  1. Yes great pictures. I like the proper old fashioned looking lighthouse at trent falls
  2. Hi Steve. Yes the charts on the boating association link you posted are what I meant. Although they're not really charts like Alan just posted. They have all the information you will need. Contact numbers, vhf radio channels, routes to take on the river with clear pictures, hazards, predicted cruising times etc.
  3. I would recommend getting the Boating Association publication for cruising the tidal Ouse before making this trip if you don't already have it.
  4. Navigation to Tadcaster. I looked at this. The river Wharfe at a village called Ulleskelf is very shallow at normal level.
  5. The thing I learned from experience about going down to Selby from Naburn is to when approaching the last bend and going under the bridges is to leave a good distance from any boats in front and keep the power ramped a up bit otherwise the river can try and wash the boat off course. That's one place where you don't want the engine to stop
  6. It would be the chainless drive system that would cause future problems I think. Not sure how it works but surely would wear out. I need to replace the chain every year on the single speed I commute on.
  7. It is sad that anything which involves trust seems to fail in this country. Picked up a few of these that had been kicked or knocked over when visiting family around Oxford in the past. I wouldn't mind owning one legitimately though. They look well made.
  8. It looks to me like a handful of traders have bulk bought the stock and are selling them on when reading listings. I could be wrong
  9. Just noticed that there are a number of Mobikes for sale on ebay for what seems good money for a 'maintenance free' bike. Thought worth mentioning as maybe a good option to be locked outside on a boat in all weather. Anyone ridden one?
  10. Without sleeving the bolts going through the aluminium box I think it will tend to crush when you tighten them. I would use angle myself
  11. Thanks no. I've had an engine which I've broken down for spares which had big end gone and damaged crank. Water damage seems to be common with these when they've been stood a while. I've got four barrels with rust damage in corner of container.
  12. Great. Are you fitting that one in your boat ? I see there is another stashed in the corner.
  13. Really sad to hear that TD and his dog are now homeless. What sort of organisation would seize someone's home in this current climate and coming into winter. Is this how we treat pensioners in England now. Never met him but has given valuable advice to me about the trent and also my engine problems in the past.
  14. I'm moored on an EA river and run on one of these for CRT waters. I don't get a permanent number it changes each year. This last year I wrote the reference number on the boat in permanent marker. Twice on the same trip I was checked out by CRT. Once near Skipton and a week later at Selby. Both times the CRT inspector couldn't identify the boat from the number. Both times the boat was photo'd. The first inspector seemed to be able to tie the boat to my licence with my email and cycled off happy. The second inspector at Selby although pleasant enough recorded my boat as an 'unidentified vessel' or something similar. Apparently Skipton and Selby areas are completely separate areas for CRT so there was no record of the boat having been already checked out.
  15. We travelled up and down the five rise on route to Skipton earlier this month. The gates do leak bad. In a group of three boats and I was close to them. I want to modify / seal the back end of my boat better to stop / reduce water being able to collect in there again in a similar situation in future.
  16. Hi. With the alternator issue, I have a simple 12v system with a lucas alternator and my battery charging light flickers when the battery is fully charged after a few days cruising , it has since installed. The Hurth to PRM swap might not be straight forward. I looked into it. I have a Hurth HBW 250 and couldn't find a PRM equivalent with as much of a drop between the input and output shafts.
  17. Easedale has just been shortened at Knottingly and we saw 'Little shuva' dredging near Leeds a few weeks ago, we were told for when the barges start work.
  18. Thanks Derek. Much appreciated. Very kind of you to take the time to do this.
  19. Hi Derick. I've been looking out for a HDW manual for 8-9 years now whilst running / owning my engine with no luck. I do have figures for head nut torque, bump clearance and valve clearances if you need these. I would like to know a bit more about setting up / balancing the injection system myself as I think one of my cylinders is working slightly harder ( exhaust is slightly hotter to touch on one side ).
  20. I was just about to try and post a link to these, they have been relisted. Looks like a good deal to me if CV engines float your boat. Ha. I already have enough. What might be of more interest to the forum is that the seller states he has numerous other engines for sale.
  21. My Hurth HBW 10 gearbox failed in exactly the same way. I couldn't change it for a PRM because i need more of a drop between the input and output than the PRM equivalent provides. Fortunately for me a good HBW 250 which has the same dimensions and very similar mounting hole centres came up on this site.
  22. While we were there a narrowboat got jammed in one of the three locks that lead up to Shire Oaks marina. Some of the 'old hands' at the marina offered their expertise to get the boat through but the owner decided against it.
  23. Recently i have tried to remember when leaving the boat to isolate the diesel supply at the tank outlet. Been leaving a reminder on engine to turn it back on again.
  24. We had a great holiday on the Chesterfield last year. I think the highlights for me were the pubs in Retford, club house at West Stockwith and the pretty flight of locks up to Norwood tunnel, some of them double and triple. First time i had experienced a narrow canal and a tunnel ( although very short ). Sadly even last year two of the canal side pubs in the Nicholsons guide had closed down.
