  1. I didn't know we had met?...although I never wear a flat cap...I prefer a wide brim! Cheers Gareth
  2. A quick run out today proved it affected my JP2 as well...and it takes a fair blade full to make that grunt...but it was just leaves....drop into neutral...Coast for a bit and then all is well! Cheers Gareth
  3. It's beginging to sound like it may be the AC changeover "switch" on the combi....that's an internal switch in the combi I'm afraid. Have you checked the connections on the combi?...unscrew the front panel and check the terminals there...please be careful tho! Cheers Gareth
  4. Post 7 and we are all in agreement......it won't last! Cheers Gareth
  5. At this time of year leaves around the prop can cause some very strange symptoms....when you stop they drop away....might not be the answer but worth a thought. Cheers Gareth
  6. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  7. Can you trace the cable from the genny just to double check there aren't any hidden breakers? Is there a change over switch for the shore line? Do you have a multimeter to check voltages? Worth checking all the connections in the cable as well....it's just possible a voltage spike has fried a mcb or rcd. If you don't have a meter or don't fancy poking about with one you can get "voltage sticks" which will glow a neon without making a contact. Very useful for tracing faults. Cheers Gareth
  8. If you disconnect pin 8 on the scart lead you will disable the auto swtiching....Google will provide you with a pin diagram...that's always supposing that you can get inside the scart plug....some you can....some you cant! It doesn't matter what end you disconnect. Cheers Gareth
  9. Most of the people I spoke to were planning on CC (M)ing it around London but with no idea about what that might involve. Cheers Gareth
  10. Have you checked for any rouge breakers between the ac light and the ring main. If you have a meter carefully measure the voltage at the terminals along the cable. Do remember that 240v ac isn't very pleasant if it finds flesh! Also is there a selector switch for a landline or inverter that might have got knocked? Cheers Gareth Edited to add bits.
  11. Well I didn't know london had so many available fully resi moorings for all the new boaters I spoke to over the summer who had brought a boat from the Midlands northwards and were taking it to London to live on. Sadly in many of these cases they seemed to have very little idea about what living aboard might entail...from how to operate a lock to how to drill a hole in steel...there is only so much you can hope to explain as you are sharing a lock or mooring for the night. Whilst the situation in London might not be as bad as I think (however judging from what I have seen when walking along the towpaths in the east of the city I doubt it) I can't help but think that some of the newbies must be having a pretty torrid time of it. Cheers Gareth
  12. Well let's wait for the OP to come back and give us more info then..... It seems to me that the only people who could be upset by my post might be others who find my remarks a bit close to home....given the amount of posts on here about bridge hopping in London I don't think I'm alone in my views.
  13. I will stand to be corrected by the OP.....but I also stand by what I say....I really don't see the point of a boat that never moves...liveaboard or not.... Cheers Gareth
  14. Surely part of the joy of living on a boat is the ability to move it from place to place? Even if due to other commitments or stoppages you should be able to move it into central london from somewhere around the M25? Or is this yet another boat that's going to be nailed to a bit of towpath and never move? Cheers Gareth
  15. I think you need to look at "professional" outlets...not the DIY sheds.....I'm sure I saw some proper nitromors in such a place....it's bit like creosote....it's still available if you know where to look. Oh and I agree the EU meddle in far too many things...if UKIP said they would rescind such crap I'm sure they would become even more popular! Cheers Gareth
  16. I have the older style comfort boiler which is heavier on gas than the new one, I have been saying for years that it's not just the cost of the fuel...the fact that it needs minimal electricity and just an annual service means the overall cost is less than most diesel heaters. I too have a solid fuel stove for main space heating but use the Alde for hot water when we are out cruising and did use it during the very cold winters a few years ago to warm the boat in the morning. One thing to bear in mind with the new model is that you will need a stainless calorifier and no copper pipes. Cheers Gareth
  17. Yarwoods basin!....say hi to mike from me! Cheers Gareth
  18. I too would recommend Dave Moore….as others have said its worth it for all the nice things people say about it! Cheers Gareth
  19. Some of us who use self pump outs can do so without leaving any trace....indeed several times over the summer we left the sanitary stations cleaner than when we had started...really how hard is it for people to flush the sluice after using it???? Cheers Gareth
  20. For once it's a shame I'm not closer to London....I would happily do all that....can't you move the museum to somewhere sensible like the Midlands?? Cheers Gareth
  21. Whilst I would be happy for such a discussion this topic isn't the place! I was pointing out that neon type (happy now?) lamps do fail. And also that the green type have less of a lifespan than other colours. This is important when they are used as a safe state indicator and therefore on all the time. It's also why I like to fit an "incorrect polarity" indicator as well as it gives a back up. Cheers Gareth PS..you lead a sheltered life if you class being called a pedant as an insult!
  22. Stop being such a pedant! The are still called neons but may use a different gas hence the different life spans before failure.... My point was they can and do fail. Sometimes sooner than you might think. Cheers Gareth
  23. You can get red, green & Amber neons! Have a look in RS or Farnell....I use 240v LED's for warnings now...more expensive but longer life. Cheers Gareth
  24. Neons have a finite life which is surprisingly short especially compared to LED's. For some reason green ones have the shortest life span as I recall! However get someone who knows what they are doing...it's really not hard to kill yourself with 240v. Cheers Gareth
  25. I would plan to stop at Torksey if time allows....there are good moorings and pubs etc. I would monitor channel 16 and 74 if your set allows it. Is it a big tide tomorrow? That will effect how much water to have to punch at the end..?.although I doubt if there is much flow coming down the Trent at the moment. Cheers Gareth
