I’ve now had a response from CRT, who are going to correct the errors:
Good Afternoon
Thank you for contacting The Canal & River Trust - In regards to your enquiry below, I have had a response from the relevant team and this is being fixed - it will be updated asap but cant give any timescales when this will be completed.
Once again thank you for contacting The Canal & River Trust.
Kind Regards

Do we think it's a genuine mistake, or deliberate mis representation? If deliberate, for what reason?
It’s obviously a mistake. Why do people constantly look for conspiracies?
Just now, ditchcrawler said:Does it make any real difference, when its empty its empty
Yes, if you’re planning a cruise. There’s a big difference between 87% and 27% in a reservoir.

So other than one entry, where the minimum historical level has been entered in lieu of the actual reading - what other mistakes are there? It’s clear there isn’t anything malicious in that error because the -5.9% change allows you to calculate the entry should say 87.2%; and perhaps more importantly the BCN is open for business and full of water.
I’ve never said that there was anything malicious, just inaccurate.
The figures are also wrong for the Staffs & Worcs, Huddersfield narrow, GU north & Lancaster.

They seem to have now updated some of the historic lows to read 2022, but there are still errors in there.

If the minimum historic matches the current figure, this indicates, to me, that the level is the lowest it has ever been, which is possible.
I've no idea who is responsible, is there no indication?
But unlikely to be to the exactly same to one decimal point for each historical previous low. They quote the year this happened.
They state that Birmingham navigations have dropped by 5.9% from 92.7% in June to 27% in July!! -
CRT has now listed the latest reservoir watch details. There appears to be lots of mistakes in the July figures. Percentage drops are not accurate to the actual change and in almost every case, the level matches exactly the previous historical low.
Who should I report this to?https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/refresh/media/thumbnail/46474-july-2022-reservoir-watch.pdf

Thanks. I'm heading down to Kilworth this Saturday to get stuff aboard for the boat mover who's taking it to Great Haywood for me, and I'll be taking it from there. I'll be making sure there's enough gas, fuel and a full tank of diesel for him. And more than enough spare for me to take it from GH to Nantwich.
It'll be marina based in Nantwich so no worries with much of the sort of stuff you mention and I'm really familiar with water points and chandlers etc on the SU. Also, Chamberlin fuel boat is moored very close by and does the circuit and I'll be buying all I can from them rather than a marina.
Oh, it's a drop-through toilet too, so no daily carrying and emptying. It wasn't my preference but it's a used boat so didn't have much choice.
Hope all goes well for you.
Do make sure you have a look at any stoppages that may delay your planned trip. There are plenty at this time of year on many routes.

I took this photo in 2017 on the Rochdale. Was our GSD Lily (sadly now in her dog kennel in the sky) meant to swim in the canal, or was she classed as a pedestrian?

I have used this website for the last couple of years but not sent them any prices. Have swapped the bookmark on my phone and emailed them today with my last fill price paid. Will make sure I do this from now on.

The obvious option if you want to run your engine after 8.00pm is to move your boat. There’s no problem cruising after 8.00pm, so cruise up to nearest winding point and return to your mooring.

I took this pic today, a great mural on a wall in Skipton.

Can’t believe that hasn’t been fixed properly yet. June 2020, crt had done a temporary fix with a piece of “Armco”. We arrived to find a boat stuck in it trying to open the bottom gate. Finally helped them out and managed to get up the lock.

They are closing a huge number of different waterways in early November. I’m sure far more than usual. If you’re CC’ing, check it carefully.

That's the problem with never knowing what is around the corner ! 😀
And that is what makes boating so enjoyable.

We are moored at Church, just before bridge 113. A short wooden landing stage with rings and lots of goose pooh! Only room for one boat. We will probably leave later today when the rain eases, or tomorrow morning (31st). We are heading East through Blackburn so useful thread for us too!
Happy boating
We passed you there yesterday morning and have never fancied that spot. There’s better mooring 1 1/2 miles further on, just south of bridge 109.
Another vote here for Riley Green on the visitor mooring, just SW of bridge 91a. It was sad to see the remains of the pub still there. If it’s not going to be redeveloped after all these years, it would be better to remove the little that is left.

Until you have been down the Walsall canal you have no idea what rubbish is
I think luck plays a huge part in it. We’ve done the Walsall, Curly Wurly, Dudley canals and most of the BCN a few times over the years and have rarely been down the weed hatch.
Maybe we have followed you a couple of hours behind, so you have cleaned up for us!- 1

This is the start, but the boats were often dangerously close during the swim as they tried to get the best coverage.- 1

Is anyone else watching the Olympic triathlon? They had a false start leaving a large RIB with twin outboards in the middle of the swimmers.
They are just finishing the swim now and it’s been scary to watch as numerous camera carrying RIB’s have been dangerously close to the athletes throughout the swim. There will be plenty of complaints from the teams. -
I can’t imagine throwing it back in, or leaving it on the towpath. It’s a horrible habit.
We collected a 9’ hessian backed shag pile rug on our prop yesterday between the 2 Poolstock Locks. It took me 1 exhausting hour to get it off.
It is free for anyone who wishes to collect it from the CRT bins at the top of the Wigan flight.- 1

Why the unpleasantness? It was I who contacted C&RT and suggested a phased contract. It was I who raised the loss of revenue to the town. It was I who advised them that the hire companies would not be impressed if they closed all the moorings. But am not in the least bothered that they are not working on the moorings.
The fact that they have no commenced work is not my concern, does it really upset you that the mighty C&RT have decided to do something different from the Master Plan?
As the OP on the thread, I like many of us contacted CRT and Market Drayton council with the same suggestion. There’s no need to point score here, we surely all have the same aim.

Update as of 21.07.21 as I am sitting on the CRW Moorings here. BCLM have changed all their locks to combination locks meaning if you moor on the services side you can neither leave or gain access after they lock the gates at night. The swing bridge is pulled open and locked. The path by the tunnel entrance is closed by combination locked gates, as are the gates to the road. If you go to the pub, tough!! You're sleeping on the pavement.
2 girls got trapped there tonight having gone to use the services from their boat on our side. Luckily the boaters here tonight teamed together to swing a boat across the canal and get them back.
The services side moorings are signed as CRW 24hr. I'll be writing to BCLM and CRW to find out what the situation is, as it needs a sign at least. This could ruin someone's holiday, without thinking about the H&S implications.
It’s been like that at the BCLM for years. The towpath side is a standard CRT key, the other is a combination lock, which is not meant for general use. I was given the number a few years ago, but it may have been changed and shouldn’t be posted publicly!!

But a centimetre isn't a accepted unit
I think that’s correct, as the metre is the accepted one, millimetres and centimetres are just fractions of a unit.

Inaccurate reservoir watch figures

Crt has now corrected the figures. It’s not looking good, but better than the original July listing.
