  1. i know this area very well, lived around here for 40yrs, i for one would definatly not want to moor there, its a fairly busy road, and as said not the greatest location. do wonder what happened to the boat that was moored there?? it had been there for years and had a nice green crust on it.
  2. thanks, looks like we will have to try and sort another route..
  3. Hi all - anyone know of any updates we were planning on going this way today. I suppose we could risk it and if shut wind at the winding hole marked at the top lock curdworth - we love going up & down the same flight in one day! Is this winding hole ok - it is about 20 years since I have been this way!!. Might also call in at the Fazeley office to see if anyone knows anything there?
  4. Thanks for the replies. As for supplies in Burton on Trent - we stopped on visitor moorings by A38 bridge I think it was bridge number 33e. The cut through the industrial units is directly off the towpath and you can see Morrisons in the distance. If you aim to the right you can't miss it. It was only a 10 minute walk - a good one to mark on the map. As for mooring on Birmingham & Fazeley we will probably go straight through - that will be for tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help
  5. thanks for the replies I think 33c sounds best - Pete will be happy to replenish the cellar! We have noticed that there have been possible breach near Minworth - assuming all is ok we will be heading that way. Any overnight moorings recommended on this stretch from Curdowrth through to Farmers Bridge - it is about 18 years since I have been this way!! thanks
  6. Will be passing through Burton on Trent tomorrow. Is there a supermarket near the canal? Groceries running low & more importantly engineer (pete) running low on scrog! thanks
  7. could,nt of put it better meself. the odd bit i pull off now and then meself, but hey ho its a canal not a motorway, even if a lot of folk treat it like one!!
  8. aha mike, i am after the top door off a squirrel, i have the bottom one. or better still if you have the whole front of the the stove that would be great!! and as said a stove based on a morso, i know there cast been feeding one for the last eight years!!!
  9. not so long back i was felling trees in a woods near the canal, there were a couple of contractors doing the same not far away. then a bloke comes round to me in hi vis saying could you give us a hand. long story short, they had cut a tree and could,nt handle it, had to get my lr to pull it over for them!!! could of ended very badly for the boat moored under the tree!!
  10. cheers chaps, 6mm it is then, thats saved a few pennies!!! going to be a as and when time will allow type job, but will try to get pics up.
  11. ello mike. yes it will be lined with bricks, near enough the same as a morso. and i did get your pics of the baby stove, thats another project, will prob put that in the back of my defender.
  12. as above really. based on a morso squirel, was going to use 8mm mild steel plate (till i found out the cost!) but ive a few sheets of 6mm mill in my unit. just want to know your thoughts on using 6mm, thick enough do you think?? cheers.
  13. We are planning our 3 week boat trip for last 2 weeks in July & 1st week in August. Planned route will possibly include River Soar through to Fazeley and then may include Curdworth & Minworth flights and if time down to Stratford & back. It is a long time since we have gone these routes. Anyone know of any difficulties - boat is old and a bit bent - last time it went down the South Stratford we got stuck on a number of the bottom gates which did not open enough - is still going to be a problem? Cheers
