    Tiller shake

I‘ve never added a lot, but will keep an eye out, just in case.

    Tiller shake

I think you will find oil usually floats on top of water, so it would be very obvious. Greta can sleep soundly!

    Tiller shake

We haven’t got a grease nipple, the Mike Christian shell has a sealed bearing. I have on a couple of occasions poured oil down as felt it couldn’t do any harm.

    Tiller shake

We wondered about the bottom cup too. We have a 7 year old Mike Christian shell and would hope this wouldn’t cause a problem yet. There’s not any movement when giving the swan neck a really good tug. I suppose we may have given the rudder a knock at some time to loosen it though. We are due for blacking soon, but hoped to cure it in the meantime. Thank you for all the suggestions so far.

    Tiller shake

Sadly not, it’s been doing it on the river Severn too. It is a little worse on a shallow canal too. It all does it when winding, or when manoeuvring a tight bend and going dead slow.
  6. We have been experiencing tiller shake recently which increases with larger steering inputs. There is no play in the swan neck/rudder stock and there is no weed/rubbish hanging off the leading edge of the rudder. I can’t find any nicks or evidence of a bent prop, though this is only through the weed hatch. Any ideas as to what may be causing it please?
  7. Do you have mushroom vents? You could bring the cables in through the roof via a vent, then through the liner and above the ceiling.
  8. It’s also well worth the walk to the nearby Mad O’Rourkes Pie Factory. If you’ve not been before, it’s a very enjoyable experience.
  9. Or reintroduce beavers. ?
  10. I would recommend the Greek on the Dock in Gloucester, we ate there last week. They do a lunchtime menu which is good value. They serve excellent food and you can moor outside. Also, if you time it right, moor near Epney, have a drink at the Anchor Inn and you can enjoy watching the Severn Bore. Sadly. The next really good one isn’t until October.
  11. I agree entirely, sadly it’s cheaper to develop green field sites than brown field.
  12. The skyline at Rugeley has changed today as the 4 cooling towers go in just 10 seconds. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-57375407
  13. I’ve just removed our “Welcome to moor alongside” signs. I’m just not risking someone taking out my 4g antenna or satellite dish!
  14. We’ve had lots of good experiences with Just Park. I would recommend them. Used them for our car when CC’ing and when on holiday and near Wembley stadium. Well worth using their app. I’ve just booked a driveway this evening for a spot later this week.
  15. https://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/99309-using-aluminium-section/&tab=comments#comment-2236002 Hi, have a look at my thread for some ideas. Good luck with your plans.
  16. Hi Blackrose, really glad to see you’ve done your project in aluminium. Our lockers are approaching 2 years old and I’ve no doubts as to the strength of the aluminium frames. There’s no movement as we step on or off them. I hope you’re as pleased with yours, as we are with ours.
  17. Does someone else live at your c/o address? If so did they confirm they could also complete the census? My web chat guy couldn’t answer the second question. The option of the nearest house/bridge sounds better as using a c/o address may log your location as miles from where you are moored. Again my guy couldn’t help with that.
  18. I’ve just tried putting in my mum’s postcode to see what came up. You have to select a house number, which I’m sure would affect her ability to complete her census. At the bottom was the option “I can’t find my address” so I clicked on that. Great, it just took me back to: “Give us a ring or use web chat”, so I’m going around in circles. I will try again in a few days in the hope they’ve sorted it.
  19. Didn’t work for me a few minutes ago, see my post above
  20. I just tried their web chat facility and ended up with the same result as you. Asked if we could use the postcode of the nearest house to where we are currently moored, but whether this affects that house’s ability to complete theirs. I don’t know if they need a house number as well as a postcode. He didn’t know, but suggested trying them again in 2 days time and they would look into it in the meantime.
  21. It’s crap value though at £22.53 for the paperback. If it’s not a good read, you could always use the pages to wipe with.
  22. We’ve used our daily exercise to prepare for the onslaught of the next ice-age. We walked to the the nearby Premier store to buy biscuits & Yellow Tail Jammy Red Roo. If we get snowed in, at least we will be happy.
