  1. For sanding down paintwork are the round disc types superior to the rectangular pad types?
  2. Bit of advice, in case you don't know. Keep grinding sparks away from Windows or glass will be ruined by hundreds of tiny burns which it is impossible to remove!
  3. Thanks . I've ordered 10 pairs. Like you said, they're not expensive and it will be a lot simpler to use new ones.
  4. I'm going to shorten the cabling between my solar panels cos there's too much surplus at the mo.looks like spaghetti! Can I reuse the existing plugs cos otherwise I'm going to have to buy 22 new plugs
  5. Cillit Bang ( in the Orange/purple spray bottle) is excellent at removing rust stains. Just scrub with an old toothbrush.
  6. I have 2 "dead" laptops. Will the photos on them be still on the hard drives after 5 years of being unused?
  7. Of course, I was thinking maybe it meant the cells of a solar panel.So....(nearly there) keying in 10mV/Cell/°C x 6 cells means an extra 60mV per degree below 24 degrees C. Therefore at 20 degrees the charge would be 14.4V ( if that's the normal charge rate) plus an extra (4 X 60mV) = 14.64V. Am I right ?
  8. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  9. Thanks. But I notice the display diagrams have minus "-05mV/C" and I can't see a reference to 24 degrees.I also notice the manual says "0 to 10mV/Cell/°C"........... Any idea what a cell is?
  10. Thanks. But how did I you get that info? I can't see it anywhere in the manual. It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to upgrade to the newer MPPT model cos, like you say, 0.01V ain't much.
  11. Do you mean -10mV/C?I only seem to be able to get from 0 to -10!!!!! Well the digits have a "-" sign before them.......bit confusing. And what will that setting achieve?
  12. Looks like I'll have to get the new MPPT controller then, to get best charge voltage for the Trojans? Thanks Good at least I won't have to get another MT50.Thanks
  13. Yeah but I wonder would the modern MPPT lose it programming if I unplugged the MT50? And could I use the MT50 to programme the old MPPT?
  14. I've got both remote meters, MT-5 on an old style Tracer MPPT 3215 and MT50 on the new style MPPT 4215BN, running in parallel to my Trojan batteries. The problem is that the old MT-5 doesn't seem to be as programmable as the MT50, which has "User parameters" so I can't key in that I want 14.8v as my bulk charge etc. Am I right or can it be done? Could I plug the new meter into the old MPPT for example?
  15. Maybe we should just forget our heritage altogether.
  16. Humber Keelmen ...........typical yachties.
  17. Nothing pedantic about it. Just throwing in a bit of info. Some people are interested in tradition, some aren't.?
  18. Yes I realise that (after it was pointed out to me on this forum), so I'm getting a Sterling regulator.?
  19. We used laminated ash ply but can't remember if 4 or 6 mm. Looked great. Also ...... The ceiling in a boat is actually called the " deck head" Strangely enough the ceilings are the walls .......or they are in Humber Keels. The floor in the hold was called the "shutts" but in the skippers cabin the "dennings". Just thought I'd throw that info in before it gets forgotten in the mists of time.
  20. So..... How did the visit go?
  21. Good point. I've heard about Trojans taking a while to get up to max. Should I "tell" my MICC the capacity is 470Ah to start with? Is this peculiar only to Trojans?
