  3. The conning tower is pretty handy for erm, fishing rods and stuff.
  4. Not sure it will ever count as a peaceful escape, it's going to be very urban. Which is sometimes what you need. I am treating it mostly as somewhere handy for the winter. It's a little better than that. There are gates now at least. The locals have figured out they can just shimmy along the side to get round them though. Yes, but it was knackered.

  6. They have water again now? Have a berth there but am out and about in Cheshire at the moment. Was there 2 weeks before getting an itchy tiller arm. It's cheap and the people there seem a good bunch. Being the wrong side of the Rochdale 9 for diesel and pumpout is a bit of a pain if you want to move about. Lock 84 is an absolute swine right now, water pissing through the bottom gate so it's not really a casual trip back. Probably to fool recently relocated BBC staff that Ancoats is like Islington.
  7. My penis extension is about 57'. Though according to many women it should probably be a widebeam.
  8. His email is bouncing. Guess I'll use that telephone thing. Thanks for the link
  9. Is there anywhere closer than warrington / ashton? Or a regular supply boat?
  10. The Internet Engineering Task Force has a *very serious proposal* for doing the internets via Avian Carrier. They probably prototyped with pigeons but Canada geese might be suitable.
  11. There's also a new marina in ancoats (Manchester city centre) run by urban splash. Very reasonable at £1500 a year residential. It's a bit of a building site right now though
  12. Yes, we went though yesterday. Some chap is missing, but draining the pounds turned up nothing but old bikes.
  13. The well deck of our boat is ballasted with 50cm railway track offcuts, so they can be moved from one side to the other for trim. However I'm pretty sure the price has gone up to £scary in the last few years.
  14. We are intending to use this as our home marina. The water park itself is pretty nice, although its surrounded by a building site Still, it's cheap and a very convenient home base for people a fair (probably about 40 bloody years) way from retirement. Also it's about 5 minutes walk from Port Street beer house, which serves the best beer in the city. 6-8 UK real ales, serious Belgian stuff on draught and 8 or so US microbrews. Also 100+ bottles
  15. That looks like a serious bit of kit, ta. Boat already has an external antenna, unsure if its 'proper'.
  16. Anyone had any experience of the Vololink? They sound like a good bit of kit on paper, RJ11 socket for a real phone handset, proper external antenna connection and the higher end models go up to 46 Mb/s. I need a reasonably solid internet connection for my job and hanging a mifi out of a porthole on a stick doesn't seem like a reliable option.
  17. Nets sound like a good solution, our boat has pretty high gunnels not sure he could make the button fender. Thankfully, he cowered under the dinette in shame rather than making a beeline for the bedding. 'Stealth' in a people staring at it kind of way. I fell in love as soon as I went on board, guess I must have attention seeking instincts
  18. And the idiot cat jumps off the bow and straight through the ice. He managed to swim the 57 feet to the back of the boat pretty rapidly to get pulled out. In fact it almost looked like he was levitating. While he is acquiring a basic understanding of practical physics and chemistry we figured it would be a good idea to buy some sort of kitteh restraint device. Also thinking of changing our side fenders to rope ones that are closer to the water. How does everyone else cope during the ..learning phase?
  19. Ah, crap twitpic has timed links. A repost. Baby jesus chose a really good time to freeze the canals, gave notice on our house so have to be out and onboard by the end of the month and its 130 miles away
  20. This looks like it might fit the bill. 12 volts, 0.1W. Camera and multiple sensor inputs. I have been looking for something similar myself. I suspect it may take quite a few pictures of my cat though.

  22. It's a very nice bit of work that mate. Shame the BW stoppages list doesn't come in a machine readable format. If you moved it to github it might make it easier for potential contributors. Seems like there's quite a few nerds on the cut

  24. We are about to complete on this big black lump. Should be starting the move up to Manchester in a couple of weeks.
