Now just an email from waterscape saying that they've shut Gargrave Locks because of lack of water !!!!!!!
Hopefully it's just overnight.
And it's been raining all day !!!
Dave
A few years ago we had the same problem but worse, the locks were all closed around this area and the hire boats were moved to areas not affected by the drought so don't worry too much.
Having said that we were out on the top pound a few weeks ago and it was full to the brim but now the area around our mooring is definitely lower than it as been for a while, a couple of weeks of sun and looks what happens.
There should be no problem with leaving your hire boat where ever you want to catch your train from. The easiest and nearest are Skipton, Silsden, Bingley, Saltaire and Shipley, all safe and all within walking distance to the train station for Leeds.
Dave
I'm biased but I'd come back over the L & L, I don't know if you've been this way before but if not you'll definitely
want to come back this way.
And yes we'll wave when you pass our mooring.
Dave
Last time we came this way we moored at Dover Lock which was quite a pleasant mooring, then 2 locks to do on the Leigh branch and then up the Wigan 21, we were told we'd meet up with other boats going the same way but ended up doing all 23 by ourselves with no sign of any other boats all day.
Apart from Blackburn and Burnley there's no problems with mooring anywhere until you reach the outskirts of Leeds
Dave
We looked there about 18months ago, we didn't buy anything but that was because the right boat for us wasn't there but
they did seem a nice bunch, very helpful and showed us round several boats.

Hi, I've one that I made up myself, I had to cut the tiller arm at the right place and then attached the hinge, you can either throw away the part that you're replacing or make the arm longer, I bought mine from Puffer Parts at Keighley.
It's not a difficult job to do.

Got an email from Waterscape this morning saying that Bridge 176 Gawflat swingbridge (better known as Aireville Park Bridge) is closed after being hit yesterday by a boat, update on Friday 31st May,
I came through yesterday at about 12 o'clock and honest it wasn't me !
Dave
We have a Whispergen onboard, it was on the boat when we bought it, it's briiliant, runs off diesel, very quiet, charges the batteries, heats the water and runs the central heating, BUT costs a fortune in spare parts / repair and very very expensive to buy / fit
If I didn't have one on the boat when we bought it then I'd struggle to justify paying the asking price for it.
Dave
My only problem was SWMBO, we reached Selby fine a few Augusts ago, she looked at the Ouse and said no way !!!
It was in flood, a mucky orange colour with trees floating down past Selby lock so unfortunately we turned round and came
back, still a great trip though.
Dave
Most setting of from Barlick find that a good weeks cruise is down to Saltaire and back, that incorporates many different places and experiences including Bingley 5 Rise, don't try and go too far, just enjoy your holiday and wave when you pass our mooring.
Dave
Have a good look round, we were looking for a semi trad or cruiser with large windows,
We ended up buying a trad with portholes, we just fell in love with it
We stayed overnight at Nottingham then did Nottingham, sawley and finally Mercia Marina at Willington (New and Used Boat Co)
we were exhausted by then.
