  1. Well done everyone who entered the music quiz and all who donated funds: A healthy £50 will be donated by PayPal to help fund the forum. For those who missed the results the cash prize was shared between 'the eh team' (Cheshire rose and crew and 'team Rico' (Bazza and crew and their secret weapon Rico the dog). The eh team also earned themselves a jar of pickled onions for their suggesting that the answer to the blank question 10 was Dr Who. Team Rico also won a spot prize of a bottle of beer for being the only team to know what the theme tune was to the Dukes of Hazard. Wills team "won" the rosie and jim rag doll about that stuffdelete delete delete (rant rant tablet went onto speak and won't let me delete -try again). Wills team won the Rosie and Jim rag doll model narrow boat for being last but were also awarded a bottle of Hawkshead beer for their amusing comment: the Madness album was not entitled 'friends can be a real pain in the arse (look up One Step Beyond). Spot prizes for other amusing answers, best and worst handwriting were also won. A bottle of cider was won for team name Pykies - challenge for next year to come up with good puns for team names. Anyone who knew missing name for Mambo no 5 was Tina were given chocolate. Hope everyone enjoyed it. Tina
  2. Sorry just picked up on this thread. Going back to the original thread, if C&RT are not imposing a penalty but are providing a mooring service, does this mean that the Stoke Bruene moorings are a business and subject to business rates? Would C&RT need planning permission to turn standard 14 day moorings into an online marina - albeit that the first 2 days are free.
  3. Incoveniently for CRT, the Acts of Parliament that they inherited from BW place an obligation on them to maintain most (but not all) to a navigable stanard.
  4. For the record these are the figures from British Waterways 2011/12 Accounts, which shows that they get most of their income from property, selling water to water companies {ever wondered why the canals are low on water?} and mooring, Not surprisingly C&RT senior managers see their priority as landlords - nothing to do with boating. Group commercial income summary £m BW Group England & Wales Scotland 2011/12 Property rentals, wayleaves and premiums 38.2 Utility income and water sales 24.4 Boat licence income 17.8 BWML total income 6.9 BW moorings 6.4 BW retail sales 2.9 Maintenance and other income 11.6 Group commercial income 108.2 {total)
  5. If you do go to the Anchor at High Offley you could also call into the Navigation Inn at Gnosall on Thursday evening. They have a fairly structured open mic night but often ends up with some impromptu music and Steve and Carol are usually happy for do it yourself music in the evenings.
  6. Just to let you know that the nice people at Hook Norton brewery have promised to donate some goodies for us. So there should be some good merchandise and brewery tours to raffle to raise some funds for the forum. Some may also end up as prizes for music quiz and for best easter bonnet/waistcoat. The Hook Norton brewery is powered by steam engines so the brewery tour is a good gift - especially if you are cruising the Oxford. Hook Norton Carol has said that breakfast should be £5 a head - full English using local butchers bacon and sausages and includes tea and coffee. Assume 10:00 will be early enough, although I expect campers will be able get a tea or coffee ealier. May not get any sensible posts tomorrow - Cloggys birthday tomorrow. Livers groaning already.
  7. Fixed the link now. The first time they played at the Navvy everyone shouted for an encore.
  8. Update on music. Jukebox night still on for Saturday evening but the Navvy has arranged for a fab band to play on Saturday afternoon - around 2pm to 6pm. They are called Sons of Cloggers and are a great high energy band with some fab mandolin playing. This is the link to their website - the last 2 videos were taken in the Navvy. Sons of Cloggers Forgot to mention for all early birds the Navvy has a music night every Thursday from 9pm. As regards suggestions, some good songs. I know they have Black Betty but will need to check on the others - there's an excuse for a quick drink before we set off tomorrow. Give some allowance for Queen - I particularly like Fat Bottomed Girls - thats what you need for pushing a lock gate.
  9. No-one forced to play anything but all musicians welcome Saturday night and if you are brave enough to do a turn, Sunday night as well, although jamming sessions (maybe with squeeze box) would be great. Got a friend (Boatfaerie) who could do with some help with squeeze box.
  10. Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Yes. Frequently played along with other Floyd. SAdly no Emerson Lake and Palmer
  11. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  12. I agree that it is a good tune. Sorry No Girls Talk but Dave Edmunds "Born to be with you" is on there.
