  1. I heard there were 8 reported incidents of wide beams going through Braunston or Blissworth tunnel last year, presumably more went unreported. Not sure what CRT does about if anything.
  2. I was recently advised that when a wide beam is seen on the North Oxford to notify crt via customer services who in turn will contact Matthew Symmonds who will take the appropriate action. I suspect when CRT are not formally notified then the ‘problem’ doesn’t exist.
  3. i recall when the original wharf rings where removed without the knowledge of the then waterways manager one of CRTs suggestions was that boats should just be held by mooring ropes whilst using the facilities!. By then it was too difficult to put all the rings back due to access. I suggested at the time that CRT put rings opposite and create a waiting area this was on the verge of being pursued when CRT discovered it was leased out for fishing and was actually no mooring. As a result rings were put back between the houses and the old office to create a waiting area. Being a pessimist i imagine that residents will get this is valuable facility closed eventually Totally agree with Alan re Bulbourne, ruined a historic site. CRTs property arm overruling any other use. A really dangerous turn off a fast round. Once the residents get settled the pressure will no doubt start to stop mooring opposite.
  4. There was only ever an Elsan and water point there. The new pump out was built at the same time of the houses. The developer CRT would have been well aware that boats would need to moor in front of the houses to access the facilities. CRT then removed the mooring rings that had always been there on the wharf just to make things easier. They must have known this would lead to conflict.
  5. Did the boaters reps vote for this nominated unelected position. Certainly in a conversation with a senior manager within CRT shortly afterwards it did not seem to be a CRTrecomendatiin.
  6. I know quite a few who do this to use the services and do not do the whole flight
  7. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  8. Friendly owner and lovely boat. Saw in the millennium at Cassio wharf. Hope she goes to a caring owner
  9. Aber was delivered on 16 July 1936 nearly a year earlier. fascinating photos
  10. Reads like a self fit out, I would have thought the OPs surveyor would have advised on the general quality of fit outta the very least. Although the OP was aware of the majority of niggling issues before purchasing which should have rung alarm bells perhaps
  11. Exactly, fishermen, for example, are told they have priority on visitor moorings if they are there first outside the boating season. Soon keeping the navigation open outside planned stoppages will no longer be a priority.
  12. Few more settees , new chairs, a bit smarter but same customers, didn’t eat so can’t comment on food.
  13. Well despite recent posts from CRT and various volunteer sites about the end of the boating season it’s been very busy today. Waited at Calcutt for a boat to come down , went up with another boat with two queuing behind us and met another coming down the flight. followed another up Braunston crossing with a boat coming down. Glad to see boaters enjoying a 12 month boating season. only concern was after a couple of pints in the Nelson , was suprised to see the side door TP the patio which I thought was a fire exit locked, perhaps i was wrong.
  14. "One of the things that has most angered local people is the way in which, sadly, the Canal and River Trust did not step up to respond when they could have done," said councillor Simon Greaves. "It was almost like ringing someone up that had no idea where we were, what was happening, or what the reality of the situation was and the urgency of the situation”
  15. Call your insurance company for advice.
  16. Or perhaps the reverse where the EA navigations are given to CRT in return for the dowry being renewed/increased.
  17. Good management ploy, change the criteria so that you no longer can compare like with like.
  18. As the Horton pound is often so shallow , we often moored just below the lock
  19. If I remember correctly the farmer wanted to create a marina in the field which was refused so is not particularly friendly. When the moorings were there I think latterly a fence was erected just in from the moorings to prevent access. Presumably as there had been long term moorings there for many years CRT must have had some rights to enable them to have them. There is no way CRT could fine you for mooring there but it would be interesting to see what CRT say about this assuming you contact them.
  20. Unballasted was fun on a windy day. On the Nene exiting a lock in a storm with very little way on we were blown round completely. Now converted and ballasted its no longer a problem
