Nb Sokai went up the top lock as we left it going down. The assumption is then that we were bloody lucky and the trough went in just behind us. Must have been something about Kiwidad that made the farmer wait for us to go past :-)

We did the River Severn from Stourport to Tewkesbury a few weeks ago and every lock was automated and manned by a lock keeper. No ropes either bow or stern were requested. Although we did only travel during the day. There were boards by each lock indicating open times, suggesting that these are not locks that you can operate yourself. Other than locks, lovely easy but as suggested avoid in floods but they close the locks then anyway.

Maybe you should offer your services as a 'Google' boat to capture the towpath views from the canal, just like street view
