Hi Cereal tiller,by chance this was exactly the job I was in the middle of doing. Yesterday I'd tried to split the steering arm, where it reaches over the top of the outboard, without any success due to the grub screws in the cotter pins being corroded. Opening up the nylon pivot was so easy (with a very large blade flat screwdriver). The two large cotter pins were absolute pigs to get out (i know they have not been touched for at least 18 years). Finally I heated them up with a blow torch-guarding the bellows with a plumbers mat-it took over two hours of heating and soaking with WD 40 before I made them shift, I think it's important to emphasise that the grub screws on the cotter pins must be removed with exactly the right size allen key because if you were to mess them up you would have to drill them out and then re-tap the hole and find an oversize grub screw to refit. Amazing you posted your advice just as I was doing it MANY THANKS TEZ
