  1. First I need to get gas, then a gas cooker
  2. Its fair to say that I still have a long way to go before I understand electrickery, so this may sound dumb but here goes... With the engine ticking over, if someone puts the kettle on, the engine immediately starts to struggle as if it is about to stall? I assume this is due to the alternator reacting to the demand placed on the batteries by the inverter? If anyone can point me at an article or post that might explain this more technically so that I can try and understand what is actually happening I would be most grateful? Cheers

    Ponderings

We are 15 minutes from our mooring, it makes a massive difference, to the point where I now try and work from the boat and every weekend is boat time, even if we have to do the parent taxi thing... ETA: it makes a massive difference to when we used my fathers boat on the broads, that was a 2 hr plus drive and therefore infrequent.

    Work

Now that is the dream job. I could do that, did in fact, last Monday, trying to wind all 70ft of Tesla when some muppet had left a lock open causing the water level to drop a foot or so! Still it was only another hour to the next winding hole...

    Work

Work. It might be a right pain in the butt, but I am working from the boat today and the sun is beaming down on Thrupp! I've found I am more productive working from the boat, anyone else find that?
  6. I have to say that in three weeks of ownership I have met only great people. I have spent hours chatting on the towpath to people and got excellent advise from many boaters, especially yesterday when trying to wind at Enslow (failed as it happened as the water level was too low and Tesla too long!).
  7. The Cherwell was, on yellow late yesterday, may be a bit higher this morning?
  8. The seller is willing to part exchange for a tiger apparently.
  9. News from BBC Oxford http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19245953
  10. Thanks Ray, I will try one of these. Candy, good to meet you this morning. Didn't think I would meet another forum member quite so quickly... Yes it is. We had our first night on board, it was a bit late by the time we got here so ate Chinese by torch light Spent the morning exploring lockers and cupboards and starting the cleaning. Hopefully we will head south this afternoon....
  11. Ah well, in that case...your starter for 10... 1) any idea where I can find a replacement knob for my throttle control lever? The control panel is Isuzu if that helps? And another one... 2) I am going to need to cut out some ply flooring to deal with a leak. On the basis that I may not be able to remove whole boards due to walls etc, what would the tool of choice be, a circular saw? Any advice greatly received as ever.
  12. Hi Roger, Nikola Tesla is certainly the inspiration for the AC only set up on the boat, and there maybe a Radcliffe link. Home is indeed TCCC. Done, thanks.
  13. Hi Sarah, that would be great (I was going to write to you as it happens, having seen your thread reference the Norton Canes register). I have seen the WW cover online, sadly it is fairly low res. Thanks for the info.
  14. Hi Athy, I will try and get pics sorted out soon, there is one on Flickr here The new engine is just an Isuzu 42. The original was, by all accounts, much more interesting, i don't know a great deal about it other than it was mid engined, bespoke and bloody noisy..
  15. Hi Bill, yes we plan to keep them at this stage, one of the first tasks is to try and restore the faded paintwork.
  16. So, our plan to buy a narrowboat in a few years time seems to have gone awry...as of today we are the owners of a 70 foot nb by the name of Tesla. It's a rather nice 1992 Norton Canes, although a bit of a project internally. No doubt it will be, as I have seen described on here, a hole in the water to pour money down but I can't think of a better cause... You have all been very patient with my dumb questions over the last few months, this is advanced warning that there is going to be many many more If you see us out and about please give a wave, we are on the South Oxford. Oh, and we are quite excited
  17. That is a horrible sight.
  18. This is going to sound very dumb, but I assumed Bitumen was only applied to the outside of the boat, and that if I found rust in say the bilge, I would clean up with a wire brush and apply a rust converter like Fertan?
  19. I looked at Drum a few weeks back, its a cracking boat in my opinion, albeit not big enough for us.
  20. A few days to go for us, can't wait...
