  1. Thanks for letting me know. I only saw 2 or 3 of this series. Have already set it to record. Cheers
  2. We fitted 3 Atoms to our boat. They look great, and are tiny. Sadly they proved to be awful. There were regular false alarms when nobody was on board. Our neighbours in the marina were driven mad by it going off all night. We ended up replacing them with 2 toast proof optical ones over the beds, and a heat detector in the galley. Even a toast proof one in a kitchen area could give false alarms. Presumably a heat detector will only go off once a fire is well alight, but still gives you chance to get out.
  3. Well that's a bit different! Not sure I would find a use for it. Any suggestions?
  4. Wow!! I'm really impressed. Suddenly having a black labrador or two seems really mundane.
  5. Fair enough Scrunch. I agree with all your thoughts. Common sense really.
  6. Fingers crossed, it wouldn't take long to get hypothermia. At this time of year, the water is pretty cold.
  7. Is Gatun on the Panama Canal? Looks like a staircase?
  8. Advantages to Venice. No queues at locks. No pump out or Elsan. Just tip it overboard, I'm sure no-one will notice the smell. Better dressed boaters. Better pasta and cured meats Italian drivers........ Oops maybe not, mind due can they be any worse than Black Prince hirers?
  9. Hope that's re Speedwheel's post and not ours!!!!!!!
  10. Maybe we should ban alcohol for health and safety reasons. It causes lots of trips and falls............and daft posts!!!!! We've become dryathletes and given up booze for January. Have a bottle of Champagne ready for Feb 1st. Lovely.
  11. What a great idea for our boat planned for next year. A Dog Kennel on the front of our boat. Ideal for when the dogs get wet and stink. Can cruise at 70' long, then detach it for Leeds Liverpool locks etc, where length is an issue.
  12. It would be easier to clone a boat with a common name. Ie Kingfisher, Dunroaming etc, as so many on the water. So give your boat a daft name and it will be more memorable!!
  13. While I obviously sympathise that you felt a bit under the spotlight, he wasn't doing anything wrong. (Providing he didn't come aboard) The law allows someone to photograph property and/or individuals from any public place. It is always polite to ask permission first if taking someone's photo, but there is no requirement.
  14. Yes I have read the thread carefully, and have personal experience of Enterprise Inns practices at our local pub. We have used the Admiral on many occasions over the last few years, but have moved our boat up to Cheshire 16 months ago. I feel very sorry for any publicans struggling in the current climate. If as you say they were doing well then this failure is down to a bad contract. My comments still stand regarding traders generally, as if we don't use our pubs, butchers, cafes etc, they will all close.
  15. Use them or Lose them. It's up to all of us to use canalside / country pubs. Whether you have one glass of lemonade, or six pints of beer, have a basic steak pie, or a gourmet meal, these will all help. There's no point in grumbling when your local shop or pub closes, if you rarely used it. We always try to support the pubs and shops when we are aboard. We see so many people arriving at their boat with a week or two supplies from Tesco. We bring the essentials, then stop at farm shops and villages along the way. Ok it costs a little more, but you waste less, eat better, and support all that makes canal boating worthwhile. Sorry, I will get off my soapbox.
  16. What a great piece of cinematography. Loved the Thunderbirds theme. I am surprised that a speed boat with a basic tow rope was used to recover such an expensive boat. I'm not sure the insurance company would have been too happy if there had been more damage done. It seemed a bit Heath Robinson.
  17. I knew it wasnt a Riley as I had an RMF for 5 years. However it was my first post on the forum and I managed to add it to that photo in error. I would like my next narrowboat to handle like my current toy. That's a Lotus Elise SC so likely to handle well?
  18. All this talk of Riley RMs. Do your narrowboats have vinyl roofs?
