Indeed. That is why when I go continuous cruising for 6 or 7 months of the year, the car remains in it's garage and I travel with trusty Bus Pass; yes I'm well old enough for one of those, and my Senior Railcard too.

boatpost2@gmail.com I've used them for a long time and I think you'll find that they offer a similar personal service as Boatmail. After choosing one or the other, your only two problems to sort out are car insurance and NHS. Car insurance is difficult without your address and where it's kept being the same. I have a lockup garage in by my home mooring, and that's the address I give. It's not a problem that there's no one there, as the insurers do all online. For NHS you need an address close to your registered GP. If you don't, they will de-register you and tell you to get a GP near your postal address, which in my case is miles away in a different county too. So the boatyard opposite my home mooring kindly lets me use their address for that. Do PM me if you wish. James

Cheap supplier of Morris Oil & Antifreeze etc
JamesWoolcock replied to frangar's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
Excellent. Many thanks for this. Shall be paying them a visit before long. -
The water pressure from the tap within the elson facility here is not good and it's quite horrifying how many folks rinse their loos under the drinking water tap outside, the dirty people. If I catch them they get told about the aerosol effect and how foul their behaviour is.

Not happy if they do. Best moorings in town. Around the corner from Castle Rock Brewery's 'Vat & Fiddle' and by the Police Bridewell with Mr and Ms Rozzer going in and out 24 hrs a day with the local miscreants, of which there is an inexhaustible number. How safe can you be in a town thats still as lawless as when Robin Hood was around?

Not sure that they make burgers from the whole fish but just use their fingers.

CaRT: Corrupt Management Fiasco
JamesWoolcock replied to one of the hidden's topic in General Boating
Well I think some of us can pinpoint where all this is alleged to have taken place, and its rather farther from the local CRT office than claimed, albeit not far. The sunken boat has caused many of us problems as it was tied at the end of but not really on the lock landing of Twyfords Lock, 38 T&M, alongside the apartments built on the site of Twyfords Cliffevale Works. Hanley Cemetery can clearly be seen across the canal. So, we're talking about those nice guys and gals up at Etruria. In my experience ever decent, ever helpful. The whole thing sounds like a personal grudge to me. -
Shove him off with a well aimed cabin shaft

What at? The paddle gear or the intruder?
-
Got one! And always thought it an ideal weapon, but then I think you could cave someone's skull in quite easily - so go careful!

Or how not to gain a new customer.

In the good old days of the Waterways Managers, who knew their patch quite well and probably felt some personal ownership towards it, I used to photo all the (inappropriately) moored CRT workboat and send it to them. And I always got the response something to the effect of 'thanks for that. We shouldn't be doing it'. Still happened though.....

"Boaters' views sought on managing moorings in busy London" is the title with a lovely photo of a busy Central Birmingham is an article from Damian's latest Update! Jeez, don't these folk ever check their stuff over?
-
They did indeed. Malcolm Braine once told me they wouldn't have any welding kit on the premises! Eventually, they went into the holiday cruiser trade, but those they built were all riveted. There's one moored at Lyon's Boatyard on the N. Oxford at Warstock South Birmingham. I think it's 'Victoria'. There is a thread on here of a few years ago about it and Harris Bros.

No it's not a charm. It's an irritation and a load of waffle. Just do everyone a favour and start a new topic. After all, what you lot are going on about is of interest to many, even me, but not here.
-
I hope it all goes well
-
Yes, I understand that and how it happens, so why don't you start another topic and stop wasting the time of folks who might want to know how Lady L's problems are progressing.
-
So what's this all got to do with Barrowford Locks and the stranded Lady G? You guys know how to seriously go off topic, and I thought the Mods might have stepped in.
-
It's on the Hall Green Branch of the T&M (Macclesfield Canal to many) just on/over the main road aqueduct and on a bend, so approved mooring doubtful. But on the upside it's with 10 minutes or so walk to the Blue Bell at Hardingswood 😀🍻

Excellent. More decent moorings for the rest of us.

Insurance requirements for narrowboats over 30 years old
JamesWoolcock replied to clendee's topic in General Boating
I, and this boat been with Towergate for years, and once when I had a sizeable claim, they were absolutely brilliant. Then, out of the blue, they gave me a months notice at renewal. saying that they didn't want my business any longer because of the age of the boat. So I rang Michael Stimpson, a life long boater who does know about boats, and especially insuring boats and I now have an excellent policy with Circle Marine that costs less than I was paying Towergate. -

I have been quoted every 5 years for an out of water survey which is ridiculous as it really needs to fall at the same time as hull blacking. If the surveyor does a good job it will need re-blacking afterwards as he/she will strip much of it off during the inspection. I have successfully argued for every 6 years. This gives me the option of re-blacking every 2 years or 3. Any insurer who knows about boats will understand. If they don't, then you can be assured they don't know anything about it and should be avoided. In the event of a claim they may turn out to be difficult.
