  1. Trojan T 105's and a hydrolink watering system. Job done
  2. With the lack of detail provided, I would think it'd be not worth much more than its scrap value. The injectors appear to be missing (but may be in the box of spares). The injector holes could have let water in to the cylinder heads/bores. The fuel pump has had the injector pipes cut off and again may have let water in to the fuel pump. All expensive/difficult to source items. It doesn't actually say if it turns over or is seized. Spare engine for a chain link ferry? No location given but it could be assumed to be costal, stored in a yard? Salt air environment? You pays your money and takes your chance

  4. There's a lot just being installed alongside the canal just below Kidlington Green lock. By the size of the frames being installed, they look like big buggers. I'm pretty sure that the site is were the proposed marina development was.
  5. I know it's not the OP's boat, but do they know why the boat sank in the first place?
  6. If it's showing it's roof have a look through this: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=52153
  7. Mine is a bit more simplistic. I have a 16A plug by the mains input RCD in the 'electrics cupboard'. Beside it it on three seperate cables are 3 16A plugs marked: 'Bow', 'Stern' and 'Inverter'. Depending on where the ac supply is from, depends on what you have plugged in. The inverter is supplied from the boat ac distribution system. It has a fused spur to isolate it. I need to sort this out this out as potentially you can plug the 16A @Inverter' ac socket to the ac input for the boat, which in turn supplies ac input to the battery charger, which charges the batteries, which supplies the inverter, which supplies ac to to the boat, which supplies ac the charger...................................................... On my list of things to do
  8. Missed this one. Not sure how. This might help: http://d3national.blogspot.co.uk/2008/04/liner-wars-and-pistons.html

  10. I always have the laptop plugged in which will start charging when the ac circuits are energised, but I doubt that that is enough of a load. The only other ac loads I have are the vacuum cleaner and the iron. They don't like being switched on
  11. Speaking as someone who currently has their boat up for sale. I would be vey reluctant to offer a test cruise on the first visit. Any potential purchaser can gain a lot by seeing the engine running while on a mooring. Gears can be engaged to check gearbox and stern gear etc. Actually taking the boat out won't give the purchaser a huge amount more information about the boat. When the purchaser gets a boat surveyed, does the surveyor take the boat out for a test run? - No, because there is very little to be gained from it regarding the condition, structure etc of the boat. I would have to feel that the potential purchaser is very keen before offering a test cruise. I would be happy to take a fully refundable deposit and the sale to be concluded on the basis of a sucessful survey and trial. For me, there is also the practicalities of a trial. From my linear mooring, go North and we can turn at Thrupp wide (about a mile) or futher up on to the Cherwell. If it's facing South, we'd have to go to Dukes to turn. A days cruise.
  12. I had a feeling that the mains input could be the problem. It's running from a Honda EU20i generator. According to Honda, the output spec for the genny is compatable with Mastervolts input spec for the charger. I thought it might be a high initial load on the genny was causing a voltage drop which was not allowing the charger to 'start'. Running the genny on 'rabbit' mode (allows the genny to take high start loads) makes no effect on the problem. According to Mastervolt bumf it should be soft start anyway. I'll have to try to find some mains power to see if that makes a difference
  13. I have a Mastervolt 12/60 charger that is reluctant to switch on. It takes many attempts to get the thing to go. Is there some sort of latching relay when you switch it on? Once it's 'on' it works fine. Anyone had a similar problem or any ideas?

  15. The term used to describe 'Lister' engines made under licence (usually from India) was/is "Listeroid". As Tim say's "Listard" is the chroming process patented by Lister for their liners
  16. I've seen a few jobs that Martin has done. His retro fit doors, hatches and windows are all very well fabricated. Top welder. I think you chose the right man for the job
  17. Oh dear Unfortunately time to get the wheel barrow out (and the cheque book ) A bottom end rebuild is not for the light hearted. There's some seriously heavy lumps of metal that need to be lugged about Good luck. You know it will be worth it in the end.

  22. I thoght of doing that, but the 'enclosed' pan makes emptying easier/less chance of spillage. Midland swindlers do a replacement pan with the end missing - £21.50 ! 3" is pretty much the max width. There's loads available at 4", but that seems about the smallest I may invest in a 4" one and modify it
  23. Anyone know where you can get a narrow ash shovel. The back cabin has a Premier Range which is just toasty when you're cruising in Winter 'Spilt' ash builds up at the back of the ash box and eventually stops you getting the ash pan in. Trouble is, the ash box is a little over 3" wide and the shovel on the companion set is to big/wide to get in. I could make one, but it'd be easier to buy one Any sources?
  24. Ocelot is on the market: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=73117
  25. Keep your eye on the weather forecast If it looks like a really cold spell coming up, make sure that your water tank is full and your poo tank empty. Keep an extra stock of coal. The coal boat might not be able to get through. Bring your water hose inside the say before you plan to use it. Nothing worse than fighting your way to the water point to find your hose is iced up
