  1. It doesn't matter, however that one does have a mounting hole, so put something in the hole. Better still buy a proper exhaust from here https://mvheating.co.uk/product/22mm-exhaust-system/
  2. Having spent a week at Thrupp whilst waiting for the K&A to reopen during August, the moorings are mostly vacated by 9.30, but full again by 3pm. You need to be early to get a spot. Get the train from Lower Heyford into Oxford, loads of secure moorings available. However I also had no problem getting a mooring in Oxford after I got tired of the Thames. Southcote lock!
  3. My experience of trying to get CRT to move a boat that has moored up on the offside has been fruitless. This boat has been there over a year and therefore must have managed to get a new license! Give up your mooring and go somewhere else, life is too short to deal with this, it's just a recipe for stress.
  4. I had a full back to metal repaint 7 years ago. The only place the paint has failed is on the very rear door hinges about 2 years ago. I can see the paint lasting many more years with nothing more than chip touch up and polish.
  5. I found this thread before I went on the Thames for the first time a few weeks back. I was a little bit worried, I shouldn't have been, every tap I used had already been 'adapted'. No problems at all.
  6. The Thames lockies were saying at least another week and the latest CRT update suggests similar. Its almost like CRT are delighting 'in the damage caused by a boater' on their Twitter feed.
  7. Anyone caught in this able to provide a local update, are there many queuing downstream (above Fobney)?
  8. There has recently been a tow path clear up and the scrap yard feel has been reduced a little. Although there are still some boats that have adopted the offside at Avoncliff and CRT seem powerless to move them on.
  9. Just for balance, I have the same system installed in the calorifier return, essentially because it was a neater installation given my engine bay layout and I was worried about restricting the main cooling flow. If i leave the rad valves fully open then yes it over cools the engine, but that also cooks the cabin. To keep the temperature down, after balancing the rads, I then wound them down more, to reduce the flow to keeps the rads at a sensible continuous background temp. Even in mid winter sat at idle on lock landings it doesn't over cool a beta38 - once the engine and calorifier are up to temp. However Nick's solution is better and more automated. I couldn't boat with our it, especially in winter, keeps everything so dry. You need to think carefully how you control your eber heated calorifier loop, otherwise you are cooling you calorifier, use valves like Nick says with two pumps and keep the 2nd calorifier loop in the eber zone. Draw it out. Alternativly Webastos have a relay that operates at +40 degrees that can be used to open a 12v valve, don't know if ebers have the same.
  10. You have his photo, you will probably be able to identify him from a quick search of the local parish councillor or community speed watch pages.
  11. As others have said timing is everything in August. For Grindley arrive late in the evening and moor up, then drag yourself out of bed at 7am, do the locks when no one around, then moor up and have a relaxing breakfast and watch the chaos as everybody else turns up. When you leave Llangollen basin, wait for someone else to go first who have a few crew, then tuck in behind and let them do all the faffing through the narrows.
  12. Can those in the know summarise what content should be included to ensure an objection is effective as possible. Or is it just a case of summarising the Uttoxeter canal trust mail?
  13. Responsible, two guys making a living. The only canal boating vlog that doesn't make me cringe, enjoy watching them.
  14. Drain the water down open up the mushroom vents to maximum, arrange all the soft furnishings so that that have minimal horizontal flat surfaces, open all the cupboard doors. No heating, just ventilate, if the inside environment is closely maching the outside then you won't have any issues. You either box in, dehumidify and heat, or ventilate and do nowt, the latter has worked for me for the last 8 years. It's a choice.
  15. The webasto pump will be fine. Install a valve on at least one side of the Kuranda and use them to balance the system as per normal radiators. Once installed you will have to adjust the installed radiators to get everything to heat up in a balanced way. However if you want to use the Kuranda for 'fast' or 'localised' heat then you may want to install a quarter turn valve so that you can fully open it and effectively short circuit the other radiators so it receives all the heat for a while. And it doesn't matter where you install it, but for best performance install across the main 22mm flow and returns, best to avoid teeing into a take off at smaller diameter.
  16. Yes, but be mindful that with the fan on these radiate a lot of heat so you might be disappointed as it could blow cold quite quick unless it has all flow from the Webasto. You will just have to try. May be worth a temp setup to try first. Not sure what you mean by the question.
  17. Connect in as though it is a normal radiator. If you want to add a heat exchanger then see lower left of diagram. To avoid double pass of water through cali when running engine heat then use webasto which has an output for running a fan (when in an automotive installation) to drive the valve open when it is operating at >40 deg. Others will say using cali feed will over cool the engine. Careful setting of the system prevents this, I.e. turn flow rate down on radiator side.
  18. It's an "anti jemmy/jimmy" Yale lock. Very common in the US. EBay.com.
  19. If you have fuel starvation the unit will slow the circulation pump down and the entire system never gets up to temperature, but still runs. Check your fuel lines as others have said.
  20. Yes, this exact one. Given the issue you have, the software would be the least cost route as you can read the fault code and exercise the pump via the heater. Do you have a fuel filter, if not you may have some rubbish in the pump, take the pump off and give it a good shake. If the CD is an issue, ask the seller to email you it. The software is also available to download from various sources.
  21. 43 quid on eBay, with software. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224140130964 Sounds like pump issue, the software is quite helpful.
  22. Glad you got it working again?
  23. These units need three things, air, fuel and power to get started and to run. Assuming your air supply is okay (standard silencer, no non-standard filter element) then the other two need to be checked first. 1. Power supply is the easiest. Check the voltage at the unit and check it is closely aligned with your battery voltage when the unit is trying to start <0.5v difference and >12v at worst. Try starting the webasto with the engine running if you have no voltmeter. 2. Fuel, remove a joint between the fuel pump and unit and feed into clean and clear jam jar or similar. Start the unit and check that the fuel pump pumps clean fuel into the jar. If not check fuel filters etc., if unsure how to do this search on YouTube. If you have cleaned the fuel filters, then you need to prime, so start heater repeatedly until fuel is pumped into the jar again. You may have to remove heater fuse if the heater locks out. Once you are happy that clean fuel is being pumped reconnect hose. Start the heater with engine off and listen and watch exhaust. 3. If the heater fails to start with a white/grey smokey exhaust with pulses without smoke, then start it again as you have flame, it may start. If you have a continuous smoke stream from your exhaust, remove the air silencer, obtain a short section of hose long enough so that you can use it to blow into the heater air inlet and see the exhaust. Start the heater and when the pump starts to pump and the heavy smoke appears, blow into the hose to increase air flow into the heater, don’t go mad, just steadily exhale, if the exhaust pulses then you have some combustion, keep trying. Be careful, don't inhale, and don’t over do it. 4. If that fails, go on YouTube and find a video to service it yourself or send it to a man that can, or call in a professional. 5. If you get it started and you have not found a voltage or fuel issue be mindful that you may still have a problem. If you get it started run it for as long as you can. Search on the Land Rover Discovery and BMW X5 forums for more advice.
  24. A five year old on a scooter has a wonderful calming effect on cyclists, they slow right down and have to almost stop ?. I try to keep one behind and one up front to ensure I can walk in safety along a busy towpath on a Saturday afternoon.
  25. Anyone got a photo showing the outboard? I was laughing to much to take a photo when I passed it a few years back. I remember it being huge! Just seen they have one in the advert, looks smaller than I remember.
