  1. Electric boating, seemed to be the big thing this year. Plenty of electric motors and controllers on show, both installed and on show. 8 hours of electric cruising needs 2-3 hours on diesel generator to charge lithium batteries. One stall seemed to say that electric cruising could be done solely by solar panels, but you would need enough, 1575 W with a 10kw motor, in a 50-60 foot boat, holding 19.2KWh battery. They did admit this would not work in winter, but then who winter cruises. Bod
  2. Is this MC? To the left unwashed, to the right the silver pits under the orange head. Bod
  3. The surveyed boat is in old paint, and no mention of over plating needed. The photographed boat has had a full paint strip back to bare metal, and is in the process of being partially or fully having the base re-plated. This is expensive work, being done in a dry dock. Has it been paid for? The painted boat has 3 items visible by the front door, the stripped boat hasn't, through this may just not be visible after stripping. (lights removed, I would still expect to see the wire holes.) This is all just my feeling on this. If I were traveling some distance to view, I would like to know just what I am going to see, particularly as the story has some discrepancies. Bod
  4. Work another coat of Vactan into the bottom of every pit and weld crease. Just doing the flat bits is a waste of time, the rust lurks in the pits. Bod.
  5. My initial comment would be, the surveyed boat, is different to the photographed boat. There is no indication of re-plating needing doing in the survey. The photographed boat has had the paint removed, possibly the interior stripped(?) Before travelling to view, a recent time stamped photo, showing the identity of the boat might be an idea. Bod.
  6. That photo appears to be a Bowman item, it's worth contacting Bowmans direct, with as much information as possible, (base engine/part No. from old exchanger etc.). It's possible Bowman can make a new one or repair the the old. Bod
  7. @JaimeManero"Fuze is the brand. Sold on ebay" If I have found the correct item on E-bay, it appears to be one of the Vactan type converters, good stuff. Your first pictures show a thick layer of rust with paint on the top, what I think may have happened is that water has crept under your prepared area from elsewhere. Bod.
  8. Whats a 2nd hand 70x12ft part fitted sailaway worth? Bod
  9. Happened today. https://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/23514268.boater-finally-evicted-canal-river-trust-legal-battle/ Bod
  10. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/anglian-waterways-bridges-locks-and-facilities-for-boaters This link will give you much of the information you need at this stage. Read and understand the Bylaws, as the EA do enforce them fully. Bod
  11. Yes from experience, it is easy and quick to apply,, I'd put it on a damp hull, one coat straight after the first, minimal time between coats. But it's the difference between "Touch Dry" paint and "Dry" paint, which is the sticking point. The other problem I had with it, is it didn't store, order for delivery on the day of use, to ensure a fresh supply. They have a chart giving coverage quantities, use all of it. (This may have been addressed) Curiously, I used a new plastic paint roller tray to apply the first time, reused the second time. then stored dry for several years uncleaned. The tray can be flexed untill the plastic threatens to crack. the dried Keelblack does not crack or fall off. Bod
  12. First Keelblacked in 2016, over whatever was there, done 3-4 years previously by then owner.(microbe corrosion suspected then in 2016) Pressure washed, scraped, Fertan, as per Kellblack instructions over everything, allowed to dry. Two coats of Keelblack, then allowed to dry, which needed much longer than expected to harden. I don't expect there to be any time gain by using Keelblack over standard bitumen because of the drying / hardening time required. Certainly because Keelblack is water-based, putting the boat back too soon would cause major loss. Redone at 2 years, mainly because the boat had to have the roof stripped fully and repainted. Redone with Keelblack this time in a covered dock, again more drying time than expected.(ist time was open air) Would I use Keelblack again. Yes, only on the "hard" where there was no time restriction on going back into the water. Bod After washing.
  13. We came out in February last year, but because of microbial corrosion we had to grit blast and 2 pack, at Debdale. After and before pressure washing photos. Bod
  14. Worth coming to get fit-out ideas, from show boats. Get in as early as possible, go straight to the show boats, and book viewing times for later in the day. Bod
  15. My 2 penny's worth. When actually viewing a hull in person, look at the way the "D" shaped rubbing strips are fitted. They should be continously welded for the full length, including the ends, both top and bottom. This is to keep out the water, thus preventing a rust trap to form, which will damage the hull and cannot without huge effort be fixed. This almost alone will the difference between a good and not so good build quality. Bod
  16. It is the legal basis that is the heart of the matter. C&RT, BW, BWB, Transport commission before, were set up by Parliamentary Acts, which specified exactly what they could do. By the law that created them. British waterways Acts 1971-95 are the most recent, there have been cases where the original Acts that allowed the canal to be dug, have been used. Under normal English law, the law says what you can't do, "Thou shall't not kill" not what you can do. The law for C&RT and other institutions set up by Parliamentary Act, is the opposite, the law dictate's exactly what they can do, and no more. Which is why the Terms and conditions that are being forced upon us are on dubious grounds, those that are in the legislation or bylaws are ok, others are questionable. This will need a High Court decision to really sort out. Bod Ps. This my understanding of points made by Nigel Moore.
  17. If the Transport act 1962 is the" we can do what we like", solution, that C&RT would have us believe, why were the following Waterways Acts needed? Bod
  18. A general question to all, are there any other"enactments" that allow for the removal or refusal of licences? Bod
  19. If this part of the Act is read, you will see that (i) is refering to the Board checking their records to see if your claimed mooring is correct' (ii) it is down to you the boater to tell the Board what you are going to do. So yes the Board has 2 Satisfie's to be filled. Bod
  20. For interest, where is your quote taken from please? Bod
  21. This is only if you are applying for a non Home Mooring licence. (Aka CCing) You are to "Satisfy the Board" as to your intention to Bona-fide navigate the waterways during the period of the licence. Bod
  22. If I understand the paper correctly, and it's report is correct. The boat became unlicensed when C&RT removed a valid licence part way through the licence period. Under the legislation govening C&RT, they have no right to do this, or refuse to grant a licence, if the 3 requirements are met, money, insurance, BSSC. Bod
  23. You have checked the shore power is actually working? Not run out of credit on the post, other post for other boats are working? Some clever systems will automatically switch from shore line to battery power, if the shore line is not reconnected before the batteries go "flat" the lights go out. Bod
