  1. The Liverpool DUKWs were an accident waiting to happen. You don't have to be an engineer to see that the structural integrity of those 'hulls' were seriously poor The London DUKW's had been extensively refabricated and strengthened. I wonder if using thicker plate than the original design compromised its bouyancy
  2. I refuse to answer that question on the grounds of self incrimination We've got a pretty tight schedule to keep. We have to be at Upper Heyford for New Years Eve and back to Thrupp for the 4th Jan
  3. Looking at the patchwork on the hull, I'm amazed that they managed to stay afloat as long as they did I think the bilge pumps worked harder than the engine!
  4. Don't you think there's enough silt in winding holes without people putting a bucket full of silt a day in to them
  5. It will not be the first time it will have happened (when it does happen again) ............. I am in so much trouble
  6. I think you'll find that young Bones has been there and got the Tee shirt, but will almost certainly return there I will await the tale
  7. This is Bones we're talking about here........ ............... of course it will be a pig of a job ................. shall I put A&E on alert?
  8. "Carinya" 62' Steve Hudson - green, portholes. Took ownership on 1 Dec, but because Napton's been shut for work, this is the first opportunity we've had to take her home to Thrupp

  10. Back on Topic............. We're boating on Christmas Day The plan is to set off Christmas morning Our first outing in the new boat leaving Crick bound for her new home at Thrupp. Fingers crossed that Napton will open (scheduled for this Friday)
  11. And that would be a perfectly reasonable thing to say as far as I'm concerned
  12. I used to CC and then decided I want to stay in one place. What did I do? - I got off my arse and got a permenant mooring - at the going rate and did not expect to get it on the cheap. I did not set up in one place and then want to make a community mooring
  13. We'd all like that Why should this group get it for any less than the rest of us?
  14. An interesting topic The 'new' boat has got a LPG leak detector fitted and I was looking at it at the weekend The installation is a bit strange. The alarm unit (inc sounder) is fitted in a cupboard under the sink and the wires to the detector head go under the floor in to the bilges Given that the floor is fairly well sealed with floor boards and carpet etc, and that all of the gas pipe work is above said floor boards and carpet, I wonder how effective it would be in the event of a leak? How much gas would build up in the cabin space before enough seeped under the floor to set off the alarm?

  16. The conundrum about whether to have separates or combi would for me depend on how ‘fixable’ they are. If I had a combi and either the charger or the inverter failed, would you fix it/get it fixed or just get a new one? If you sent it away for fixing, you’ve lost both units How much do you need it? Do you have other sources of charging/ac power?

  18. Only just picked up on this thread The exact same symptoms the OP has described was the initial reason for inspecting my mates JP It resulted in this: A trip down the tow path with the crank and rods off to the machine shop for a regrind and new main and big end bearings Hope your inspection goes well
