in the wrong place and lift their rods and shuffle back, I’d rather fisherists on a lock landing to other boats, tourists dangling their feet or the deckchair folk …the thought of a vegan chocolate bar is quite a shocking, how’s that work? the Flapper had a beer on the other week advertised as vegan, no fish bladders in the making I guess, which isn’t that unusual, 🤷‍♀️

we’ve travelled together many times and with a 70+ footer like yours you’ve always managed somewhere. sometimes I get the small space and you moor to the outside 😃 get yourself south and test moorings to the limits !

Was just a thought, why not extract more money from the majority rather than the minority. it’s be more fruitful. 🤷‍♀️

a deliberately argumentative question : why can’t the 9% NCAA contribution be doubled ? or even tripled? if 4 in 5 boaters have a home mooring then wouldn’t it make sense to increase their contribution to raise CRT funds?

but I think it might need a more regular painting when using lime, the farm house where I lived in Cornwall was painted every summer. Wow it was bright once painted! Sunglasses needed 😎

personally and honestly, whilst I might take a cursory look at another boat and perhaps wonder about them, generally I shrug my shoulders and move on. I really do. It’s not my call. I’ve other stuff to fill my head space with. I believe CRT are more aware than we might give them credit for. I’m now meeting boaters who are being told they’ll only be getting a 6 month license unless they move and cover more mileage. And these boaters take it seriously and are moving. Sometimes moving excessively to prove a point. I’ve said it earlier in the thread I’m looking forward to going back through London to test how easy or difficult it is to moor and find out how boaters manage or not to follow the 14 day rule in such a congested area. I think that’s a very good post and needs to be read again. It may not change the minds of the die hard bring back hanging brigade on here but for folk out there reading and not posting it might offer them a well written view on things to mull over.

Quick Google throws up some images of what it may have looked like Samuel Smiles book on Wedgewood is a good read. I vaguely remember the story of Wedgewood having his leg cut off at the age of 37(?), he’d put it off for years but eventually accepted it had to come off. and didn’t he copy a piece of Etruscan pottery so exactly that it was impossible to tell the difference between the two?

have you visited by boat and if so what’s been your experience? genuine question not looking to argue. I found coming through to Paddington there were at least two stretches of visitor moorings left unoccupied. I’ll have to look on map to say exactly where but if I remember right both before reaching the Paddington arm for the Basin. It seemed much more congested in the Eastend. I was surprised how lock landings (bar one) were left free and water points were not squatted. Possibly the amount of tourists was a little irritating. Sitting in the way at lock landings with the obligatory coffees (when they should have an ice cream with flake) and of course when someone is moving they have all day to do the one lock 😂 in a lazy cool continental what’s the hurry manner, “But Ive come from Cowley mate and want to get to Limehouse.” where’s Cowley ? they say.

I’ve heard the many horror stories of Tottenham. When I came through Tottenham lock on Monday it absolutely threw down the rain and the wind blew fierce. Worst 10min of weather I’ve experienced when boating but kind of fun. And I lost me cap to the wind. Had no choice to sit for 10min while it blew itself out. And then bright sunshine! On my return journey I’m looking forward to seeing more of the London boating and finding out how it all ‘works’. I’m interested in spending time at Hackney Wick. And perhaps St Pancreas. Any pointers, recommendations or advice is welcome 👍

Ok …in that case there is a knot that will shorten a rope and then easily un pull. Dunno what the knot is mind. my gunnels are quite low and often go beneath a concrete ledge, I keep a small wheel which does the job of keeping me off.

what happened there then? any tips, in hind sight was there something you could have done to avoid it? Ive had bikes pinched off the top purely because I’d neglected to lock them once once in Brum and once in Nottingham why are you such an angry man? the earlier comment was regarding the apparent friendliness of the London boaters in response to someone who might be nervous/cautious/wary about mooring next to them. Exactly so, and why people always connect an overstayer with the NBTA always puzzles me, especially as overstaying will inevitably increase when home moorers come out for the season,
